Michelle Malkin: The Wonkette-ization of Laura Bush
Michelle Malkin ^ | May 3, 2005 | Michelle Malkin

Posted on 05/03/2005 2:10:11 PM PDT by EveningStar

Most of Mrs. Bush's humor at the correspondents' dinner was just right: Edgy but not over the edge. But I think the stripper and horse jokes were totally beneath her.

Just put it to the other-shoe test: If it were Teresa Heinz Kerry standing up on the dais telling the same jokes, the conservative commentariat would be buzzing for the rest of the year about what a tasteless skank she is.

You've revised and extended your remarks, and taken most of the sharp edge off of them.

I'm still not too fond of the go to hell recommendation.

There is a difference telling an Aggie joke at a late Saturday night roast banquet that is supposedly 'off the record' and saying the same thing at a regular social function.

Aggie jokes can be told anywhere.......

My whole family watched and we thought it was hysterical. My teens didn't find anything sordid, dirty or distasteful. Why would they?

It's a crazy world out there!

Once words have left the mouth or in this case the fingertips it is hard to take them back.

Haven't you heard? They're not "real, true" Christians.

Compromising and finding a middle ground are characteristics of politics. Most of Bush's key advisers have long standing membership in the Beltway establishment, in the cases of Rumsfeld and Cheney, dating back to the Ford Administration. Bush's father was inclined to this course. Unfortunately, the deals that led to the 1990 tax hikes helped engender the recession that caused his re-election attempt to fail.

However, in fairness it must be admitted that the GOP leadership in Congress has been ineffectual. The President's ratings are declining, and he is a lame duck. The Administration may not be made up of desperate housewives, but there may be a high degree of concern that President Bush's second term will be as weak as Reagan's second term. So Laura Bush's bawdy humor may be a political equivalent of a strategy change. Hopefully, it is not a desperation "Hail Mary" play.

There are many kinds of conservatives, social, religious, economic, etc. all have their reasons to consider themselves conservatives and together we form a base. None of us should consider ourselves the soul driving force behind the party and trying to do so only rips us apart.

We need tolerance within the party, not stupidity or small minded thinkers out front making us all look bad. To waste the time to trash Laura proves we must control the extremists no matter who they are from running the ship aground.

First of all you know I'm not RR. Secondly, I am close to some that are. That is what they have told me. Also, listen to Christian talk radio in your area. Listen closely.

Yes, feminazis who hate real families have been trolling our Republican Party since Lincoln. Susan B. Anthony did the same until she gave up and promoted lynchings in the South with George Train.
