16th October 2007
Statement authorised by the TAC Primate
" The College of Bishops of the Traditional Anglican Communion (TAC) met in Plenary Session in Portsmouth, England, in the first week of October 2007. The Bishops and Vicars-General unanimously agreed to the text of a letter to the See of Rome seeking full, corporate, sacramental union. The letter was signed solemnly by all the College and entrusted to the Primate and two bishops chosen by the College to be presented to the Holy See.
The letter was cordially received at the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith. The Primate of the TAC has agreed that no member of the College will give interviews until the Holy See has considered the letter and responded."

The Anglican Rite would grow substantially if true and if accepted by Rome (if true).

You're a day (at least) behind the fair.
I wish I had a dollar for every picture of an ape or monkey that's been posted on an Anglican thread. It's worse than "hugh" or "series" or "Bush's fault".
Sionnsar has a complete explanation which he began posting in desperation at the head of every Anglican thread. You can probably find it by searching for "Anglican ping list".
The coincidence is because of the Latin "primus" meaning "first".

ES, prepare for an extension of your education in the English language:
Main Entry: pri'mate
Etymology: Middle English primat, from Old French, from Medieval Latin primat-, primas archbishop, from Latin, leader, from primus
Date: 13th century
1 often capitalized : a bishop who has precedence in a province, group of provinces, or a nation
2 archaic : one first in authority or rank : LEADER
3 [New Latin Primates, from Latin, plural of primat-, primas] : any of an order (Primates) of mammals comprising humans, apes, monkeys, and related forms (as lemurs and tarsiers)
-pri'mate-ship \-*ship\ noun
--pri-ma'tial \pr*-*m*-sh*l\ adjective

Thanks to
Frank Sheed for the ping.
Traditional Anglican ping, continued in memory of its founder Arlin Adams.
FReepmail Huber or sionnsar if you want on or off this moderately high-volume ping list (sometimes 3-9 pings/day).
This list is pinged by Huber and sionnsar.

(how large is this group? I really don't know much about the state of the Anglicans in England.) Insofar as I can tell, it's one of the largest of the "Continuing" churches, though unlike most transnational. Compared to most of the national churches, though, it's still small.
And it's been rebuffed by Rome before. I haven't dug into to find out what's different this time.

Everything seems to be in place for this to happen. See the Pastoral Provision website for information on how whole congregations have come over to Rome.

It seems like it ought to be fairly smooth ...

The Anglican Use Society met with his Holiness a couple of weeks ago. I wonder if TAC was discussed.

Rebuffed isn’t the right word. Corporate reunion with Anglicans is apparently impossible since the Church doesn’t hold Anglicans orders to be valid.
I’m all for reconciliation: I hope they come home, bring their whole congregations with them, and have their ministers ordained as priests and even bishops. None of that will happen, however, until TAC says, “Okay, our orders are invalid, or at least we have to believe we need conditional ordination by Catholic bishops to be sure.”

What I heard from an Anglo-Catholic priest in Atlanta was that the sticking point was whether Rome would consent to conditionally re-ordain the Anglican priests.
Given the parlous state of the Anglican Communion, I wonder if the TAC hasn't finally consented to unconditional re-ordination.
The good news (which I was also told by the same priest) is that for purposes of retirement and pension the Catholic Church will use the original date of ordination in the Anglican Communion. He commented, "This is what's known as having your cake and eating it too . . . "
