He should have been a bit more circumspect and deniable about what he did, though. Off the top of my head I can think of five or six ways to take that balloon down that would have looked like accidents and likely not landed him in jail.

You don’t have to fight stupid by being stupid.

Alternately, one could first try using the bureaucracy against them. Want to bet they didn’t have all their proper permits in order? Types like that often do not. So much fun to shut them down by simply using their lack of paperwork against them.

StumbleBummer, why don't you go after this guy instead of right wingers? Is it the obvious reason?

He's got some really odd notion that if someone posts a link on freerepublic, it costs freerepublic money. I've been waiting since, well, forever, for him to explain how that works.

What he did shouldn’t be a felony. Disorderly conduct and vandalism maybe but no way should it be that.

It depends on the cash value of the property destroyed. I think under $500 is a misdemeanor or maybe $1,000. I know that in TN $1,000 is the line between misdemeanor theft and felony theft.

There are more reports of a deflated balloon by the MSM then the deliberate cover-up of the most notorious pedophile / blackmail / kidnapping ring in US history...

and the deliberate killing of the Epstein Pedo Island story (it didn’t kill itself)

I don’t support him. That’s the kind of stuff that Antifa pulls. Destruction of personal property to shut down a protest. Sorry, but since I criticize Antifa for those stunts, I can’t stay silent when one of ours pulls the same kind of stunt. Apart from doing the right thing, the other side will now pull up this one example, over and over, whenever we criticize them for violence to shut down our protests.............

Had they lost, the Sons of Liberty would have been hung as arsonists, not to mention tea thieves and destroyers of the environment and ecosystem of Boston Harbor.

Those criticizing him would be the kind who criticized the Tea Party for throwing tea into the Boston Harbour back in the day.

I agree, it was a dumb thing to do. Even though I think the charges are to much for what he did, he did break the law and destroy property.

I agree BUT how can these snowflakes tear up private property on college “campi” like that dumbarse at Michigan did several days when he tore up signs and threw away cookies??? Is that not the same?

Would you spend a buck or two for that Rope-Jumper's defense or is it all black and white, cut and dried, i.e., defacing property is defacing property.

I wouldn't spend a cent for it. If it's principled civil disobedience, one has to accept the penalty. I can think of many instances where I've violated some petty law on the grounds of its stupidity, but never once did I think that if I were caught I'd be able to get off scot-free, or that I'd ask others to pay for my defense.

What good does it do to obey the law when the law is the enemy against real Americans?

The certainty that if someone doesn't obey the law, there will be no law. There will be anarchy, and people will begin aligning themselves with strong men who can protect them from the depredations of others. Which is how the feudal era began following the breakup of the Roman Empire.

Maybe you like that sort of thing, and more power to you; you're entitled to your opinion. I take a different tack.

Yes it is the same idea.

No it is not the same physically. In one there are many people doing many small offences.
In the other there is one man doing one large offence.

If everything were equal the cops would have halled in ever one of the offenders who did some damage.
