Argument For Homosexuality In The Church
http://www.relegere.org/index.php/bct/article/viewFile/274/257 ^ | Blind Eye Jones

Adriane Thatcher has written a book (Savage Text) where in he offers an argument for the acceptance of homosexuality in the Christian church. His argument runs along the lines that we should look at the passages that condemn homosexuality as savage text (text that renders scripture holy) – in the same way we should look to passages in the Old Testament that show God’s predilection for child killing, his wrath and vengeful wars against local tribes as savage text. These texts should not be used by the church because they contradict the loving character and message of Jesus. It should be reminded that the Bible is not the Word of God, but a witness to The Word of God. To elevate these passages as the Word of God or use the Bible as a guide book approach is bibliolatry: to make the Bible into a false idol. Jesus (as the fulfillment of the Old Testament) ultimately provides the standard by which we should judge homosexuals and minorities. Jesus would not condemn homosexuality because he is the God of Love and preaches love, compassion and inclusivity.

I am taking a course that will be using Adrian Thatcher’s book and looking for ideas that will counter this argument. Thanks.

Here is a review of his book:

Man's fall came when he ate of the tree "of the knowledge of good and evil". Ever since then his rebellion has been under girded by one thing

-"I'll decide what's right and wrong" God's input doesn't matter.

Come Lord jesus.

Wisdom of Solomon 12:1-6, For thy immortal spirit is in all things. / Therefore thou doest correct little by little those who trespass, / and dost remind and warn them of the things wherein they sin, that they may be freed from wickedness and put their trust in thee, O Lord. / Those who dwelt of old in thy holy land / thou didst hate for their detestable practices, / their works of sorcery and unholy rites, / their merciless slaughter of children, / and their sacrificial feasting on human flesh and blood. / These initiates from the midst of a heathen cult, / these parents who murder helpless lives, / thou didst will to destroy by the hands of fathers.”

The Bible IS the Word of God. He is Faithful and True (Rev 19:11). The Bible is faithful and true (Rev 22:6). The words that God speaks are spirit and they are life (John 6:63). Man shall not live by bread alone but by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God (Matthew 4:4).

"[And the LORD spake unto Moses saying, ...] And if a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them." Leviticus 20:13

Looks like He means what He says. Sodomy is an abomination and deserving of capital punishment. Anyone who says otherwise is calling God a liar.

Those pushing for sodomite acceptance might try to float the line "we are under grace and no longer under the law." The law is eternal. Jesus Christ fulfilled the law. (Read Hebrews) Because we are in him, we establish the law. (Read Romans). Those who break the law will be punished. The believer's sins are forgiven, but there will be consequences in this life. The unbeliever is under condemnation and the wrath of God abides on him. (John 3:18, 3:36).

Jesus said:

And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul; but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell. Matthew 10:26

People no longer fear God and respect him. Instead they "excuse" and make life "comfortable" for those in wicked sins, consigning them to an eternity in the lake of fire. That is not loving. If you love someone, you will tell him what he is doing is a wrong in hopes of reaching him with words of life. Sadly, many will be so reprobate that they cannot be reached.

Isaiah 5:18-21, “Woe to those who draw iniquity with cords of falsehood, / who draw sin as with cart ropes…/ Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, /who put darkness for light and light for darkness, / who put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter! / Woe to those who are wise in their own eyes, / and shrewd in their own sight!”

When God ordered the Israelites to destroy certain peoples, I think we have to assume that He knew what He was doing. It’s not that the Israelites were more savage than later Christians, or that the Old Testament God was different from the New Testament God, but that God decides through His providential will.

Those people who were destroyed were idol worshippers, and most of them had practices like sacrificing their own children to idolatrous Gods, such as Moloch. Or practicing prostitution in the temples of various goddesses.

We’ve all heard the phrase, “Kill them all, and let God sort them out.” Presumably if there were any good people among those tribes that were eliminated, God took care of them.

The commission of homosexual acts, in contrast, is always an evil, back then and now. Not having homosexual inclinations, but putting them into practice. It would never be right in a Christian priest or clergyman. Nor can it be excused in Christian laymen, because the job of the clergy is to preach God’s word and convert sinners.

If the Catholic church is accepting homo’s, perhaps it’s time to look for a new religion, similar to your beliefs.

Saying nothing, or doing nothing about it is accepting it.

Basically every sentence this guy writes is contradictory to Scripture, refuting it one sentence at a time would result in several refutation sentences for each one he wrote.

The whole work is so far out there it’s preposterous.

Anyone who argues that homosexuality is a legitimate, sanctioned form of sexual contact seeks to accomplish Satan’s purposes in the Earth and make Satan’s job a whole lot easier to do.

The problem is, anti-homosexuality is also in the NEW Testament.

Logic, why don’t they teach logic in these schools...

If you believe that Jesus Christ was the Son of God, came to earth, lived a sinless life, and died on the cross, then you can be fully assured that the God who sacrificed his only Son on a Cross for the sins of humanity will keep his word and not allow sin, in the form of homosexuality, to come into His Kingdom.

- God condemned homosexuality under the law of the Patricarchs.
- God condemned homosexuality under the law of Moses.
- God condemned homosexuality under the law of Christ.

When Jesus prayed in the garden “yet not as I will, but as You will.”, that should be sufficient to the homosexuals that no matter how much THEY want to do what they want, Christ showed that you do what GOD wants.

Thatcher, as well as other so called “theologians,” are continuing the attack of Satan on God’s word that began when the serpent asked Eve, “Did God say?” in Genesis 3.

If the Bible is not God’s inspired word to humanity, then we can twist it any way we want to fit our particular lifestyles, and do it in the name of religion. Moral relativism attempts to make Jesus of Nazareth into a “nice guy.” The truth is quite the opposite.

“Do not suppose that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I did not come to bring peace, but a sword. For I have come to turn a man against his father, a daughter against her mother, a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law, a man’s enemies will be the members of his own household.” Matt 10:34-36

“I am not praying for the world, but for those you have given me, for they are yours.” John 17:9

“Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites!” Matt 23:15

“You snakes! You brood of vipers! How will you escape being condemned to hell?” Matt 23:33

I’m just saying. If you can only find a non English speaking church, or if your churches around you are full of the homo agenda, then just quit it all together.

Have your own family service at home. He will not only understand, but guide you into it.

Those who are like minded might join you. Put the word out there. If your home isn’t big enough, get the word out. Perhaps someone else can do it in theirs.

I’m just saying you have options.....don’t get trapped.

Using this logic you can justify anything. Simply condemn anything in the bible that does not validate your personal opinion as “savage text”.

I couldn't agree more. It's always easier to embrace some simple (and simplistic rule that 'works for you' than it is to do the right thing and interpret the entirety of the Bible as a whole.

I ALWAYS refuse to get into a 'dueling Bible verses' contest - otherwise, I end up, as the joke goes, 'tying my ass to a tree and then walking 10 miles".

These are the parishes that have tridentine masses. I don’t know how far all of these are from you.

Personally, I’d recommend going to the spanish speaking masses. Better that the mass obeys Christ.
