This is just a drill: Thanks to John McCain, Free Republic will shut down tomorrow at high noon for
Free Republic ^

Now hear this:

Thanks to John McCain, Free Republic will shut down tomorrow at high noon for 30 days. No non government approved electioneering messages may be transmitted over the internet for the 30 days immediately preceding a primary election.

That is all.

The above exercise was just a drill. But if John McCain has his way with his proposed rules for regulating political free speech on the internet, this is how we will be forced to operate in the coming election cycle and all election cycles in the future until we can get the unconstitutional McCain-Feingold act repealed.

If McLame ever read the Constitution he'd be shocked! Free speech? Even what is called core free speech. This man is dangerous!

Jim:

The home page (mission statement) makes it clear that Free Republic is a CONSERVATIVE FORUM.

The word "Republican" does not appear in your mission statement.

How can a forum that promotes limited government and fighting socialism be grouped with the others? We are not a RNC organization nor are we a DNC organization.

Jim?

Anybody?

DAMN, I hate it when people speak the truth!

No doubt...if a dem was in the WH when McSlime/Fiendgold was passed people would have been calling for action and heads on stakes a long time ago. Now that it has reached an "intrusiveness" and unConstitutional critical mass, people here are scattering and bellowing like a bunch of hyperactive chickens. The hypocrisy is laughable.

When will people learn? If you give the government the power to intrude and regulate anything, it will eventually seek to expand its powers to intrude and regulate that "thing" to the nth degree...it applies to BOTH parties FYI. Oh, and I'd hate to say it, but we're in for another round of "this" re: the Patriot Act once a different administration gets into the WH IMO.

Oh, and before someone comes in and flames away at this post...unless you can give a sensible reason why Dubya has not used his veto pen AT all since he was in office, don't bother me with emotional claptrap and intellectually dishonest chutzpah.

"Perhaps followed by further proposed legislation to block such sites."

It wouldn't surprise me. Perhaps it will be called the "Internet Freedom Act of 2008."

The only possible reason I can think that has credibility is he knew in order to actually fight a literal war against these terrorists killers, he had to give the big spenders and power grabbers in Congress what they wanted.

We see what even those that voted to give him authority to literally fight, actually pretend they were lied to for their votes.

At least we can slow it down a bit, I think that if not for such wonderful places as FR, your prediction might have already come to fruition.

Make no mistake...McCain and Hillary Clinton will push this to the max.....

Absolutely, they will. They aren't stupid. They saw how much damage the uncontrolled Internet inflicted on John Kerry and his candidacy. And they know they are vunerable to the same unless they can get a gatekeeper in place sooner, rather than later.

I wouldn't be surprised to hear that Senator Clinton has recommended Jamie Gorelick as the first Commissioner of the Internet. [The Clinton's owe Gorelick big-time for her efforts to deflect the 9-11 Commission and quell Able Danger.]

30 DAYS?!?!

That's worse than what they predicted for the Y2K meltdown.

We need to develop a contingency plan... the Yahoo! message board sucks.

So, what have you done about it?

What would you want me to do about it? I don't vote for the one party system if that's what you mean. I vote my conscience instead of merely casting a vote so the 'other guy' won't get in. If no one is on the ticket that I can support I either leave it blank or write in a candidate. Of course this was how it was intended to be by the Framers. But please throw up the standard 'You're helping the Democrats' or 'Your vote doesn't count' that usually comes from the faithful. We shouldn't be directly voting for Senators in the first place.

So if I start (or [participate in) a NG ON Yahoo, etc. that discusses political views similar to FR, and all the FReepers come over there (during the 30 day shut-down), are we all in violation of the law?
