I am just wondering if others have the same thoughts, really. Do you find it offensive?

Look at all of those people around the funeral home. It seems so right that a crowd is there....it seems that more are arriving every minute.

The man who brought strength and courage to the Presidency after the scandel of watergate and the pathetic leadership of Carter. The man who defeated the soviet union. The man who turned around this nation and brought back our love of country. A great man who will live beside Washington, Madison, Adams, Jefferson, Lincoln and Roosevelt.

No flame, dear :D hugshugskisskiss!!

...just pity for your shriveled soul.

I remember 8th grade, a stormy afternoon hearing that the President had been shot. I remember all the reports of his ebullient humor and recovery.

I remember the senior field trip to see his second inauguration...and how it became so cold that we went home with buttons that said "I was CLOSEUP to the 1984 Inauguration Freeze-Out".

I remember the Space Shuttle Challenger and how he had found the absolute perfect poem to recite at the memorial.

I remember always the cheer he left with his audience every time he spoke to the American people...and how vastly different he was from the four years of Carter.

Yes, I remember the difference he made, even if I was not completely appreciative of his political achievements. I remember thinking he was like a grandpa who stepped in front of the whining uncle and leaned over to tell you how good it was to be an American.

If you think that is hokey, then you are too young. That meant a world of difference after a decade of outright gloom, after going through the nation's bicentennial year, 1976, and wondering what the heck was wrong with people.

My small tribute

Mr. President,
Although I never lived through your Presidency, I was born in 1987, you have impacted my life in ways you might never know, and I might not find out for a while. Thank you, from a 16 year old Republican, who has looked up to you since 2000 (the birth of my political life), for all that you did, and all that you helped cause. You will NEVER be forgotten.

"Public servants say, always with the best of intentions, "What greater service we could render if only we had a little more money and a little more power." But the truth is that outside of its legitimate function, government does nothing as well or as economically as the private sector."

Wirestripper, I am very moved by your story. I deeply thank you for sharing it with me. I hope your life continued on that much brighter path and that you are happy today. While I grieve so at his death, I am happy we had him for a little while and that his greatness lifted so many of us up. BTW, tears are flowing as I write these words. God bless you, Wirestripper.

In the descriptions of President Reagan's character...principled, faith-based, determined to do the right thing, no matter the prevailing winds of thought, unafraid of press, etc....we find also in President Bush.

Incredibly well-put. Thank you!

I did not think much about politics in the early 1980's. I was like many people downriver and had voted Democrat because my parents were Democrats. I had voted for Jimmy Carter in 1980. I was raising a family, 3rd child was born in '82, and was working long hours. I can't remember the day in the early 80's, but President Reagan was giving a speech in the Lincoln Park, Michigan Sears shopping center and I was in the crowd to listen to him. On a rainy night, that one live speech, changed my life. I started paying attention to politics, voted for President Reagan when he ran for the 2nd term and have never again voted for a Democrat. The optimism that President Reagan conveyed completely mirrored the feeling I had and still have when I wake up every day. The greatness of life, of being alive, of living in The United States of America was a message that I will carry with me the rest of my life.

Thank you President Reagan

The relationships between humans is so versatile. I look at RR/NR as very good/healty. Maybe dependent? okay. Love is that way. they fed & enabled each other to greatness. There is nothing wrong with that. as a female with love stories of the past and as a therapist who has "seen it all"... let us never discount the type of relationship of men & women that will generate greatness.

God bless you Conservababe.. and God bless Nancy & children as the difficult & hectic days ahead confront them

Hold onto that hug until I can give it to you personally when I might be in your area later this year.

What a man RR was.. and now is in the presence of God. Life gets very tough sometimes, Dog. I really (and I mean really) do not look at death as a problem/disaster. But I see it as a wonderful transition/graduation, if you will, to the wonderful future promised to we believers.

PTL..RR has made the transition.
