The NFL believes it has a problem with having too few minority coaches among its ranks. So, they’ve decided to solve this problem by ordering each team to hire a “diverse person” to their offensive coaching staff.
The league informed teams of the new requirement in a memo sent Monday afternoon.
“All NFL teams will be required to have a “diverse person (female or a member of an ethnic or racial minority)” on staff as an offensive assistant in 2022,” Dallas Morning News reporter Michael Gehlken wrote. “This position will be funded, in part, by a stipend from league office. Rule designed to improve diversity of HC pipeline.”
The move comes as former Dolphins head coach Brian Flores pursues a case against the NFL for racism in their hiring practices. Flores brought the suit after he claimed the New York Giants interviewed him with no intention of hiring him as they had already decided to hire former Bills coach Brian Daboll to be the head coach.
The NFL has had the Rooney Rule in place for nearly twenty years. A regulation requiring teams to interview at least two minority candidates for a coaching position and at least one minority candidate for front-office positions. Women are also included under the Rooney Rule.
Up until recently, there were several minority head coaches in the league. However, after a slew of firings at the end of the 2021 season, Pittsburgh’s Mike Tomlin was the only minority coach left in the league.
With only two minority coaches hired in the latest hiring cycle, the league seems to have shifted from merely requiring interviews to actually mandating hires.

Time for some fake DNA genetics testings. Offensive coaches can post that they have, say 5% Hindu or Native American blood so they qualify. Even the NAZIs weren’t this focused on genetics.
Meaning: You are the wrong color. You will not be hired.
Another reason not to watch the NFL.
Does “diverse” include any of these?
1. No tats
2. Purple hair
3. 4 ft 6 inches tall
4. Conservative beliefs
5. Inability to get along with and lead people
6. Zero knowledge of football
What is this NFL I keep hearing about, interrupting all the other things I’m involved with?
Why doesn’t the NFL just assign coaches where they want them???
How does the NFL plan to define “female”? Given that this is so confusing that even brilliant legal minds such as Supreme Court Justices can’t figure that out, how will the NFL be able to hire “females”?
The Caucasianish Question is still in the problem solving stage. However, great strides have been made with some more loose ends to tie up.
If it wasn’t for Brady coming back, I wouldn’t watch the NFL.
Now I have another reason to stop.
“Welcome aboard, De’shawn-d’andre — you be our new Diverse Person hire.”
How would that make you feel?
So this Rooney Rule idea, is morphing from interviewing candidates and ensuring certain people are in the mix, to requiring that certain jobs will be filled by a minority or even a woman nowadays. Is that what is happening, and if so, why do the NFL owners feel compelled to do this?
Free Speech is now: “Here are the things you HAVE to say, and if you fail to speak as expected, you will be in trouble.”
Civil Rights are now: “Hire people by their skin color. Also sexual orientation can be considered. Don’t hire people on merit — we might end up with the wrong sort of people on staff. Just hire the “right” people and we’ll be OK.”
How is this legal?

Because you know “diverse persons” cannot achieve on their own. They have no merit by themselves. /sarc
This is actually racism of the highest order by the NFL because they apparently believe the above.
What ever happened to meritocracy?
PS Have a Hispanic friend who has dealt with blowback from this type of thing all his professional career. He speaks 7 language, 4 completely fluently with no accent. Has a JD (is a licensed attorney) and a CPA. Best tax lawyer ever. But some people think he achieved success because of “diversity” bias. Really ticks him off.
PPS He’s one of us — hardcore Constitutional conservative. Frankly he makes me look like a liberal, which is not exactly easy...
I guess the acronym for the NFL takes on new meaning.
