An extra pope in Saint Malachy's prophesy?

A bleg for Latin experts, sorta:
St. Malachy's list of popes is usually expressed as referring to a final pope, Peter the Roman.
In the final persecution of the Holy Roman Church, there will sit Peter the Roman, who will pasture his sheep in many tribulations, and when these things are finished, the city of seven hills will be destroyed, and the dreadful judge will judge his people. The End.
I just found out that this was written in two paragraphs!
In persecutione extrema S.R.E. (Holy Roman Church) sedebit.
Petrus Romanus, qui paſcet oues in multis tribulationibus: quibus tranſactis ciuitas ſepticollis diruetur, & Iudex tremẽdus iudicabit populum ſuum.[e] Finis.
Being in two paragraphs, this would seem to refer to two popes. But I'm not expert in Latin to know if the first paragraph as a standalone makes any grammatic sense. Could it mean, "In extreme persecution of the Holy Roman Church, he will sit"? As in "do nothing?" Or that a persecutor will sit in the throne? Either fits to Pope Francis!

I’ve always interpreted that verse to refer to the Pope who comes after Francis, where he will be a strong Pope. I’m not saying that’s a good thing, do not misunderstand me.

I guess that depends on how accurate it has been so far.

the city of seven hills will be destroyed, and the dreadful judge will judge his people. Seems like he just plagiarized Revelations.

Usually, the list of popes is considered not to be in sequence; there may have or will be popes that are not described in Malachy's words, so there may be many popes after Franky before we get to one audacious enough to choose Peter (or be born Peter, or something).
I'm going to fall back on what Jesus said, only cuz I've been falling back on that a lot lately: "Do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own." (Sorry if I misquoted; Scripture and I have only a passing acquaintance just now).

The first sentence is somewhat ambiguous because of the use of the abbreviation SRE. You can't tell what case it's supposed to be ... is it genitive ("In the final persecution of the Holy Roman Church [he] shall sit") or nominative ("In [the] final persecution, the Holy Roman Church shall sit").
Not sure I would understand "sedebit" as connoting "would do nothing".
Not sure I'd put much stock in punctuation anyway unless it's present in the original manuscript.
Disclaimer: I think the "Malachy Prophecies" are a 16th Century forgery / joke anyway.

Sedeo, sedere [sedebit] can have connotations like “sit on the throne”, “linger”, “remain still”, etc.
