The GOP has to go where the votes are instead of the unappeasable "base".

That strategery doesn't appear to be working. AP Poll Notes Decline in Support for Bush

I am shooting them down because the point the finger at one guy for doing what they could have prevented in the first place. This is complete CYA for a bunch of gutless cowards.

...but if it's it a bad idea .. then don't pass it

And, in your opinion, were any of the President's proposals bad ideas?

Karl Rove is not a moron and will tell GW that the illegal alien shamnesty is a non-starter.

Again, you are reading something that's not there.

When Rove said 'trust us, we have a good agenda' and they get people upset about it, they should by all means hammer him when the calls start coming in. Don't you see this as a good thing?

Yeah 1000 "adults". Give me a break. The "base" has made itself irrelevant in presidential politics staring in 1992 with Perot, in 1996 with Perot again and staying at home and in 2000 with PJB and staying at home to the tune of 4 million” true conservatives". Bush may lose this election but he will either lose it or win it without the "base" because once again the "base" is acting as an opposition party. Win or lose, the "base" loses big time.

GASP! .. believe it or not, there were a couple things I didn't agree with him on

It doesn't change the fact that these Congress folks make and pass these bills

If they don't like the President's suggestions .. then don't pass them

Now it's 5:30 here, so really need to head off to bed ..

So when the GOP leadership abandons GOP principles, it is the fault of those who stand by those GOP principles (aka the base) for not following in lockstep?

Remember that old saying, "I didn't leave the Democrat Party, they left me?"

Don't you see this as a good thing?

I have no problem with them telling Rove or the President they don't like their ideas

But they should have done it before they passed the bills

They did that in 1992. The "base" has priced itself out of the market.

again, it's good that this came up during a closed door convention rather than on the floor of the House, where you suggest it take place. Hopefully, it won't come to a public showdown, as you are suggesting. With any favor, the WH will moderate their policy to the right after this.

You bushbots can't have it both ways. We have been yelling about the WH's leftward drift and you guys are all upset about it. Now, the House is responding, and you guys are blaming them for the leftward drift.

Is Bush like the right hand of God for you? Jesus's clone? He's fallible, so are these guys in the House. Just be glad that someone is listening to us.

I'm part of President Bush's base, as are my 5 sisters, and about 40 voting age nieces/nephews/cousins. I haven't been polled and neither have they, but were that to happen, we would NOT be a part of that decline in support. All of us strongly support his re-election.

I understand that you don't like or appreciate "the base," nor do you find them relevant. I get that.
It seems to me that the base was liked and appreciated and relevant in 2000. Has the tent become smaller?
