80% of Potential SCOTUS Nominees on W's List Decline His Offer
Fox News | 10-11-05 | freedom4me

Posted on 10/11/2005 9:08:44 PM PDT by freedom4me

During the 11:00 p.m. (CST) newsbreak, Donna Fuducia reported that Karl Rove told James Dobson that 80% of the potential SCOTUS nominees on the President's list declined his offer because of they didn't want to undergo the grueling confirmation process. Perhaps this sheds new light on the reason why W chose Miers.

When GWB was Governor he called her a pit bull in size 6 shoes.

The way things are going for her, she's going to need some loafers.

No, wrong. Why should these people suffer for deciding in favor of their families. The fact is, it is none of our business. These people have the right to make these decisions without our scorn or anger.

The fact that Miers IS the remaining 20% is the reason that I am supporting her if she doesn't back out.

Connie Callahan? I don't know anything about her, but her name was mentioned and all the conservative lawyer types said she was a known moderate. I believe she would be GWB next choice if H. Miers goes down.

Everyone seems to be assuming that if Miers goes down, we'll end up with a more Conservative and/or more originalist candidate. I am afraid we'd end up with a repeat of the Bork / Ginsberg / Kennedy debacle.

In your hypothetical situation, what would your legal or Constitutional background be??????????? What kind of resume would you need to make it to the president's short list??????

Based on what I've seen, just be his buddy, it seems. If I get his trust, and am not a blooming idiot, I think I have a chance...

I don't have any legal degress but I do have a PhD in logic. Does that count? :D

I still don't think so.

Notice how he used the word cut:

He also made it clear that the President was looking for a certain kind of candidate, namely a woman to replace Justice O’Connor. And you can imagine what that did to the short list. That cut it ... That cut it by 80 percent right there.

If this is true and I don't believe it then it says more about Bush's leadership skills the anything else.

Who is going to refuse to serve if asked by the President of the United States. I did not like Bill Clinton but had he asked me to serve I would, no one turns down the president of the United States when he personally asks for thier service.

Did you read Dan's post above yours? #43?

Interesting.

Two conversations with her... two different replies from her.

We tend to forget the politically correct rinos. They don't do what GW tells them. Republican appointments to SCOTUS have been disappointing. Only way we'll find out about this one is if she's confirmed. Personally I'd like to see a constitutional scholar who is not a judge or a shark...er.. I mean an attorney.

I doubt it's true, but even assuming it is, it makes Miers more courageous than 80% of the potential nominees.

Indeed. Good point. IF TRUE.

That's my first take too. The list shrunk 80% when it was reduced from mixed-sex to female-only.

But the syntax of the statements is awkward, becuse he talks about drop outs in the middle.
