Is there any telescope available that can discern the footprints left on the moon? (Parental homework assist in progress!)

Certainly not a telescope based on Earth. Optically, it is impossible to resolve such a small feature on the moon from Earth. I suspect even a satellite orbiting the moon would have a very difficult time seeing such small features.

You want to see an object 0.3 meters long at a distance of 400,000 kilometers? I'm not sure even Hubble could do that...

Take pictures of Arizona, that's where the footprints are anyway.

The most powerful telescope orbiting earth can only discern objects on earth approximately 0.5M in diameter, and thats from an altitude of approximately 100-150 miles.

No, but you might be able to zoom one in on that Hollywood studio where the filmed the "moon landing"...

(good luck, hope this isn't as last minute as it usually is with my kid)

Last time somebody mooned me, I left a size 9 vibram print on him. It's probably faded by now though. Sorry.

Yeah, but that's through an atmosphere, too, which has to make it harder to see...

"0.5M in diameter"

Really? Are you sure?

They swept up the lot, thus removing the footprints, after they finished filming it in Mesa, AZ.
