For many will come in my name, saying, 'I am the Christ,' and they will lead many astray.

Not to go off subject..but have been researching further on occults and false religions...where they are at..who is who their histories etc. Interesting factoid that plays out with those who have greatest memberships... they all have one strong feature in common...they use Christian verbage, distort it and twist it...and also with the same end result in mind..."You will be like God or become a God." additionally Jesus Christ is eventually removed pretty much entirely and becomes far far less then He is at the very least...replaced by another entity...or personage which dethrones his rightful place. Scientology, New Age Spirituality, Mormons, Hinduism all retain their memberships almost identically....same tactics....same bait....same experiences... and all have rites of passage. I write this because the scripture reference you gave where Jesus strongly warns us not to be led astray...and the fact He mentions.."MANY" will be the enticers... and "Many" will follow. As for "date setters".....by setting dates those people are actually calling Jesus a lier....He said no man will know that time....now either that is the truth...or not. And if that's not the truth then anything else he said can be put into question.

No kidding. With all the rain we’ve been getting, we can watch it grow.

Or maybe it’s just mold.....

Satan will always mix just enough truth with the lies to ensnare people.

That’s why it’s so critically important to know Scripture so thoroughly. When Satan tempted Jesus, even using Scripture which he twisted and distorted, Jesus replied with *It is written....*

Jesus didn’t try to argue with Satan, but rather countered with the real truth of God’s Word.

Warning Against Apostasy

Hebrews 5:11-14
11About this we have much to say, and it is hard to explain, since you have become dull of hearing. 12For though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you again the basic principles of the oracles of God. You need milk, not solid food, 13for everyone who lives on milk is unskilled in the word of righteousness, since he is a child. 14But solid food is for the mature, for those who have their powers of discernment trained by constant practice to distinguish good from evil.

That's Baloney Marshmellow.... Anyone reading the Bible can USE IT to substantiate anything they want it to...including Catholics.

Even the apostles debated amongst themselves and that has not changed among believers to this day...and I say again...even among Catholic leadership.

For that matter even an alcoholic can justify his behavior for it reads...”Eat, Drink and be merry for tomorrow you shall die”

Each man is held accountable to God for what he allows and believes....further we are encouraged to exhort and correct false teaching....especially to those who have been deceived and misled. So expect conflict and differences....God will always reveal the truth in his own time..... Camping he will once again be found to be a fraud....regardless of his beliefs and behavior....”Be sure your sin will find you out”..and his credibility will be shot.

for those who have their powers of discernment 'trained' by constant 'practice' to distinguish good from evil.

Now that is a critical portion of that scripture Metmom. One cannot only read scripture but 'apply it'. And Sometimes we miss that mark and find God faithful to correct us as we continually seek his will and his desires for us.

The idea is "the training"... and "practice"....it comes thru allowing God to fine tune our hearts and minds to recognize evil when we see it and hear it. And He does it by and thru His word and the relationship we have with Him...and putting into practice what we know. I think I mentioned before that the people who handle money in our government are taught how to recognize counterfeits by "training" to know every detail of the real thing. I found that so interesting...because it is exactly the same thing with knwoing God and His word.

People who play religiousity and do not learn Gods word are targeted by the enemy for he knows they are vulnerable...and where. Thus so many do fall into cults and false teachings.

It gets back to Psalm 119:11. If we know God’s Word, we know His thoughts and we are ready in season and out of season to give an answer for everything.

Psalm 119:9-16

9How can a young man keep his way pure?
By guarding it according to your word.

10 With my whole heart I seek you;
let me not wander from your commandments!

11I have stored up your word in my heart,
that I might not sin against you.

12Blessed are you, O LORD;
teach me your statutes!

13With my lips I declare
all the rules of your mouth.

14In the way of your testimonies I delight
as much as in all riches.

15I will meditate on your precepts
and fix my eyes on your ways.

16I will delight in your statutes;
I will not forget your word.

2 Timothy 4:1-3

1 I charge you in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who is to judge the living and the dead, and by his appearing and his kingdom: 2preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, and exhort, with complete patience and teaching. 3 For the time is coming when people will not endure sound teaching, but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own passions,

I managed to get on almost every time I wanted to—and gave him a run for his money on his unBiblical notions. However, his surface is incredibly hard—doesn’t scratch easily at all.

Would be interesting if every caller for the whole time period read him the riot act from Scripture about such unBiblical assertions.

The “Gospel of self-esteem” fits in there rather neatly!

40 years ago . . .

I was more polite than a lot of his callers, maybe most, even, were.

He had a maddening way of ignoring the point or question made and going off on a straw dog tangent.

Yes, the focus is directly on the individual...24/7 along with all the fuzzy stokes so they "feel" special. They're like a woman looking for a sugar daddy...shower the individual with a false sense of love...til they have taken the bait. But they are really after the revenue coffers. Later, once they are well indoctrinated to their thinking, then the pressure begins....people are afraid not to comply because then the care and love would cease. Many have abondonment issues to begin with so for them that in itself will keep them trapped in these organizations.

http://money.cnn.com/news/economy/storysupplement/harold_camping/?iid=EL

This is Camping’s final letter to the staff of Family Radio. Now he expects Family Radio to still be in operation when he’s “gone”? I thought his view was no one would be saved after the “rapture”. But then again no one was saved after 21May1988, when the Holy Spirit departed (was that the date that a Reformed church asked him to stop teaching?). The inconsistencies are glaring. It is clear that he is a false teacher, and his motives are suspect (I’m being kind here).

In fact, bibtut -- Harold Camping's philosophy seems akin to yours. This is what his website says
At Family Radio, we emphatically teach that the whole Bible is the Word of God. We believe that, in the original languages in which the Bible was written, every Word was from the mouth of God, and consequently, is never to be altered and must be obeyed. The Bible alone, and in its entirety, is the Word of God.
So Camping is not only Sola Scriptura but also KJV only like you, bib, right?
