Powder..patch..ball FIRE!
''It's a lousy parking thing and it turns into 11 shots being fired off in a house full of people and kids. That scares me.''
There were three children in an adjoining room and other residents nearby when the shots were fired.
Police Chief Inspector David M. Howells said city detectives had told him that the investigation had been completed and that charges were not going to be filed unless new information surfaces.
Howells said investigators found no evidence that the homeowners tried to sic the dogs on the constables, or that the constables were reckless or not justified in shooting the dogs.
These so called public servants need to be held accountable for this outrage.. Fired 11 shots in a house full of people to kill three dogs that weren't doing anything??!!?!

Hartman remained in the county prison Sunday, unable to post the $3,000 bail set by District Justice Donna Butler A $3,000 bail for parking tickets? And the police shoot his dogs.

Did the Constables just move in from Tennessee?

"And the police shoot his dogs."
Their idea of justice is nothing if not thorough.

On the surface this looks like an over extension of the law by some real doofuses who shouldn't have a gun or a badge. I hope to see more details but to me it looks like the dog killers have struck again. No mention of breeds in story. For now I vote, "Get rid of the Gestapo".

This is one of the examples of what we see to base our opinions on. I'm sure these constables have served hundreds of warrants without shooting a homeowners pets, but this seems/sounds intolerable.

Geez... What about using pepper spray? I'm not an animal rights whacko, but is seems like these dogs were having an understandable reaction to strangers in the house. Why turn it into a gunfight? Seems like a lot of cops are pretty gung-ho these days. I guess it's kind of understandable, considering what they have to go through, but still....

Police seem to have a real knack for making enemies when the need to do so never existed. Between lying in court, behaving like they are adolescents with a badge, and shooting pets, grandpa, and each other, the media scores three bad to one good in the reporting scene.
I plan on submitting an invention disclosure for canine Kevlar. It ain't just for pussies, it's for fido too!

Didn't read the article because I was so outraged by the lead. When will police officials stop shooting ugly women? Sure, they are offensive and a blot on the landscape but the cops should be shooting them just because the girls are less than semi-beautiful.

Only one side of the story is being told. It doesn't say why the cops shot the dogs. If the constables have served hundreds of warrants without incident, what happened this time that there was an incident?
The story doesn't say. I've been in alot of houses with dogs and had no problem. I've also been in houses where the people won't put their dog away and they tell me "he won't bite." The next thing you know, I've got a dog biting my ankle.
It's easy to make the cop look like the bad guy when the whole story isn't told.
To: Modernman
I've used pepper spray on dogs. From my experience it didn't work too well.
I'm guessing that when the constables went to take this guy into custody the dogs thought the owner was being attacked and then attacked the cops.
Did it say what kind of dogs they were? I didn't see any mention.
To: BallandPowder
How do you know the dogs weren't doing anything? The article says that the owner didn't 'sic' the dogs on the cops but it doesn't say that the dogs didn't attack the cops.

It's easy to make the cop look like the bad guy when the whole story isn't told. In Texas, a chief constable is elected, then he appoints his crony friends to be deputies. None of them have to be law enforcement officers when elected, and they're given some cursory training.
IOW, they have no business carrying weapons. Stories like this illustrate why. And why does it take more than one to serve a warrant for parking tickets?
Constables are political hacks, not lawmen.

Because if they had been attacking you can be sure they would have mentioned it prominently in the article "The three brave constables were in fear of their lives and fired in self protection blah blah blah....

Hartman remained in the county prison Sunday, unable to post the $3,000 bail It's hard for me to believe a $3,000 bail would be set for just parking tickets.
Although it says the man did not sic his dogs on the police, I feel this bail represents some other charge in this matter other than the tickets, as the police need to cover their a**es.
And we know LEOs would NEVER lie....

Oh, I agree with you. I'm just letting you know that this information really sticks with us. Police spokespersons have chances to splain facts, but give no comment usually. No wonder the stories are slanted.
An internal investigation, a few hours of additional training, and nothing else is done.
I love dogs. I would never have three of them living in my house. I'm sure there is more to the story. But this is what we are left with to shape an opinion.
Thanks for the reply.

It's hard for me to believe a $3,000 bail would be set for just parking tickets. It's worth it though, a criminal traffic ticket scofflaw is off the streets.
The dog that survived the shooting remained in a veterinary hospital awaiting surgery to remove the bullets, Hoover said. But the surgery won't be done until the vet receives a $2,000 down payment, said Hoover, who is trying to raise the money through donations.
So, not only does he have to pony up the 3k for bail, he also has to pay for the damage done to his surviving dogs, thanks to the brilliant police work done by these fine lawmen. Must be great to be a cop. You get to shoot your gun whenever you want, and not have to be concerned about the consequences of your actions,
I guess the saying is true...some pigs are more equal than others.
And we know LEOs would NEVER lie....
No...of course not, but even when they do, don't you know it's for our own good? We can't have cops being held accountable to the same laws as the rest of us peons. How could they do their jobs if they had to tell the truth?
