Clinton Should Focus on Others, Not Himself

Pity poor Bill Clinton. While the rest of the country is worried about the war on terrorism, he's agonizing over -- surprise! -- his own legacy.

Seems that Clinton gathered a bunch of former aides and Cabinet secretaries to his New York office last week out of concern that his accomplishments as president have slipped from memory. They agreed to organize a corps of supporters to talk up his achievements and keep his profile from disappearing.

``We have to remind people of what we did on the economy, what we did with the crime bill, what we did with terrorism,'' one Clinton adviser told the New York Times. ``They're trying to pin the bin Laden thing on us.''

It's not unreasonable to muster one pang of sympathy -- just one -- for the ex-president. Even in the best of Clinton days (before the Lewinsky escapade), his strengths -- such as balancing the budget to help point the economy upward -- went unrecognized by his frothing opponents.

But Clinton's time as president is over. His latest scheme showcases perhaps Clinton's fatal flaw -- his boundless, blinding love of himself.

Better he should take a cue from the last Southern Democratic president, Jimmy Carter. In the two decades since he left office, Carter established a foundation in Atlanta promoting peace and democracy worldwide. If he isn't building houses for Habitat for Humanity, he's monitoring elections in Guyana or Indonesia.

Clinton could do the same, devoting himself to one of the issues he embraced during his presidency -- perhaps racial reconciliation or national service. Aside from improving the world, Carter's post-presidential service has transformed his image from failed president to wise elder statesman. If Clinton looked beyond himself for a change, he might be able to do the same.

>>You must be the only person in the world who hasn't seen anything negative printed about Clinton since he left office.<<

Alas, you miscalculate, O enlightened one. MUCH truth has been said about the Lying-and-Perjuring-Pervert-In-Chief.

I am laughing at you, personally, for being so dimwitted as to not realize the truth, and instead, to grasp at lies.

I honestly thought that all but the most blithering of idiots dismissed Bill Clinton for the lowlife, dishonest loser he is LONG ago.

Turns out, I was right.

As far as I am concerned, the Clintons have only two redeeming qualities; 1) they are not immortal and, 2) they don't live near me.

Sadly,he lives close to my New York friends. There was a poster here who actually lived in Chappequa;he used to "Report from Chappequa".I dont what happened to him.But I always wanted to ask him,but never did,When the toon jogged down to the Dunkin Donuts in town, did he pay for the coffee? He never did at the Mcdonalds he used to jog to as president, that fell to the junior USSS agent, fresh from Beltsville.

Did you REALLY read the entire list? I don't think anyone is upset that he won twice, it's what he did with the job once he got it. Bill Clinton is the only person who took the Oath of Office who was not grateful for the sacred office he was handed by the people. Read his first inaugural speech. Everything is "I".

Clinton wanted us to think about tomorrow, while he was having a girl his daughter's age perform a sex act on his bent member. Quite a visual don't you think?

You are correct that his enemies have a right to speak out. However I was responding to the article that suggested that Clinton should not speak out. Once somebody is attacked either in print or the electronic media they have a right to respond. If someone criticized you I think you would have a right to respond. If someone attacks Bush he has a right to respond. However, the author of the article is damning Clinton for responding to the various diatribes against him. Frankly I think the country has far better things to do than dwell on the sins of Clinton. His eight years are over. All of this was debated ad nauseum during the impeachment debate and he was found guilty of getting blow jobs beyond a reasonable doubt. My point is that it is time to move on to other things. I would prefer that both Clinton and his critics change the subject.

You forgot his most damnable offense. The one that really irks conservatives. The only one that matters to Republicans. He WON TWO ELECTIONS. Truth be told that is the real reason he is so hated.

No, it's what he did before and after he won two elections.

Clinton is a sociopath, rapist, liar. Real truth be told, that is why he is so hated.

I'll tell you what. You give three thousand people their lives back, restore those obliterated buildings, four planes, and God knows how many more lives that were affected by this....You or Bubba manage all that, and I'll let it drop.

Fair enough?

Speak for yourself - I was upset that he was elected in 92, and I posted it above.

I thought CHARACTER was important in 92 - no matter how much the press tried to convince us otherwise. I thought a draft-dodger would be a disaster for our military. I thought a then well-known womanizer would be a disaster for the feminist movement (they are now deservedly ridiculed). I didn't even care about the "I didn't inhale" story. This man was horrible in 92 and the media blind-sided the American people. I, for one, will never forgive that breech of trust from the once respected trust I had in the media.

Clinton is a boy trying to live in a man's world. Nobody notices when there's no trouble afoot; but as soon as danger begins to loom large his inadequacies take on mythic proportions. I want him to continue as he has been; in hierarchical parlance..."as you are...sw"! I want him to convene PR sessions in perpetuity. If he continues along this path he will make millions of constituents dreams come true.

Note to SW: keep on keepin' on Slick, you're a credit to your female gender! Nice b-cup you got going on there by the way; very manly and attractive.

P.S. Was that cellulite I noticed on the back of your legs in your latest mulligan photo op?

Well, just think if he'd only get six months for each offense INCLUDING accessory to murder,
he'd be put away for the rest of his natural life.

You assume that simply because someone says something bad about someone you like they must be telling the truth. You will find that Clinton's enemies are every bit as dishonest as he his. Do you think that Clinton's detractors spent all that effort on impeachment because they cared about Monica's virtue? Did you Clinton's enemies hate him because of his moral deficit?

Clinton's enemies hate him because he represents political interests that is contrary to theirs. It is just that simple. Republicans want you to hate Clinton because hate is a manipulator it makes you less critical of their people. Democrats want you to hate Bush for the same reason. It is when you understand this you will find yourself getting less emotionalized about these people.

Please pardon my response to your above #12 statement.

But please, Nightstalker, the "Toon" was a rapist, traitor and a national security risk.

If you doubt this as fact, just wait until the reality slaps you in the face...it'll be out there in about 5 years. Trust me.

Relax. If liberals had any principles they would hate Clinton more than conservatives do.

Imagine if someone had told you back in 1992 that during the next eight years you would see the following: 1.) the top capital gains tax rate would be reduced from 28% to 20%, a tax cut that benefits "the rich"; 2.) cigarette, gasoline, and payroll taxes, which disproportionately affect "the poor," would be higher; 3.) welfare as a Federal entitlement would cease to exist; 4.) the number of Americans with no health insurance would rise from 35 million to 40 million; 5.) the President would salute Chinese troops in Tiananmen Square in an attempt to "coddle Chinese dictators"; 6.) the President would authorize the release of classified military information to Red China in exchange for campaign contributions; and 7.) the President would face a civil lawsuit and a subsequent Federal criminal investigation for an incident involving sexual harassment of a subordinate.

I'm willing to bet you that 95% of people who described themselves as "liberals" in 1992 would have looked at those things and said to themselves: "Sh!t, that means there's going to be a Republican in the White House at until 2000 at least!"

This is actually fun. Let's keep adding to that list:

8.) The U.S. military would discharge more homosexuals from 1993-2000 than it had in any other eight-year period in history.

I was responding to someone who seems to think that the only reason we dislike Clinton is because he won twice.
I was sick to my stomach for two weeks when he was first elected. By Clinton's actions we were proved correct in our original assumption.

Don't blame me for the events of 9/11. I am not responsible for the deaths of 9/11. The events of 9/11 were cause by terrorists that I had nothing to do with. While you might want to blame the tragedy on anybody you disagree with such a belief is ludicrous and false. The Jerry Falwells and other hate merchants who wish to blame others and exploit this tragedy to divide America to a disservice to those who died.
