RICHMOND -- A new Virginia law that bars illegal aliens from receiving state-funded benefits goes into effect tomorrow. The law restricts anybody without a Social Security number from receiving Medicaid, temporary assistance for needy families, and help from several other state and local programs. Supporters say the measure could save the state millions. "A lot of us were saying, instead of raising taxes, why don't we start prioritizing where we're spending our existing money," said Delegate David B. Albo, Fairfax Republican, who sponsored the bill. "One of the things we found was the state was not checking for legal presence for Medicaid."

Tells them to go home or to Boulder, Colorado?
Yeah - The waiting rooms at every emergency center in Northern Virginia are always packed with Mexicans coughing, with very little evidence of an injury that would be considered an "emergency." When the hospitals determine that it's not a true emergency, I think they're allowed to bill the patient - but very few "patients" pay for the services rendered, thus passing the bill on to people who use the hospital's services lawfully. I do think the hospitals are allowed to pass this loss on to the Federal government, under recent legislation passed by Congress, but I may be wrong...
Thanks, I appreciate both the respect and the view point. I just closed on a house yesterday and the process was a whole lot different than my previous home buying experience. I'm a permanent resident alien, not a citizen yet. I certainly felt the difference in scrutiny. I welcomed it and applaud MC, but I do realize that there's a lot that I don't know.
Arizona's Prop 200 is still standing, isn't it?
Pandering or not, it's a good move. Now if the Feds will just sign on.
I suppose it probably depends on the lender. Congratulations!
Courts re-open on Tuesday..
.
Finally, someone exercises some guts and good sense.
Wow! Very good!
About illegals being mainstream, yes, I know what you mean. I'm a pharm. sales rep.. I see clinics full of illegals from Mexico that are there for assistance. Some of the kindest, most benevolent people are sickened to their stomachs with the fraud. A nurse told me that one family of 6 listed their income as $33/month. The most bizzare thing is the parking lot. Every car there is huge - we're talking Dodge Durango huge. Out jumps some woman with a younger woman (gross exaggeration - mostly adolescent girls), pregnant.
They have no compunctions at all about getting pregnant. It's based on false information that the baby is an instant American and then can legitimize mama right away upon it's arrival.
You are right, I believe the rules state that after 24 hours it is ok to repost an article. Some people though have to be posting police don't you know.
That goes for most poverty ridden uneducated groups, not just illegals.
Welfare checks go up with each new baby too, you know. And as I saw one welfare woman say, the longer you can keep them on strictly breast milk, with no food, the longer you have "free money", and don't have to spend anything on the kid.
Such a lovely, useful segment of society.
I have an Vietnamese co-worker, now American citizen. I wouldn't have not he wasn't born here in US. He just got back from Iraq where he volenteered for active duty (he was in Army reserve).
All the Mexicans I work with and there are hundreds ask me why I have US flag on my work uniform.
I can definitely tell the difference between the two.
You are right that a lot of them have fake SSNs- but some banks and other lenders do not require illegals to have SSN. Illegals can get a TPIN number issued by our government and they use that to have bank accounts and get loans.
Is that Lash LaRue?
Anyone want to change banks?????
IRS yesterday reported that last year 9 million payee's taxes were withheld where the SSN numbers did not match the name. As Tancredo said, it is time to pursue the employer who knowingly is breaking the laws of our nation.
California did. The will of the people (Prop. 87) was set aside by a federal judge and the opportunity to challenge the decision was deep-sixed by Democrat Gov. Gray Davis.
I predict something similar will happen in VA.
Hi sweetliberty! Happy Ney Year!
I posted the following on another thread, with the same title.
"Before "it was easier just to look the other way," Mr. Mehlman said. "What's happening now in Virginia and other places is the cost of looking away has become prohibitive."
As a proud Virginian, I couldn't be happer about this! This June I went to DMV to renew my drivers license and had to show "proof of presence". I used a 1972, expired Passport....boy, did I look good back then! Just in case, I took along a real birth certificate with a raised seal. They do check your social security number with the Social Security Administration.
Yes, the illegals will be leaving Virginia, probably heading to the states that cater to them.
