ST. LOUIS - The first humans to spread across North America may have been seal hunters from France and Spain.
This runs counter to the long-held belief that the first human entry into the Americas was a crossing of a land-ice bridge that spanned the Bering Strait about 13,500 years ago.
The new thinking was outlined here Sunday at the annual meeting of the American Association for the Advancement of Science.
Recent studies have suggested that the glaciers that helped form the bridge connecting Siberia and Alaska began receding around 17,000 to 13,000 years ago, leaving very little chance that people walked from one continent to the other.
Also, when archaeologist Dennis Stanford of the Smithsonian Institution places American spearheads, called Clovis points, side-by-side with Siberian points, he sees a divergence of many characteristics.

This sort of reminds me of the lady who said humans evolved from dolphins. With one "piece" of the puzzle, non-substantiated assertions are made.
I've been watching this issue unfold for several years. The Kennewick Man is the trigger to this debate and really heated the atmosphere. Without the completed DNA tests...we are left with the strong possibility that around 7000 years ago...a non-Indian existed in the Pacific northwest. The amusing part of this...is that numerous tribes have attempted to grab Kennewick and forbid DNA testing. Reason: if you have one shred of evidence that shows white Europeans actually were here...then the "holy grail" of the Indian empire is blown.
In the last five year...this whole issue goes into overdrive with a significant find in Penn...which leads historians to a slightly different history...not only did Asians cross over the Alaskan or Canadian region....but White Europeans also made their way over. At some point...one group met another...in whatever numbers...and the lesser was eridicated from the American landscape. We could be very well talking about two native American groups (European and Asian) who met in the eastern US...and with the Asian group being more aggressive and warlike...they simply annihilated a lesser group of Europeans, and assimilated what remained into their tribes.
It changes history to great extent. But a similiar arguement is brewing over Chinese exploration of the Pacific in the early 1400's....and they may have discovered America 70 years prior to Columbus. Enough evidence exists which forces everyone to go back to the drawingboard.
By 2010...we may have two major parts of American history...which may have to be rewritten...with both adults and children learning a vastly different past.
This is not exactly a new theory.

Interesting in this regard is the fact that, after nine years of litigation, the courts have finally lifted prohibitions on examination of the remains of Kennewick Man. Since July, 2005, these remains have been a subject of study for scientists at the Burke Museum of Natural History, Seattle.
We already have a bandwagon and a magazine. We just need a theme song now.

So no one could possibly have made it across the Bering Strait because the water wasn't frozen; therefore the likely scenario is that people came to the Americas from Europe, across the Atlantic in boats. Sounds like good, solid logic to me.
I demand reparations! Or you can just give me 5% of Foxwoods.

Secondly, I think that land-bridge theory is a real diaper-load of misinformation.
Skulls of euro-trash have been found predating most of my red skinned cousins. Just because some of my more misguided Northwestern U.S. cousins wanted to claim those lost bones doesn't make them right. Get over it! They (first euro-trash): came, made no difference, did not survive, and did not propagate. So what?
The truth be told, CHINESE seafarers more than likely traded with my cousins on the West Coast long before Jesus was nailed to the tree.
And that land-bridge theory? Total arrogance.
Who is truly informed enough to say my distant ancestors (and maybe yours) didn't PADDLE or SAIL across the Bering Strait, or walk across the ice? There is no evidence of a LAND bridge.

In Heavener, Oklahoma there is evidence of European explorers predating Columbus. The Heavener Runestone has markings made by Vikings.
Could have been the result of the Great Flood from the days of Noah.
A question I would like answered is how did the Hawaiian natives come to exist? If the Japanese or some other Asian peoples were able to reach Hawaii by crossing the Pacific then it would reason that Europeans could cross the Atlantic, especially since both were seafaring people and the distance is about half of what the Asians would have had to cross to reach Hawaii.
I also think it would be entirely possible for Egyptians to travel to West Africa and sail or row to South America and Central America.
