If the next governor goes down for making unpopular decisions, then what better reason to have someone who is not "really" a Republican be the one? After all, none of the McClintock supporters will acknowledge that Arnold is a Republican. It's the perfect answer: a political outsider who is not a "true" conservative according to the party faithful.

Tom will not win. He should make a deal with Arnold to get an endorsement for the Senate and then SHUT UP. I'm on the _other_ coast, but watching this one with great interest.
There is a question that California conservatives -- and California Republicans (for I sense these aren't one and the same) -- must start asking themselves, as this election is coming on fast.
That question is:
Who do I/we really want as governor? Davis or Bustamente?
Because, from where I sit, that looks like the _actual_ choice you may have to make. Either vote "yes" to retain Davis, or vote for the Republican candidate of your choice -- and _get_ Bustamente.
As unpalatable as that dilemma may be, you folks in California had better start grappling with it now, because it's a choice you _will_ have to make in October....
Cheers!

Everytime I hear Ueberoth on the TV -- I just want him to disappear from the national stage. All he talks about is the 1984 Olympics -- I lived there during the Olympics and he did a great job but that was 1984 -- big difference between then and now.

Try illegal immigration, driver's licenses for illegals,
Arnold has said that he wants to lobby Washington to legalize the Illegals... Said Proposition 187, the 1994 measure that denied many services to illegal immigrants, was "history" because it has been largely voided by the courts. He supported the proposition at the time voters approved it. "Now we have to move forward with the whole thing and to look at it, what we're going to do with all the people that are undocumented immigrants here in this state. What should we do? Should we have them to stay here, which I think is the right way to do, but how do you then include them in our society, how do you make it official, how do you make it legal?" he said. He added he would try to team up with other states with large immigrant populations and lobby the federal government to address the issue. LINK
Doesn't matter if Arnold opposes the DLs for Illegals, they'll get them anyway if he gets the Amnesty he wants. In the end, Schwarzenegger is no better than Bustamante on Illegals. A vote for Arnold is a vote for Amnesty. I will therefore not vote for him.

Hillary, I have been clear. I think Arnold is the only viable electable candidate. But I do wonder, if he will be pilloried out of office and a pub will never ever get in. Californians seem enraged at David but are they ready for a conservative? Not so sure. Arnold may be the best they can do so I want him to win. But there is a downside to winning. That place is crazy and they seem to be on a trek downhill faster every day. They might have to crash to really reject what they have done to themselves. I have always thought MC Clintock and Uberoth should butt out.

What means something is that with absentee ballots being voted, McNader has just assumed McSpoiler status and official enemy #1 for the Republican Party in California.
He will have to leave the party since nobody in the Republican party will harbor a spoiler with a Napoleon complex or offer them a future.
He's toast politically in CA now.
Crossed the line by not being out before votes were being cast.
He has cursed the election with his ego and denial of his unelectability. He also fully knows he is spoiling the election.
At this point he is only growing those on the conservative side who will at every turn look to bury him.
This is no longer the candidate staying in to get his name out there. This is the guy causing followers to throw away their vote down an empty hole in a passive vote for the Democrat party and the lefts militant agenda.
The Tom camp is worse than any Rino I know of.

This arnold supporter would vote for mcClintock if Arnold pulled out. You cannot govern if you are NOT elected. You cannot hold a veto, if there is NO R governor to issue the veto... whatever or whoever it takes... to get some control over the legislative process...
We gotta get whoever we can in there... but I prefer Arnold. He is more in line with the average californian than McClintock... I don't think the majority of voters would pick McC... and as such I see him as a spoiler candidate only... and most likely financed by democrats and the indian gaming association of gangsters...

The Field poll shows an astounding number of undecideds. The SurveyUSA poll showed "certain" voters, and only had 2% undecideds. That's a pretty big difference The polls operate differently. The field poll has live interviewers calling the various numbers. Survey USA has computerized voices calling and giving options that those polled respond to by punching a number on their touchtone phone. My guess is those who were undecided probably hung up before the interview was complete since it was a lot of work to remember 1 means this candidate, 2 means this candidate, 3 means this candidate for six or seven candidates plut undecided, other, etc. Methodology is way different.

Sorry if your first post was misinterpreted, but it really pushes my buttons when Non-Californians wish a generation of chaos on us just to teach some of us a "lesson."
I'm definitely in favor of McClintock dropping out, and I'm furious that he hasn't. There's only one way to beat Cruz now, and that's Arnold.
and I'm not a guy........~</;o)

A vote for Arnold is a vote for Amnesty.
Your severely biased assertion, despite much evidence to the contrary.

I don't back spoilers who help get Democrats elected.
Do you support the RNC's anti-#187 strategery in California the past nine years, which has resulted in not a single GOP victory in a Presidential, Senatorial, or Gubernatorial election here since #187 won hands down, in 1994?

Arnold Schwarzenegger's views in his own words:Pro Gun Control
- "I'm for gun control. I'm a peace-loving guy." (Time magazine cover story, Aug 18, 2003) When interviewed on the issues by Sean Hannity on August 27th, Schwarzenegger admitted that he is for gun control. He said he supported both the Brady Bill and the ban on so-called "assault weapons." He said, "Also I would like to close the loophole of the gun shows." When asked by the Sacramento Bee to detail his positions on gun issues (scroll down), Arnold stated that he supports legislation to ban .50-caliber rifles, force gun buyers to pass a state-defined test in order to purchase a handgun, and require load indicators or magazine safety disconnects on new semiauto handguns.
- Pro Abortion
Schwarzenegger appeared on FoxNews' "Bill O'Reilly" program in May 2001 and said he disagreed with President Bush's pro-life position. "I'm for choice," Schwarzenegger said on the program. "The women should have the choice. The women should decide what they want to do with their bodies. I'm all for that." When interviewed on the issues by Sean Hannity on August 27th, Schwarzenegger admitted again that he is "pro-choice". - Pro Gay Agenda
From Cosmopolitan magazine, "I have no sexual standards in my head that say this is good or this is bad. Homosexual-that only means to me that he enjoys sex with a man and I enjoy sex with a woman. It's all legitimate to me." He also supports gay adoption, despite the fact that both conservative Republicans and moderate Democrats voted by a 61 percent margin for Proposition 22, the Defense of Marriage Initiative, which defined marriage as that between a man and a woman. (Newsmax, 28 July 2003)
When interviewed on the issues by Sean Hannity on August 27th, Schwarzenegger admitted that he is for legalized "domestic partnerships" which would give gay couples the same benefits as marriage. - Pro Big Government Programs
Regarding the passage of Proposition 49, a big government social scheme providing funds for after school programs: "Every California child deserves access to a proven, quality, life-changing afterschool program, and now they will have it. My hope is that, as goes California, so goes the rest of our nation." When interviewed on the issues by Sean Hannity on August 27th, Schwarzenegger said that he believes that social programs should be focused on children. He said, "I think the important thing, again, is that we work on education and really make sure that the kids have the first run at our treasury."
In the same interview with Hannity, Schwarzenegger said that he supports big government programs to buy back leases as a measure to protect the environment. He said, "I think that our state government and our federal government should negotiate to buy back the leases [from the oil companies.]"
- Pro Environmentalist Agenda
When a reporter asked him in early August to detail his positions on the environment, he said "I will fight for the environment. Nothing to worry about."
When interviewed on the issues by Sean Hannity on August 27th, Schwarzenegger said he did not support offshore oil drilling. He said, "No, absolutely not. I think that we should stop the oil drilling and I think that our state government and our federal government should negotiate to buy back the leases [from the oil companies.]"
- Pro Clinton/Anti Impeachment
In 1999, Schwarzenegger told George magazine of his bitterness about the frenzy over Monica Lewinsky and Bill Clinton and the waste of time and energy it represented. "That was another thing I will never forgive the Republican Party for," he said. "I was ashamed to call myself a Republican during that period."
- Soft on Illegal Immigration
In a radio interview with KABC radio host Larry Elder on August 27th, Schwarzenegger said that allowing illegal immigrants to stay in the United States is "the right thing to do." Last year, while campaigning for his Prop. 49 after-school programs initiative, Schwarzenegger...declared in answer to a question from the audience: "I would never stand in the way of any child going to school, whether he or she is here legally or illegally, it does not matter." (Sacramento Bee, 24 August)

A good percentage of undecideds never get around to voting.
Perhaps, but check out THIS thread about the last Field poll before the Simon/Davis race last fall:
New poll shows Davis leading Simon by seven points

New poll shows Davis leading Simon by seven points
ERICA WERNER
Associated Press Writer
LOS ANGELES - With the election days away, Democratic Gov. Gray Davis maintains a seven-point lead over Republican challenger Bill Simon, according to a poll released Friday by the nonpartisan Field Institute of San Francisco.
Davis received support from 41 percent of likely voters in the poll, while Simon's support stood at 34 percent. The margin was unchanged from the last Field Poll, released in early September, and from the poll before that in July.
In September, Davis was at 38 percent and Simon 31 percent, and in July, Davis was at 41 percent and Simon at 34 percent.
Friday's poll found 8 percent of voters planned to vote for one of four minor party candidates, 3 percent said they would leave their ballots blank for governor and 14 percent were undecided...
CLICK HERE for the rest of that thread
Now compare these "Field poll" predictions (on 11/1/03) with the ACTUAL RESULTS (on 11/5/02) from
www.ss.ca.gov:
Davis = 47.30% (vs. 41% in the last Field poll)
Simon = 42.40% (vs. 34% in the last Field poll)
