LORENZAGO DI CADORE, Italy — For the second time in a week, Pope Benedict XVI has corrected what he says are erroneous interpretations of the Second Vatican Council, reasserting the primacy of the Roman Catholic Church and saying other Christian communities were either defective or not true churches.

The Catholic definition of Church means having a valid priesthood and valid sacraments.

That means only the Orthodox are true Churches based on the definition of St. Ignatius of Antioch from 105 A.D.

Chapter 8. Let nothing be done without the bishop

See that you all follow the bishop, even as Jesus Christ does the Father, and the presbytery as you would the apostles; and reverence the deacons, as being the institution of God. Let no man do anything connected with the Church without the bishop. Let that be deemed a proper Eucharist, which is [administered] either by the bishop, or by one to whom he has entrusted it. Wherever the bishop shall appear, there let the multitude [of the people] also be; even as, wherever Jesus Christ is, there is the Catholic Church. It is not lawful without the bishop either to baptize or to celebrate a love-feast; but whatsoever he shall approve of, that is also pleasing to God, so that everything that is done may be secure and valid.

Ecumenism with Protestants should be limited to the social sphere like charity and fighting militant atheism, that’s it.

The Catholic Church should not alter or water down its teaching to placate Protestants.

What did Christ say to the Apostles? Please inform me how your protestant ministers are connected to what Christ said to the original disciples. BTW, I don't think there is any mention of your denomination.

Matthew 29: 16-20 )with footnotes

The Commissioning of the Disciples.* 16f The eleven* disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain to which Jesus had ordered them. 17* When they saw him, they worshiped, but they doubted. 18* g Then Jesus approached and said to them, “All power in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19h Go, therefore,* and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the holy Spirit, 20i teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you.* And behold, I am with you always, until the end of the age.”

* [28:120] Except for Mt 28:18 based on Mk 16:18, the material of this final chapter is peculiar to Matthew. Even where he follows Mark, Matthew has altered his source so greatly that a very different impression is given from that of the Marcan account. The two points that are common to the resurrection testimony of all the gospels are that the tomb of Jesus had been found empty and that the risen Jesus had appeared to certain persons, or, in the original form of Mark, that such an appearance was promised as soon to take place (see Mk 16:7). On this central and all-important basis, Matthew has constructed an account that interprets the resurrection as the turning of the ages (Mt 28:24), shows the Jewish opposition to Jesus as continuing to the present in the claim that the resurrection is a deception perpetrated by the disciples who stole his body from the tomb (Mt 28:1115), and marks a new stage in the mission of the disciples once limited to Israel (Mt 10:56); now they are to make disciples of all nations. In this work they will be strengthened by the presence of the exalted Son of Man, who will be with them until the kingdom comes in fullness at the end of the age (Mt 28:1620).

Main stream Christian doctrine claims Messiah brought a new doctrine. Messiah says otherwise. I'll take his word over man any day since he was the "WORD" of God that has been from the beginning.

Are you saying that OT ceremonial laws apply to Christians? If not, what conflicting doctrine does mainstream Christianity introduce?

If I were to get really obnoxious I would ask you to provide proof of your minister’s absolute succession by ordination to Christ himself.

The Catholic church isn't even sure about its own succession of popes.

It's disingenuous to demand from others proof Catholics can't even provide themselves about themselves.

And yeah, it would be obnoxious.

So there’s nothing Biblical about apostolic succession... Thanks!

And of course, those schismatic Roman Catholics once again show their hypocrisy about “apostolic succession” when in fact it continues with the Eastern Orthodox Church, from which they split. RCC is no more “apostolic succession” (itself a non-Biblical requirement of being “a true Church”) than Lutheranism or Methodism.

Out of context? I think not. I take the words as they were spoken.

Me thinks that you need to educate yourself before spouting off about subjects which you neither understand nor seem capable of hearing in the context they were meant.

Gee let’s see, a church founded by the Lord or one founded by... who founded yours, anyway?

Prayer is worship.
Prayer is worship.
Prayer is worship.
Prayer is worship.

Uh, no matter how often you say that, it isn’t true. Prayer can be part of worship, it can also be a simple plea. Lawyer pray all the time, ask one.

Sorry guys.the pope says we are out... so much for “cant we all get along” huh?

Worth reviewing: Charles Hodge's Letter to Pope Pius IX

To Pius the Ninth, Bishop of Rome,

By your encyclical letter dated 1869 you invite Protestants to send delegates to the Council called to meet at Rome during the month of December of the current year. That letter has been brought to the attention of the two General Assemblies of the Presbyterian Church in the United States of America. Those Assemblies represent about five thousand ministers and a still larger number of Christian congregations.

Believing as we do, that it is the will of Christ that his Church on earth should be united, and recognizing the duty of doing all we consistently can to promote Christian charity and fellowship, we deem it right briefly to present the reasons which forbid our participation in the deliberations of the approaching Council.

It is not because we have renounced any article of the catholic faith.....

Worth reading the whole thing.

I’m saying the Pope joining with false religions isn’t someone I’m inclined to follow.

“It is GOD who gives the gift of preaching, or makes a man an Apostle (a la Paul).”

Silly Apostles them:

And the plan met the approval of the whole multitude, and they chose Stephen, a man full of faith and of the Holy Spirit, and Philip and Prochorus and Nicanor and Timon and Parmenas and Nicholas, a proselyte from Antioch. These they set before the Apostles, and after they had prayed they laid their hands upon them.

(Acts 6:5-6)

Nice rant. Unfortunately, it doesn’t make any sense whatsoever.

Exactly, this is nothing new.

I don’t know why RN7 is posting this article as if it was written today when it from an article in 2007.

Whenever I post a thread here I put the date of the article

Worth repeating. I missed the date until you mentioned it. Thank you. I wonder why the original poster omitted such important information. I hope it was just an oversight.

They know it all. Being a Catholic who is serious about his/her faith is divisive in their worldview.

I would agree that the Assisi meetings were travesties, but the thread topic represents action in the opposite direction.

For your enlightenment. Remember that the Early Church Father knew the Apostles personally in most cases.

>> So I should care about the pope’s opinion for what reason again?

Well, he’s got a cool car with a glass phone booth on top. That means he’s a celebrity, and you know how full of themselves all those celebs are!

Word on the street is, he doesn’t have seat belts in it though.
