An explorer's adage says to "take only photos, leave only footprints."
But it seems the footprints of NASA's Apollo astronauts had unintended consequences for the surface of the moon after they landed there nearly 50 years ago.
Newly discovered temperature data from the 1970s moon landings, released in the Journal of Geophysical Research in April, reveals that NASA astronauts probably warmed up the moon's surface temperature by as much as 6 degrees Fahrenheit by walking around and poking into the lunar surface.
The data comes from so-called heat-flow experiments that were installed on the moon in 1971 and 1972 during the Apollo 15 and Apollo 17 missions. For the experiments, astronauts on each mission drilled two holes into the surface of the moon at depths ranging from 3.2 feet to 7.5 feet deep. The astronauts inserted fiberglass tubes into the holes and plopped platinum thermometers inside to read the temperatures at varying depths below the moon's surface. Those probes beamed the temperature data to Earth in near real time.

Very good point!
Anthropomorphic Lunar Warming has been shown to be caused by supporting President Trump.
Sometimes I wonder, are article-writers just seeing how preposterous they can make their text, just to see if anyone buys into it?
Kinda a journalista version of "Hold my beer and watch this!"
Thanks neverevergiveup. This is just some kind of urinalist adaptation of DNC talking points.

Someone left the moon rover idling?
I know what the article says - unless the astronauts blasted the area to lay the probes with strip mining there cant have been that much displacement of black thermal dust because it wouldve settled back. If the point was that the hike topsoil had different thermal properties than the deeper probes - well DUH - you still have the same problem on earth and its not a discovery worthy of a scientific paper. (Hey Clark, I drilled into your limestone and replaced it with mud - dunno why Im gettin weird temperature readings. Must be that global warmin)
Hey HEY - dont mock radiation madness pal!
That is why the astronauts were preceded with several Ranger and Surveyor missions. The science of getting to the moon was accomplished over significant span of time with a lot of experimental hardware.
This has to be a joke.
There's mysterious heating of the moon at the same time there's man made global warming on earth and the moon warming is just an error?
Here's my theory.
The sun has been putting out more energy heating both the moon and the earth.
Increasing levels of CO2 in the atmosphere of the earth have been slowing the dramatic rise in temperature on earth as compared to the moon.
What does Sheila Jackson Lee think about this?
The first thing any real scientist learns is that correlation is not causation.
The little-known fact is, the Apollo astronauts took two SUVs to the Moon with them, and that’s what is causing the “lunar warming”.
They’ve been “idling” ever since, but, as soon as they run out of gas, the Moon will cool back to its normal temperature.
Rumor has it that they left $1 million in “carbon credit certificates” on the back seat of the SUVs too offset the damages.
Good theory of yours. But the greenies will insist that mankind's burning of fossil fuels is heating up the Sun as well. They won't listen to you...
BS. the tiny area of the moon they walked on is in no way able to heat the entire moon by any fraction of 1 degree. 6 is just ridiculous.
someone left the stove on
It’s because the moon is made of mozzarella and not cheddar cheese. Also, they found a few trees and Dr Mann cherry-picked the tree ring data to make a hockey stick.
I’m pretty sure this means moon dust is now a protected species.
Freegards
But wait a minute, aren’t they saying that we never went to the moon and it was all a sham? So how did all that instrumentation get there (aside from an unmanned probe)?
And if moon rocks are just studio props then put em’ up for sale, love to have one. And a space suit. Gotta have a suit.
AND..I would like one of our telescopes here on Earth to focus on every landing site and take volumes of photos so everyone will know for a fact we DID have manned missions to the Moon.
I believe it happened. God allowed this so that mankind could witness Creation as never before, by viewing the heavens (space) with all its majesty and the Earth as how beautiful and tiny and precious—and no matter how far scientists look into space, there is no planet able to sustain that delicate balance for life to exist, and nowhere else does mankind exist.
Created by the Lord God in His Image, because “in Him we move, and live, and have our being.”
Everything that exists, whether seen or unseen, is held together by God, or it would have no existence. The Almighty created atoms, and He is that Power that holds all together.
I know that my response started out about the Moon, but Praise the Lord, how AWESOME HE is!!!
I love You Jesus!!!
Saves another ice age.
