USO Canteen FReeper Style ~ Mission Statement 101 ~ April 16, 2003
68-69TonkinGulfYatchClub and FRiends of the Canteen

Posted on 04/15/2003 11:35:36 PM PDT by 68-69TonkinGulfYachtClub

Seems like in the past few days the mission of the Canteen has been forgotten.

USO CANTEEN FREEPER STYLE MISSION STATEMENT
Showing support and boosting the morale of
our military and our allies military
and the family members of the above.
Honoring those who have served before.

The most blatant offense of the above statement was at the end of a thread the other day that had to be deleted.
An active duty FReeper had come in to tell us the latest about his wife and soon to be baby.
When he said he liked a certain thread he was insulted by someone
who had spent most of the day on a thread they said they did not like.
Who he was or who the person who insulted him are not important now.
Many watched the drama unfold before the thread was pulled.
AT THE SAME TIME another Canteen thread (older one) was attacked
by an anti-Bush, anti-military type FReeper.
Luckily Admin deleted that post and banned that FReeper.
Understand that there are those who come to the Canteen with the sole purpose
of starting trouble to get FReepers to argue with each other.
Their purpose is to discredit the Canteen mainly because it is
VERY supportive of the Commander-in-Chief and the military.
These are the same type of people who you see in the anti-war protests.
Mark my words, when the 2004 elections start expect more attacks on the Canteen.
Even though the Canteen is non-political it represents a threat to some.
Please use your head and do not engage those
who just stop in the Canteen to disrupt from the Canteen Mission.

If the Canteen is "not for you" please move onto another thread.

If you ever not sure what is"right" to post, just read the Mission Purpose
then it will become quite clear if your post belongs here.

Remember 1000's of military read the thread(s) each week.
That is the sole reason why we are here each day.

"but didn't realize just how long"

Since Oct 2001, right after 9/11. I just couldn't sit and do nothing.
Joined after Navy said I was to old to re-enlist,
National Guard said I was to old also.
I average about 60 hours a month now-a-days, working on my 1500 hour milestone next.

Thanks for the congratulations.

"Since Oct 2001, right after 9/11. I just couldn't sit and do nothing."

You made an excellent choice, IMHO.
I've read a bit on the Coast Guard Auxiliary and can appreciate the all the volunteers who serve.
I'm looking forward to being here on the day we get your report that you've reached that 1500 hour milestone!

You're more than welcome. :-)

It's wonderful to see you at the Canteen, boxerblues.
Please tell your sons I said "Thank You" for their service. I hope I'll hear when the 101st is coming home so I can be at the gates to wave a welcome as they roll in.

Hi, weldgophardline! It's always wonderful to see you at the Canteen!

I don't know what I would do if I could not Freep and have input with fellow freepers.

Oooooo, perish the thought!

I'm looking forward to the weekend's FReep reports by you and the other Colorado FReepers. Y'all ROCK!! Thank you for getting out each week in support of our troops!

TROOP WATCH

Thank you for posting these great pics of our troops in Iraq, Linda!
Though they still have some work ahead of them (like finding more of those weapons caches. yikes!), they've done an amazing job in a short time in helping the Iraqi people live free of fear.
One day, hopefully real soon, order will be restored to the country and our troops can come home.

As much as I hate it, I'd best say, "Good night all". I've been hearing a low rumble for a little while which is getting louder and louder. A NASTY storm moving in, judging by the lightning flashes I can now see. Best not to have the 'puter on when it hits.....I've had enough of 'puter problems. LOL!! Guess I'll grab this big lug....

....and hit the hay. Tomorrow's another day.

Good night to all our troops and allies, wherever you may be. May God watch over you and keep you safe.

While I have have appreciated the Canteen as a venue to use whatever talents I may have to send messages of admiration and support to our troops, and have enjoyed a pleasant fellowship with many here, the juvenile display earlier in the week has ruined it for me.

Those who found themselves in disagreement were treated harshly, no matter how mildly and diplomatically they shared that disagreement.

The nicest FReeper I know was treated shamefully--frankly, one of the best people I've ever been lucky enough to meet anywhere. And for what?

Just take me off the ping list, please.

One of THE best active duty military FReepers was treated badly Mon
because he said there was nothing wrong with Mon's thread.
All he did was take some time to tell us about his wife and soon to be born baby.
Several other active duty family members also said nothing was wrong.
People saw from the title of the thread and the opening statement what the thread was, yet many came in anyway just to complain and insist that it was "their way or no way."
Odd how when a oscar thread with pics more revealing than swimsuit pics are done no one says a thing.
FR beefcake threads are ok also and no one says anything.
Yet a double standard exists for the military.

My great disappointment has nothing to do with the military. Keep them out of it. It has to do with way good friends and good people were treated; and the fact that damage was done to FR just because of that stupid thread. It wasn't even close to being worth it.

you said it.

it's true.

sad but true.

and 'all for the troops.'

what a joke.

i sometimes wonder if anybody from 'the troops' stops by this place. if they did, why? cutsey dancing flipouts? arguments? meanness? back-n-forth inane drivel? same ol same ol howdys from the same ol mutual admiration society clique? and of course the coarse madness from those power-hungry elite who don't care a twit about 'the troops' except for running the show here at this limp site.

thanks for posting the truth, poster.

may the truth keep marching on. . .but it doesn't really stand a chance in this locale of hypocrisy and self-centeredness.

Hopefully they will get to come home soon, but you'll have to get past me ... I already promised him I'd meet him at the gates holding a couple of homemade strombolis and a cold 6 pack for him.
