The Story of a Frozen Byrd ... err, Bird, covered in Excretment
My brother | May 7, 2003 | Edited and enhanced by Jeff Head

Posted on 05/07/2003 7:30:13 AM PDT by Jeff Head

There was once a byrd, err, bird, who had waited far too long to fly south for the winter. Finally, he decided he must be on his way or he would die, so off he flew.

As he made his way down out of the cold north and was crossing Montana, a cold wind began to blow and then a early winter storm raged. The byrd, errr, bird, got colder and colder and soon fell to the earth, expecting to soon pass from this existance.

He had been on the ground no more than two minutes when a passing buffalo defecated on him and covered him over with a fresh paddy. At first the bird thought to himself, "Oh, man, what more could possibly happen to me?"

Then, after a few minutes, the byrd, err, bird, found that the warmth of the excretment was thawing him out. After a little while he was able to move and began making his way upwards, out of the fresh pile and towards a lightening sky.

In fact, when his beak poked through the top of the excretement he was so happy he began to chirp and squak and even to sing.

Unknown to the bird, less than 100 yards away there was a hungry fox. When the fox heard the bird singing, he immediately ran over to the fresh buffalo paddy, dug the byrd, err, bird, out and ate him.

The moral to the story?

  1. Don't procrastinate things you really should do. Bad things are apt to happen when you do.
  2. Not everyone who covers you in crap is your enemy.
  3. Not everyone who digs you out of a pile of crap is your friend.
  4. And finally, if you are a Byrd, err, bird, over neck deep in crap ... dont chirp or sing about it.

Most folks find that out to be true the hard way ... and sadly, in those circumstances where it is not a friend digging them out, too many then turn right around and they simply get in league with the animal that dug them out.

Thankfully, there are also many in our lives ... true friends ... who come in an hour of need and help us dig ourselves out of some pretty messy situations.

For me one of the keys is this ... are they helping me dig myself out ... or are they offering to do everything themselves?

Good lesson, fer sure. Reminds me of the wild pigs in the Okeefenokee Swamp tale. Don't follow the trail of free corn.

You're welcome ... my feeble attempt at a little humor this morning ... but I guess not everyone is getting the kick out of it that I did when my brother called me up and related it to me.

Major Sour Grapes, here I think.

Nothing untoward about the CIC visiting the troops; just happened to be at sea and not on land.

You gotta laugh at the dems.

Depends on their intent I suppose ... some are just misguided and salvagable, as is the case on both sides of the fence when it comes to socialist tendencies and unconstitutional, anti-liberty actions.

Others do it with a will and are using the uneducated and misguided and represent true enemies.

I might add, that there are times, when life and liberty is in emminent danger when you have to treat both the same and let God sort it out.

Byrd is laughable ... but the problem is that there are so many who will act on his rediculous statements that it becomes more serious, even dangerous.

best regards.
