Upon request, I have collected links to many of the earliest threads from September 11, 2001 below. I reviewed threads from the very first FR report (http://www.freeRepublic.com/focus/fr/520255/posts)through thread number 520326. Feel free to add other significant threads, including photo archives. Bumping this thread periodically instead of the original threads will also avoid scaring people with the headlines.
Bookmark this thread, and bump it from time to time when the nation and the press seems to forget why we need resolve in the face of evil. Forgive some of the early misinformation and broken photo links, and recall the horror and fury.

Excellent - we Americans should co-opt the phrase "Never Forget".

Thanks for the excellent TV coverage link.
To: Starrgaizr
Excellent! Many thanks!
By the way, FR is in the sort-of "official" September 11 Web Archive, but as you can see from the link, they only started archiving us in the middle of the afternoon on September 14. So it's a good way to see exactly what was going on here in the days and weeks afterwards, but you can forget about seeing the first 72 hours.

I just read the second one and boy am I crying! It makes me hurt and mad all over again. If there gets to be any squeemishness about the war on terror they just need to run the live feed from the news. I'll never forget seeing that second plane crash into the second tower and realizing that neither had been an accident.

I wish these threads could be published on dead trees. I would like to own a more permanent record.

An awesome collection of links! Thanks!
At first the media went overboard in playing the video over and over and over again .... but now they don't play it enough.

Is there a way to go back and check a certain time on Free Republic archives? For instance, say I wanted to check threads posted Sept 17, about noon. Could I do that?
To: I still care
The only way I can think of is to enter a post URL from one of the 9-11 posts above and increment the thread number upward by a few thousand and keep iterating until you find the right time period. Unless, of course, you can think of a narrow enough search phrase to find something close in the regular search engine. This is how I did the above archive.

I can't bare reading all of these threads as much as I love history. The pain is still too fresh.

Every time I play that Flash montage of 9/11, with Only Time playing on in the background, I can't sleep that night.

Here's one:
Huck's Report from Manhattan.
This was an account of my experiences on 9-11 in lower Manhattan, written and posted on 9-12. On post #85 of that thread, there are some photos I took on 9-11. It took me two months to finally put the pictures up. In the weeks following 9-11, I had had quite enough pictures of that day. But I did finally post mine, so as to complete my report.

Thank you Huck. I was looking for your report yesterday. Glad you made it out ok. There were lots of people here worried about you.

Glad you made it out ok. There were lots of people here worried about you. I know. Here's a thread on that subject:
FReeper Huck Not Heard From - Was Very Close to WTC in Last Post, posted 11:38 EST by HalfIrish. I didn't mean to worry folks. I naturally logged on when I got to my building, and then things got crazy so fast, I didn't have a chance to check in til I got home that night. After 9 am, I didn't even talk to my wife until about 6pm.

Here's another gripping first-hand account from FReeper Tawiskaro.
I Was There: A Glimpse of Hell
He concludes:
I now have a greater role as an American citizento make sure that no one forgets what evil has been done to us. I will not rest until those innocent thousands who died so near to where I stood are avenged.
