Open Letter to Senator Frist about the Chairmanship of the Judiciary Committee

Senator Frist,

I implore you not to allow Senator Specter to become chairman of the Judiciary. His recent arrogance about judges that President Bush should and should not appoint is feckless liberalism at its worst. The assumptive power he pretends to own is not his yet and should not be his.

As a Republican volunteer in Virginia and Florida I would be sorely disappointed if Specter is put in as the Chairman. We worked countless hours to elect President Bush and for specific reasons. The obligation of the ruling majority is to listen to the people who put you there. Please do not mistake our current enthusiasm and support for the Republican victory as license to ignore our base values. We will not soon forget such an outrage.

On a lighter note: Congratulations for the well deserved victory. We are amazed at the courage and hours you and your colleagues put in for this election. It is well deserved!

Justin Hart

I've been against Specter all along. If they can straighten this out and work with Specter to appoint decent, conservative, pro-life judges, fine. Either way works for me.

Either Specter plays ball, or he's out. As long as that's understood.

But we have good reasons to be suspicious. He has let down his own team again and again in the clinch. His agreement to cooperate would have to be nailed down and watertight.

That's a good letter. One thing that has amazed me is that the Democrats will use a litmus test of making sure that no pro life judges get appointed. Meanwhile the Republican are not allowed to have a litmus test in support of pro life appointments or a litmus test against pro choice appointments. Either both parties should be able to use litmus tests or neither should.

The problem is if Specter is denied the Chair, he may well decide to flip suits or Jeffords it. It isn't quite as simple as just denying him a slot that he would ordinarily assume.

If he does let him go, he isn't really a republican anyway and is opposed to pro life appointments so he'd probably vote against us most of the time anyway. So, let him desert to the other side.

I went to Bill Frist's Senate website and sent an e-mail. The site says that snail mail letters are not processed for a couple of weeks.

Post Script: I am a California conservative Republican - I have no representation in the US Senate.

How would things differ if Specter chooses to officially announce his true party affiliation? He would find himself in the minority party and be stripped of any real power. On a lesser note, he would probably have to move to a smaller office too.

He must have reserved the right to revise and extend his reparks.

Honestly, I was thinking more about how the MSM would play this up, but after the results of Tuesday, it is apparent to me that very few rational people believe a word uttered by a Rather or written by the NYT.

On second thought, let Specter move to the Dems. I'll make a note to myself to not give any consideration to the MSM spin of any future political action. They are now irrelevant in the national debate.

I am one PA conservative who is not the least bit surprised by Specter's comments. Even if he was misquoted (and we know the press would never do that), it is exactly how he thinks. Specter is incredibly arrogant and has said he will not hesitate to block the President's pro-life nominees. Spector only won the primary because the labor unions organized a massive drive for their members to change party affiliation to vote in the primary, then change back again. The majority of conservatives voted the Constitution party candidate for senate.

Suits me. How does that hurt us?

We need to double our efforts to rid the Judiciary Committe of this man.
