Mahony blesses L.A.'s rally [pro-(illegal)immigration rally]
Los Angeles Times ^ | May 01, 2010 | Robert Faturechi

Cardinal Roger Mahony was smiling widely Saturday as he navigated the crush of immigrant rights supporters rallying in downtown Los Angeles, enlivened by the throngs of adoring supporters who kissed his hand and asked to be blessed.

"Thank you, Arizona," he said, to no one in particular. "Thank you, Arizona."

For the cardinal, the thank-you was two-pronged.

Mahony compared Arizona to Nazi Germany after the state passed a strict new law that allows police to check the legal status of anyone suspected of being an illegal immigrant.

But Mahony said the Arizona legislation might turn out to be a net positive, hastening the passage of federal immigration reform. It also gives the Catholic church a welcome break from criticism of its handling of sexual abuse allegations against priests.

"When we have internal problems, we have to deal with them, but this allows us to continue our outreach," Mahony said. "This is an important part of moving on."

>----SNIP----<

Mahony called the Arizona legislation unconstitutional. He also challenged Gov. Jan Brewer to release a set of clear criteria defining what constitutes "reasonable suspicion" that an individual might be undocumented.

"They can't," he said. "Because you'd come up with ‘brown skin, black hair and listens to ranchera music.' "

Midway to City Hall, the cardinal crossed paths with actor and devout Catholic Martin Sheen.

"Martin Sheen, come join the Cardinal," one of Mahony's handlers shouted.

"No, no. I'm gonna go this way" the actor called back apologetically.

Before rejoining with the marchers at the head of the procession, Mahony greeted attendees under the shade of a check-cashing outlet on Broadway. He placed his palm on the foreheads of followers, blessing them and offering words of support in Spanish.

Upon his retirement , Mahony needs to join the Episcopal Church in LA, soon to be led by lesbian Bishop Mary Glasspool. This would allow both Protestants and Catholics to gain on the exchange. Neither one would have to be concerned about sexual advances by the other, and he could pose as an administrative consultant ostensibly to educate her regarding arcane duties of the office of Bishop. However, there might be some problem if he traveled to Rome and she accompanied him as an administrative aide. The pair would be the darlings of the LA journalists who would fawn over every move of the lovely couple. Wouldn't this start the tongues wagging.

How about "Doesn't speak English, suggesting strongly that the individual was not raised in this country, and doesn't have any proof of being a legal visitor."?

We need a good African Pope who won’t tolerate people like him. Bring back ex-communication, shut off all of his funds, ban him from church property.

Catholic was once a valuable brand that men died for, rather than denounce.

And now we are witnessing a disgraceful act of suicide.

I would encourage Cardinal Mahoney to consider the Catechism of the Catholic Church, specifically section 2241:

“Political authorities, for the sake of the common good for which they are responsible, may make the exercise of the right to immigrate subject to various juridical conditions, especially with regard to the immigrants’ duties toward their country of adoption. Immigrants are obliged to respect with gratitude the material and spiritual heritage of the country that receives them, to obey its laws and to assist in carrying civic burdens.”

Great!

When is Pedophile Protector Cardinal Law going to go?

Or is Mahony just going to retire to the Vatican with the rest of the Pedophile Protectors?

I have no answers to your questions, but my intuition tells me that Mahony might stick around Southern CA for a year or so.

Hard to tell.

I support imprisoning people for the crime of stupidity who confuse the acts of an individual with the teaching of the Church. In fact, you and Mahony can share a cell.

The RCC endorses illegal immigration.

Bearing false witness is a sin.

You are not aware of the current immigration laws, that have been in existence since 1940 requiring all non-us citizens in this country to "carry their papers"?

Why would I be sharing a cell? Because I said something you disagree with?

I support the church loosing it's tax exempt status when this type of thing is allowed to run free.

I don't, because that will set precedent for the next church to "loose" its tax-exempt status for opposing abortion, homosexual acts, "gay marriage", etc.

It's the same argument we make on the First Amendment: a government permitted to censor positions with which we disagree will soon permit itself to censor those with which we agree.

Bearing false witness is a sin.

So I made up the Catholic Legal Immigration Network, Cardinal Mahoney and the plethora of other priests and bishops who harbor illegal immigrants?

Are you brainwashed?

I bet Mahoney and a good number of other lefties are NOT HAPPY with the Pope’s new appointment to fill Mahoney’s vacuum. Maybe they can whine themselves right out of the Archdiocese. Won’t be a moment too soon. I hear that Abp. Gomez will come in alongside Mahoney in May, even tho Mahoney does not step down til next February. Goodbye, Mahoney. Not a moment too soon.

Why do you think they are interviewing him now? They want to milk the most out of Mahoney as a ‘Cardinal’.
