[history]
A wrong turn led a truck of illegal immigrants into a seat belt awareness checkpoint in Greensburg on Monday, but after an hour-long detainment, police let them go.
A police officer handing out "Click It or Ticket" flyers to drivers on North Main Street near Cabin Hill Drive noticed two men, later determined to be Mexican, sitting up front in the truck were not wearing seat belts. They were told to pull over.

unless any of the Mexicans had a criminal background or an outstanding warrant. Now correct me if I'm wrong, but DOESN'T BEING IN THIS COUNTRY ILLEGALLY GIVE THEM A F'N CRIMINAL BACKGROUND???

This is what a $40 billion Homeland Defense Department buys us?

It sure isn't a place you'd think they'd go to find work.
Too many honest, law-abiding Americans living there who need jobs.

Yes, of course you're correct. I guess in this instance illegally doesn't really mean illegally. Its unclear when illegally means illegally....murder?, theft?, rape?...who knows. OTOH this happens ALL the time and has been for years...it isnt new. I suppose it would still be un(der)reported if 9/11 hadn't occured. This all leads me to wonder who really owns this country. More and more We the People are looking more like We the Peasants. A real owner would be holding their reps accountable. Clearly this isnt the case (any more). We can whine about it or become active and make sure the job gets done right. Its really up to us to make it happen...the guys in DC sure aren't up to the job.

I thought it had to be a different Greensburg. It still isn't the type of place where you would expect this to happen.

the only noticeable hispanic presence in the entire PGh area that i am aware of, is the LatinAmerican studies Center at the U of Pittsburgh. these people had to stand out like sore thumbs in Greensburg!!

None of them spoke English.
We are witnessing our Cultural and National SUICIDE!

A year or two ago, a crew laying fiber optic cable lines for AT&T, none of whom spoke English, punctured a gas line and blew up two houses in nearby Hempfield Township.
That stood out.

The illegals are everywhere. About a year or two ago, some Mexicans who had been contracted by either the telephone company or the cable company to perform some excavation accidently hit a gas line which subsequently caused a house to blow up in Hempfield Township, just outside of Greensburg, PA. I never heard whether they were illegals or not, but I do recall that their English skills were non-existant.
I do not understand why INS was not interested in these people.

seat belt use was the primary reason for the stops, but through the checks police discovered drugs, suspended licenses and a stolen license plate. It's not about safety. It's fishing.
Warnings were given to those not wearing seat belts.
If they were serious about safety they would have issued tickets.

i guess it would. i moved from Washington Twp, PA to suburban DC, i still posit that illegal immigration in the Pittsburgh area cannot possibly be a serious concern

The men in this story were supposedly heading to Philly.
