ASK MA Welcome to Ask Ma! This is where you can interact with Ma and ask her life's most important questions. This is especially true if you are an athlete, coach, or wannabe. If you happen to have a stressful life and need to tell someone, ask Ma!
_____________________________________Dear Ma, I love America, but I can't really speak English. I've dreamed of playing in the NBA, but I'm not sure if I'm good enough to make it. Do you have any advice for a young French man with dreams of NBA glory? Thank you, Paranoid Parisian
Dear Paranoid, It would seem that your biggest problem is your nationality. I would avoid telling anyone that you are French. If they ask, tell them you are Canadian. That's a universally understood nationality that anyone can use. They don't mind. I've already asked. Second, I would say that working hard and trying out for NBA scouts would be a must. Third, you need to have something more unique than the current roster of players. Speaking ghetto and acting ghetto won't cut it. Although, I must admit it, would be hilarious to hear a Frenchman speaking French ghetto. Work hard! Work hard! Work hard! After that, pray! Pray some more. If that doesn't help, have the French government campaign on your behalf that you are being singled out because you are French. While it may advance your chances at getting an NBA spot, you could be the next Charles Barkeley or Allen Iverson. Hey! We're Americans! We've got to have someone to hate. Don't forget to brush your teeth and take good care of your mama. ______________________________________ Dear Ma, I have always wanted to be a sportswriter for a major newspaper or magazine. Do you have any advice for me? Thank you, Jayson Blair's "voice" number 2.
Hello Jayson Blair's "voice" number 2, How are you doing? How's the other 49 "voices"? Have you met our resident "nut" Burka Man? If not, I'll schedule an appointment for you to do lunch. As for your ambition to be a sportswriter, I would imagine that covering major news events was probably not a great thing. Doing sports can be a toughie as well. Most people will be able to watch the major sporting events. So? You can't fake it. You can fake it for your mama. You cannot fake it for the average Joe out there. They don't like to be fooled. Although, the more "sophisticated" snobs in Manhattan would probably be easy to fool. They don't really like American sports. They are more into "Whose Sleeping With Donald Trump" events. I'm sure it's stimulating, but not all around amusing for the rest of us. Also, you need to make sure that the rest of your "voices" are well medicated. We don't need "nuts" running your brain. You've got enough problems son. So? Take a vacation and get a new life. Maybe you can get into the FBI's Witness Protection Program and change your name. That would be the only way anyone would believe what you wrote. Have a great day Jayson's "voice" number 2. ---Ma |

The Fisher House program is a unique private-public partnership that supports America's military in their time of need by providing homes close to a loved one during the hospitalization for an unexpected illness, disease, or injury. There are currently 31 houses located on the grounds of every major military medical center and several VA medical centers. These houses will play a critical role in caring for casualties from Operation Iraqi Freedom. Donations will be used to help meet the cost of lodging for a family whose loved one was injured in Operation Enduring Freedom or Operation Iraqi Freedom. There is a limit to the number of families who can stay in a Fisher House and program is committed to help provide lodging for families who must find commercial lodging, because the Fisher House is full. |

Good Morning MoJo2001. Good morning to our military and good morning to the whole Canteen crew. Great thread (and I think that the Jayson Blair voice #2 has know the Burka man all his life).
Warm up exercise for today . . . . .
Two good ol' boys, Bubba and Junior get promoted from Privates to Sergeants.
Not long after, they're out for a walk and Bubba says, "Hey, Junior - there's the NCO Club. Let's you and me stop in and have us a drank."
"But we's privates," protests Junior.
"NO, we's sergeants now," says Bubba, pulling him inside
"Now, Junior, I'm gonna sit down and have me a drank."
"But, we's privates," says Junior.
"You blind, boy!" says Bubba, pointing at his stripes. "We's Sergeants now!"
So they order their drinks and pretty soon a hooker comes up to Bubba.
"You're cute," she says, "and I'd like to take you someplace and make you feel good -- but I've got a bad case of gonorrhea."
Bubba pulls his friend to the side and whispers, "Junior, go look in the dictionary and see what that gonorrhea means. If it's good, give me the okay sign."
Junior goes to look it up, comes back, and gives Bubba the big okay sign.
Three weeks later Bubba is laid up in the infirmary with a terrible case of gonorrhea.
"Junior," he says, "What you give me the okay for?!"
"Well Bubba, in the dictionary, it says gonorrhea only affects the privates."
Then he pointed to his stripes and says, "But we's Sergeants now!

Today's FEEBLE attempt at humor:
While proudly showing off his new apartment to friends, a college student led the way into the den.
"What is the big brass gong and hammer for?" one of his friends asked.
"That is the talking clock", the man replied.
"How's it work?" the friend asked.
"Watch", the man said then proceeded to give the gong an ear shattering pound with the hammer.
Suddenly someone screamed from the other side of the wall "KNOCK IT OFF, YOU JERK! It's two AM!"

GOOD MORNING ALL. GOOD MORNING TO ALL OF OUR AWESOME MILITARY.I know today is Sports Day, and Mojo has done a great job of it, too, so I'd like to contribute the following for those of us who have been couch potatoes for some time, or who can't remember the last time they played a sport (was it croquet?), or who's idea of a sport activity is a day of working the remote, Oh, you get the idea. After a day at the Canteen's Sport Day, some of us will discover muscles we didn't even know we had. So, this is my gift to you:
I hope that I have enough for everybody. And, you don't have to Thank me now. It's the least I can do for my Canteen FRiends.
