USO Canteen FReeper Style ~ Mission Statement 101 ~ April 16, 2003
68-69TonkinGulfYatchClub and FRiends of the Canteen

Posted on 04/15/2003 11:35:36 PM PDT by 68-69TonkinGulfYachtClub

Seems like in the past few days the mission of the Canteen has been forgotten.

USO CANTEEN FREEPER STYLE MISSION STATEMENT
Showing support and boosting the morale of
our military and our allies military
and the family members of the above.
Honoring those who have served before.

The most blatant offense of the above statement was at the end of a thread the other day that had to be deleted.
An active duty FReeper had come in to tell us the latest about his wife and soon to be baby.
When he said he liked a certain thread he was insulted by someone
who had spent most of the day on a thread they said they did not like.
Who he was or who the person who insulted him are not important now.
Many watched the drama unfold before the thread was pulled.
AT THE SAME TIME another Canteen thread (older one) was attacked
by an anti-Bush, anti-military type FReeper.
Luckily Admin deleted that post and banned that FReeper.
Understand that there are those who come to the Canteen with the sole purpose
of starting trouble to get FReepers to argue with each other.
Their purpose is to discredit the Canteen mainly because it is
VERY supportive of the Commander-in-Chief and the military.
These are the same type of people who you see in the anti-war protests.
Mark my words, when the 2004 elections start expect more attacks on the Canteen.
Even though the Canteen is non-political it represents a threat to some.
Please use your head and do not engage those
who just stop in the Canteen to disrupt from the Canteen Mission.

If the Canteen is "not for you" please move onto another thread.

If you ever not sure what is"right" to post, just read the Mission Purpose
then it will become quite clear if your post belongs here.

Remember 1000's of military read the thread(s) each week.
That is the sole reason why we are here each day.

Your right about 2004 Tonk.

Many lurkers and newbee's may not know about or understand the frequent disrupter posts that we get during election cycles.

Briefly put, the enemy (opposing socialist forces), view FR as a prime target and do what they can to disrupt before a moderator gets clued in and the account is banned.

The enemy, I am sure, gets a good laugh at our expense and decorum.

We do the best we can to control the behavior but it is a free and open forum and it is impossible to screen out the trash until they show themselves for what they are.

The best way to deal with them is not to reply, but to ping the Admin Moderator to the poster and the post number via the abuse button. It usually takes a few minutes to make the decision but that is done to avoid banning someone who made a honest mistake or failed to make themselves clear by not showing a sarcasm tag, etc.

I hope they will not hit us again, but I know they will and the Mod's will be doing the best they can.

Great job on the Canteen Y'all!

Hang in there, Tonk. I just stopped by to wish you the best and to send my warmest regards to our troops.

To the troops - Please ignore doofus posters. Leave it to our efficient FR Mods to plaster them with our very own Patriot missles!

"Your right about 2004 Tonk"

Even though the Canteen tries to be non-political it's like a magnet to the opposition.
A favorite "tactic" is to "stir the pot" and then leave.
Then that person attacks somewhere else and their co-horts carry on "stirring".
There was even someone last Friday complaining about the thread about old TV shows.
Thanks for your input Brother!

The Mission has not been forgotten.

GOOD MEEEOW-NInG Y'ALL!

Ever have one of those days when everything seems to keep piling up and you can't get out from under it? LOL!

Weeeeell, I had one yesterday and am just now able to get to FR and the Canteen. Just in time to say "Good Morning" and "Good Night" on the new thread.

Hello to all our troops, veterans and allies wherever you may be! THANK YOU for protecting the USA and all the other countries who value Freedom!
