Vanity: Is Laura Bush of Mexican Descent?
An un-named Mexican National | colorcountry

Posted on 10/04/2005 9:16:37 AM PDT by colorcountry

A Mexican National just came into my office to see if I wanted to sell one of our company trucks. He noticed the RNC picture of President and Mrs. Bush hanging in a prominent place on my wall.

“You know, Mrs. Bush is Mexican,” he said.

He continued with a story about her absent Mexican father. He even told me the town he hailed from (but I couldn’t understand his broken English.)

I don’t know about Laura’s heritage, but I thought it interesting that this is what he believed. Is this a widespread urban legend amongst the Mexicans? Is there any truth to the legend?

It doesn’t matter one way of the other. I just wondered what freepers know or have heard...

Last night I thought I head Hannity say his parents were immigrants from Mexico. Wife said she was not sure, but it sounded like he had.

"I'm of Welsh descent. What does it matter as long as we are Americans?"

I think it matters in that it indicates that the Bush sons were raised to be open minded in spite of the whole family going to Yale and summering in Kennebunkport.

According to the official White House biography:
Laura Bush was born on November 4, 1946, in Midland, Texas, to Harold and Jenna Welch. Inspired by her second grade teacher, she earned a bachelor of science degree in education from Southern Methodist University in 1968. She taught in public schools in Dallas and Houston. In 1973, she earned a master of library science degree from the University of Texas and worked as a public school librarian. In 1977, she met and married George Walker Bush. They are the parents of twin daughters, Barbara and Jenna, who are named for their grandmothers.

Welch doesn't sound too Mexican.

It is untrue. Her father was Harold Welch, a known Midland Home Builder. There are pictures of him but I don't have one handy. Her mother is Jenna and we have seen plenty of her. Jeb's wife is known to be Mexican. This fellow was mixing up Jeb's wife with George's wife.
