I remember when nice restaurants have ladies menus without prices. It seemed odd, but I understood why. (I usually would look for chicken because it was most likely to be reasonable.)

I have only read about it, but I understand the historical context in which the custom arose.

The restaurant in this case was probably going for a nostalgia factor to complement their view.

So now it’s the transgender menu for all? /s

$100 fine for different men/women’s menus, $60k fine for no transgender menu?

This astute observer has noticed that it’s the male of the species who pays in restaurants the vast majority of the times.

This restaurant was only acknowledging reality.

I’ve had that happen once or twice. I just ask for a different menu, I don’t take them to court.

Never saw it myself, but Mom told me that practice was common in upscale restaurants back in the day. I’m surprised any place today would have it, but I applaud them for their nostalgia. I am not surprised that some triggered snowflake would raise a fuss about it and have the policy changed. If some civil servant deemed I would pay $62000 as a result of giving a woman a menu without prices on it, I’d be looking up his address.

women should have “access to the same list of dishes with prices included.”

If that was the logic behind the decision then this guy should have gotten a better lawyer. Two simple questions would negate that argument: if a woman asked for a menu with prices would she be given one? What was the policy if two women ere dining?

There’s a new BBQ restaurant near me that has an online menu without prices........The first time I went to their website I was going to order a take out but when I saw it had no prices, I decided against it.

The article skips over something important:

Which menus were the trans-people given?

Did the proffered menus match their preferred pronouns?

This is a private business and should be allowed to provide whatever menu they darn well please to their customers. If the customers don’t like it they are free to patronize elsewhere.

None of the government’s business.

Like ordering groceries online from Publix: if you’re the kind of people who does that, you don’t care what it costs.

I’m thinking the men’s menu had appetizers of raw oysters and saltpeter salad.

Women’s appetizers included the rohypnol shrimp, followed by the GBH minestrone.

My opinion is if they have a menu without prices is they are ashamed of their prices.

It will soon be illegal for a man to show more romantic interest in women than in men.

It is already politically incorrect.

Best ‘view’ restaurant I’ve ever enjoyed was in Paamul, Mexico. We were driving south from Cancun headed for Belize when my brother saw a huge wooden sign that said cerveza with a huge arrow pointing to a one lane road through the jungle. He about flipped the jeep taking the left turn but after driving through the jungle for awhile we came out on a crystalline white beach. There sat an open air restaurant with a palapa. No one in it but us and they had what amounted to $1 tacos and buckets of beer. We went to Cancun about 4 times and would return to Paamul over and over.

Such menus used to be common practice. This is in the days when it was the norm for a man to pay for his female companion’s meal. The theory was she should feel free not to worry about cost and just enjoy her dinner.

Now you no more are likely to see these than you are the sign “jackets and ties required”. Oh and for those gentlemen who forgot such - usually one could be obtained from the
maitre d’.

“These small things may seem harmless,” agency official Liliana Cerrón said on Monday. “But at the end of the day they are the basis of a chauvinistic construct reinforcing differences between men and women.”

Gosh she must be fun at parties.
