I saw on another thread that Rush says that Condelezza Rice is resigning, maybe she's going to run.

You may or may not be surprised to hear this from a black conservative who likes to think of himself as a staunch moderate but I don't want her for the same reason that I don't want Davis...I saw her performance when questioned about the justification for the war and she passed the buck. I don't care who gets in office as long is it someone who is able to honestly say that the problems in California have been caused by both parties because they all took money from special interest groups to sell us out to the energy concerns...
We need someone who is going to do what is necessary to fix the problem instead of redefine it for political gain...

What Davis and all the other enlightened persons forget at times is that they work for us...It is their job to make our lives (not their own) better.

My favorite line from the movie "The American President".

"I have been trying so hard to keep my job that I forgot to do my job!!!"

It is a very valid point that Republicans need to be more inclusive but it also needs to be said that Democrats tend to take groups for granted....Minorities are so important during a campaign because if energized and voter turnout is high in that group, the Democrats have an advantage....The only thing that I can say is that Democrats have good intentions going in...With Republicans, the only thing I can say is that I know where I stand...For some reason, that means more to me...

Kalifornians will jut replace one poltical whore with another. Their problems are far from over. For they are still Liberal Kalifornians at heart. (Present company excluded).

Actually it's mostly the great unwashed "undecideds" who make the difference in CA. (when I say undecideds I don't mean registered independents alone, many people who are registered as Democrats don't know what they believe) For many complex reasons they have been jumping on with the Dems, but rememeber, less than 10 years ago Reps swept the state and won control of the Assembly.

While the Dems have been nominating the far left who have benefitted from the unwashed middle voting down the Dem ticket, polls of the California electorate continue to show that it is not a hard-core liberal base. As recently as 2000 California passed the protection of marriage initiative by 62% and that included the San Francisco and LA areas in the mix. Some parts of the state were over 80% even though the measure was roundly criticized as homophobic, hateful, intolerant and right wing.

There are a number of complex reasons why the electorate has been going for the Dems. For one, Pete Wilson was a big part of the destruction of the GOP in California.

It has been a great week for the GOP here. The Dems are in free-fall. The Republicans in the Senate just 15/40 finally won on the budget. Its not a pretty budget but there wil be NO TAX INCREASES.

There are no easy answers but if we do things right for the next year you could see a turn around as we begin to look like we stand for something and appeal more to the folks who don't know what they think.

As a person who resides here, I can tell you that though the state is very liberal in many ways, the far left and the far right have usually enjoyed a peaceful coexistence and exchange of ideas and political capital that has resulted in a moderate society.

The problem the Democrats are having right now is very simple...They voted with the Republicans on Energy Deregulation and have no political cover for the energy crisis...In other words, they get caught with their hands in the cookie jar...

What I like about California is that within the same state, you can living in a very conservative (Orange) or very liberal (San Francisco) community. There is a place for everybody. Living in Orange County, I live very much knowing that this is a primarily conservative community. I know that there are lines that are not crossed here and it is actually very comforting. If it goes too far to the right, I can leave and not have to go far to find what I am looking for...If it starts to get a little too "enlightened", I can move ten miles Northwest and find what I want...

It sounds to me like she is coming to same conclusion that the General Public did about impeachment... "Shame on all of you"

A conservative commentator stated this morning that Davis is a master of convincing the electorate that he is the lesser of two evils....The problem right now may be no one wants things to get worse and therefore, we have to put people in office who are going to fix things or take visible steps to make them better...

That comment about not having a Spanish speaking spokesperson really shook me.

It was totally unprofessional of the GOP not to have covered that one.

In the article: "Gilliard hesitated. Clearly, it hadn't crossed anyone's mind to have a Spanish speaker. This tells you how the California GOP still thinks: It's still as white as snow, and as out of it as a comatose patient in intensive care.

"Uh, our Spanish-speaking representative is (Assemblyman) Bob Pacheco," Gilliard said. "You can call him."

At least Gilliard looked uncomfortable. That's social progress among California Republicans."

He answered her question. I don't know how she interpreted this as not having a Spanish-speaking representative. Maybe he personally just had to think a moment to remember the guys name.

Representative, not a spokesman immediately on hand.

OK. Here is the staunch moderate about to get in big trouble....I agree that it shows great respect and consideration to have someone available to interview and provide information in Spanish. I was thinking back to my time overseas however and I seem to remember that the people who interviewed and were broadcasting in another language also have the option of doing the interview and then having a certified or professional translator available. I would not ever go up say "Where's the brother from the hood that's gonna tighten me up with the lowdown and the nasty 411?" I think that what also may be involved here is that Spanish Broadcast Stations do not want to deal with the delay if no Spanish Speaking official is available. It might not be a bad idea to have one of these translators that I have seen in the courtrooms and have them available as a contigency...

Be part of the solution...Not part of the problem.

Adios, amigos...
Auf Wiedersehen, meine freunde...
Later, my brother....
Ciao, ragazzi!!!

This statement tells me more about how the writer thinks than how the California GOP thinks.

He said Dems weren't taking this seriously enough and it would come back to haunt them.

I mocked and ridiculed the first few recall posts that I saw on FR. I didn’t take it seriously, thinking that is was the fancy of wackos. I don’t think most folks foresaw the success of this recall.

My apologies to the folks I laugh at!

I hadn't seen an editorial saying in those exact words.. but close. There were a couple papers that took good shots at him. The SF Chronicle was one , I think. I get mailer crap from Stark and Honda. Zoe Lofgren dwells in this neck of the woods as well.

Can't tell you how many times I've scanned an article thinking I've got the right idea, from the title and what I picked up, only to find out I don't agree at all after someone else calls me on it. Have a good one.
