Chariots in Red Sea: 'Irrefutable evidence'

A news report that stunned the world nine years ago about the discovery of possible ancient chariot wheels at the bottom of the Red Sea is suddenly gaining fresh attention with new video claiming “irrefutable evidence” that corroborates the find.

In June 2003, WND interviewed Bible enthusiasts who dove the waters of the Red Sea, alleging they found and photographed parts of chariots that may be the actual remains of the catastrophe brought upon the Egyptian army which pursued the Israelites, according to the Book of Exodus in the Bible.

“I am 99.9 percent sure I picked up a chariot wheel,” said Peter Elmer, a forklift mechanic from Keynsham, England, who made two diving trips to the Gulf of Aqaba branch of the sea. “It was covered in coral.”

“I believe I actually sat in an ancient chariot cab,” he told WND at the time, referring to his time exploring a submerged item in the underwater junkyard. “Without question, it is most definitely the remains of the Egyptian army.”

Now, Michael Rood, a Hebrew-roots teacher, has produced a video proffering evidence Elmer is absolutely correct.

His DVD, titled “The Red Sea Crossing,” documents the work of numerous researchers from the U.S. and overseas who have probed an underwater land bridge between a beachhead at Nuweiba, Egypt, and what is today Saudi Arabia.

“What they found strewn across the bottom of the reed sea has shaken the religious and scientific community,” says Rood. “Cameras, mounted on remote-controlled submarines, revealed coral-encrusted chariot parts, horse and human remains strewn like battlefield wreckage on the bottom of the reed sea.”

He uses the term “reed sea” instead of Red Sea, as that’s the literal translation of the words “yam suph” in Holy Scripture, referring to the body of water God miraculously opened for the

Now... if GOD parted the waters, how did ANYONE cross the bottom of a body of water, which would likely be a muddy mess, and full of slippery flopping fish?

"But the children of Israel walked upon dry land in the midst of the sea; and the waters were a wall unto them on their right hand, and upon their left." (Ex. 14:29)

"The secret things belong unto the LORD our God: but those things which are revealed belong unto us and to our children forever; that we may do all the words of the law. (Deut. 29:29)

If you have a current it might be firm. Or if on a coral reef. I was looking at some info, and the Red Sea is the only sea that does not have any rivers draining into it (so less silt load). Plus, the very low precipitation.

I was looking at photos of ship wrecks in the Red Sea. The water seems to be really clear - probably due to little rain and no rivers.

However, the coral growth on some modern looking ships is pretty substantial - similar to some of the “chariot” photos. And yes, the image of the “wheel and axle” is difficult to imagine that a wood axle (I’m guessing) would remain intact long enough to allow coral growth. And then after 4500 years the coral is still only 1 to 2 feet in size around it.

I would imagine there is a fairly good knowledge of coral growth rates for various types of coral and water conditions.

In previous post 29 "philman_36" has linked to a video that needs to be followed through to number 5 which is "Exodus Revealed part 2". It is worth watching to gain a good understanding of the evidence of this site as the site of the exodus crossing. It is at this link, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9bJ5JdBd4QU

An excerpt of a detailed video of the journey of Israel to Mount Sinai is well worth watching at this link Mt. Sinai found. You can start at 1:24. http://www.arkdiscovery.com/mt__sinai_found.htm

This is also an interesting take on the crossing and Mount Sinai. It is in 5 sections of video. It is called "Mountain Of Fire - The Search For The True Mount Sinai". http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A08_oRBAVPA

All of these are fun to watch and very interesting to watch.

“And God caused a stong East wind to blow that night so that the waters were parted and Israel passed over on “DRY GROUND”! (no slippery floppy fish). Obviously there were some muddy areas as chariot wheels got stuck on them; compounded by the fact that the Lord discomfitted the men and horses so that they turned upon each other in fear and confusion when they attepted to pursue Israel. Read the story in Exodus and compare the story with some of the info provided by this story.

Paleo-Hebrew was indeed the script used during Solomon’s time; “modern Hebrew” script is not Hebrew at all, but actually Aramaic which took over the written language of Hebrew during the Babylonian exile. What we see today in prayer books and used in Israel is really Aramaic script. This is similar to writing Russian using English letters.

"Exodus Revealed" is a good video series.

Thanks for the "Mountain Of Fire" link. I haven't seen it before so it'll be interesting to watch.

I believe in the historicity of the Bible.

I have read about the theory that Mt. Sinai was not in the Sinai Peninsula as it is referred to as being in the land of Midian.

I have also read about the theory that the “Red” Sea really meant Reed Sea, and was somewhere near the Mediterranean in the Sinai area.

If this part of the Red Sea is the only area where a possible submarine land bridge over the chasm between the Arabia Penninsula and Egypt exists and the corssing was through the Red and not Reed Sea, it happened here.

The area is worthy of serious archeological examination.

On the OTHER hand, I’m not sure that the evidence they claim they have discovered is valid. Its hard to believe that wooden objects would have survived over so long a period of time unless they were left in a really deep area below the oxygen zone, as some objects at the depths of the Black Sea. You might expect to find some metal artifacts however.

But even if you find metal artifacts from ancient Egypt there, linking them with absolute certainty with the events of the Exodus might prove difficult.

It is a miracle we are talking about. God is powerful enough to stack up the waters so I'm sure that He's powerful enough to handle the little details, too. This is a much bigger problem for the naturalistic explanations of the parting of the seas but not a problem in a miraculous explanation.

I hope this story is true. However, as with stories about Noah’s Ark, the Ark of the Covenant, the Shroud of Turin, and other religious artifacts, I’m always skeptical about the claims. It seems that wishful thinking rather objective analysis usually drive the conclusions.

Not Solomon’s time; the time of the Exodus.

I should have been clearer: I was referring to the proto-Hebrew found on the columns which, they said, dated to Solomon’s time.

I should have been clearer too.

The pillar was either prophetically erected at the time of the Exodus, using a future script & mentioning a future king; or it is a Solomonic era artifact, the equivalent of a “George Washington slept here” sign: maybe true, or maybe apocryphal, but not necessarily historically reliable. I don’t believe the former, and don’t place much value upon it in the latter case, except as an ancient artifact.

I wish they would find the heap where “...and every man cast his stone on the heap...” where/when the Israelites crossed over Jordan at Gilgal, as God held back the flooding river.

I agree. If we accept God parting the waters, then we must accept everything else 'on faith'.

However, I questioned this aspect of it because in the Bible it also states that the Pharoah's Chariots became STUCK in the MUD.

Now, was it muddy, or was it not?

Was it just Chariots that got stuck and not people on foot?

I posed my later comment before I read your response. I understand the 'act of God' thing, but I was questioning the logic.

After all, they are trying to PROVE this now with LOGIC and actual EVIDENCE, so I thought that using LOGIC to reason out their proof would be the most applicable thing to do.

I don't have too much of an issue with this. I don't feel the need to be able to explain every detail. I also understand why scientists have to be less flippant about those little details but even scientists need to recognize that some things defy ready explanations.

Now, was it muddy, or was it not? Was it just Chariots that got stuck and not people on foot?

Is this a plausible, naturalistic explanation? The first people who crossed were walking on ground which did not have evident moisture but as several thousand persons cross over, the pressure of their footsteps mix the little moisture into the dirt and the ground becomes muddy. It would be like when a yard absorbs a light rain. A few people can walk on it without damage but if the kids play on it for a few hours, it becomes a mud hole. This effect would only accelerate after those thousands of people walked through and then the 1,200-pound horses with hard hooves and chariots with hard wheels begin punishing the ground. Combine this with the fact that water is beginning to seep back adding more moisture and what was dry ground could become a quagmire.
