Informed my daughter she has gain 50 pounds (she was a runner and very cute), started taking drugs and sleeping around ans she lost custody of her kids.

There it is. If she is using drugs then odds are the ex is, too. That information would certainly help in a custody battle so find out all you can.

OK that is very good she has a lawyer. In 99% of the cases the mother unless she volunteers otherwise retains custody. His rights in that aspect are not nearly as iron clad as hers. CPS will not protect her or the kids. We were harassed, threatened, stalked, all court orders and conditions violated, and were forced to do basically anything our daughter wanted.

Due to our income we could not afford a lawyer. As a defensive move her lawyer basically put me on trial and DCS stood there knowing the facts and let them do it. In the end DCS wrote the defenses version of the judges opinion for them. Her new hubby had multiple felonies. I have speeding tickets. She got her kids back. She also got the living daylights beat out of her by new hubby. We warned her. She heard his prior convictions read in court and half were domestic violence related. Some were felony. With a good lawyer I think your daughter will do fine.

It's been almost 4 years now since we've seen the grand kids. But I have gone after the state Department of Children's Services in every media venue I can.

svcw, your prayer request is very important, don’t feel that it’s not every bit as important as any other prayer request. And it’s important not only to your family on a personal level, but beyond to our larger society where so many families are operating in dysfunction. It’s heartbreaking.

I would imagine that at some deep level your former SIL is wracked with guilt and self-hate for having jeopardized and destroyed his family as well as his own life, prospects and comforts. So he is acting out to your daughter and children in threatening ways. Of course he has no grounds to get full custody of the children but he’s happy threatening your daughter, knowing the emotional and financial toll the court battle could take.

On the other hand, she has the CPS background against him, and were it me I would use that to tell him to shape up or he will have no visitation rights. Maybe she should just get a good tough ba$tard lawyer to send him a cease and desist type letter and if he doesn’t shape up, further CPS action (that won’t cost your daughter $$) will be taken. I suppose she wants to tread lightly there.

I will pray with you and others that your former SIL, who had once been a very decent person, regains his moral compass and makes amends when and wherever he can without doing anyone further harm.

Both of my Ex son in laws make the local arrest logs fairly frequent. Not sure where our daughter is now. Both know better than come after us physically. Once the state took the grand kids to a foster home from our home the harassment stopped. In one weeks time I was served papers several times at one point. One was to be in court the next morning.

Their lawyer didn't think that the legal harassment was enough. So he put his law partner a woman who's laugh cackled like that of a Hyena or a witch out in the hall close to us. After we lost the kids we had one last court date it was over state required child support our daughter was behind on. We had to show up. She was giving her lawyer neck messages while court was in session. Like I said I don't like lawyers. LOL.

Prayers but she has status quo and unless there has been a change in circumstances he doesn’t have much chance. She needs to call CPS everytime there is evidence. She should get a Guardian ad litem for the children and ask for him to pay the whole bill and her legal fees if he actually does file.

Actually, take the pictures but take them to the doctor everytime they have any marks, doctors are mandated reporters.

It does not seem whiny and self-centered! I give you credit for not killing the guy. If anyone did this to my kids, the cops would have to shovel him into a body bag. Meanwhile, I know something of what your daughter is going through. You will all have my prayers.

First of all my friend, your problem is very important and we are glad to pray for you. There are so many thoughtful suggestions by previous posters. I’d tell your husband about all this right away, have your daughter document everything, call the police as many times as she needs to, get a restraining order and have her trained in self defense with handguns, and perhaps a shotgun. When the wolf is at the door, we can’t wait to dial 911. I pray it never gets that bad. I’d make such a stink with police reports, child protective services and domestic violence shelters that this evil man is put away for a long time. Surely there are domestic abuse organizations that can offer your dear daughter expert help in this terrifying situation.
