Warmer climate may threaten some crabs

If the Earth's climate continues to warm up as predicted, some crab species along the Pacific coast may face extinction. A study shows that small crabs that live just off the beach in warmer waters have little tolerance for rising temperatures. Jonathon H. Stillman, a marine biologist at Stanford University, tested the heat tolerance of four species of crabs found in the shallow waters of the Pacific Ocean and reports his findings this week in the journal Science.

A 95 degree temp and 95% humidity will easily turn me into a crab.

"If the Earth's climate continues to warm up as predicted,"

Big IF...I'd like to see environmentalists predict the weather a month in advance.

I thought you had to use that pesticide shampoo. But now they say warm weather will kill crabs. Extinction would be a good thing would it not?

Crabby Dick would think so.

This really is a bunch of crabp. First, they killed innocent crabs in the name of so-called science. Second, if the theory of evolution has any validity whatsoever, then these crabs ought to adapt to the change in tempreture, which should take place -- if it happens at all -- slowly over hundreds of years.

Warmer climate may threaten some crabs.

I've never heard leftists referred to as crabs before ... but it fits.

the temperatures were raised in the individual aquariums by about a fifth of a degree a minute until the animals' heart beat stopped. This established the upper thermal tolerance limit for each of the species.

If you lock me in a room and raise the temperature 12 degrees an hour you will soon find my thermal tolerance limit, too.

CaptRon tested the heat tolerance of some Hudson River crabs recently and found that once the water reaches 212 degrees they taste just fine.

I just returned from a vacation on the South Coast of Oregon. The crabs are excellent.

As long as you do not plan to keep them fresh in the spa.

We could use a decrease in crabbiness...

OH sorry. This is about the environment, not decorum. Nevermind.

Another way to deal with crabs is to shave half of the infested area, set fire to the unshaven area, then kill the crabs with an ice pick as they flee the fire.

I have made that same test myself......
(Many times, in fact, just to make sure the data was correct)
I am compelled to concur with your findings.....
(Perhaps we should jointly publish the results of our efforts for the rest of the scientific community. What do you think?)
