"A HOUSE DIVIDED" - Pukin's FReeperversary Rant

"A house divided against itself cannot stand." – Abraham Lincoln, 1858

It is getting somewhat strange around these parts when not only the President, but yesterday the First Lady was personally attacked by someone claiming to be a ‘Conservative’. Can there be any doubt that there are forces among us looking to drive a wedge between us?

A few weeks ago, this forum’s owner attempted to remind all of us of the big picture, that regardless of any personal animosity towards the President or Republican Party over their adherence to Conservative principles, that they are still a clear choice over the alternative Democrat Party rule. At that time, I assumed that FReeper-sanity had been restored, and that some of the negative rhetoric aimed at those in Washington D.C. would be dialed back.

Free Republic is a political forum with a proud history and vision, responsible for dragging Dan Rather from his post, and providing countless radio-talk shows with their daily talking points. FReepers are unique in their determination and energy towards protecting and defending the goals of our Founding Fathers.

We are also quite a powder keg of emotion and anticipation, expecting our Republican majorities to take advantage of this opportunity to make permanent gains in our Conservative agenda. Some might argue that this opportunity has been squandered, but those persons would be ignorant of history, lacking understanding that change cannot occur overnight in Washington, and that this is the way our Founders designed our Republic.

In frustration, impatience, and ignorance, we have allowed this forum to become a haven for those who do not share our Conservative goals. I do not blame our enemies anymore then I would blame a scorpion for stinging me. If anger and stupidity were one’s nature, I would expect the trolls that infect this forum to be angry and stupid consistently, which also makes them somewhat easy to detect.

The trolls are not the problem, though. The problem is that so many of us are allowing ourselves to be taken in by those who seek only to prevent us from going to the polls in November to keep their stinking hands off our government for another term. There can be no doubt, that no matter how disappointing our current government has been in promoting the Conservative agenda, that the alternative, enabled by our staying home will be MUCH worse.

The way to deal with Republicans who have actively worked against our goals is to defeat them in Primary elections. We do not even have to defeat them all, only enough of them to send the message that we will indeed target them if they work against our agenda. It should be the goal of EVERY conservative to see that Lincoln Chaffee is defeated in November. His seat is one we can afford to lose. Were I a Rhode Island resident, I would vote for the Democrat if only to send a message to Snowe, Hagel, Collins, Graham, and especially that bastard Specter that their primaries just got a lot tougher.

We only need to get one of them, and Chaffee is the one to get. It does not really matter if a Democrat takes his seat; he will be junior and mute as long as we maintain our overall majority in the Senate.

The one thing that bothers me here like nothing else, is the simple disrespect of the President. Am I am Bush-Bot? Damn straight I am. If you want to know why, click on my handle to read Southack’s excellent list of Bush’s accomplishments in office. But if Bush had done almost nothing in office, it would be no excuse for some of the slights and disrespect he has received from some of us on this forum.

Some of the things I have read here this past week match in tone what one can find on our favorite Democrat sewer site. Someone calling himself or herself a FReeper was promoting shooting aliens at the border until they stopped coming. Is that what we are about? Obviously not, and that so-called Conservative has been eliminated from this forum.

I think it is important to remember that you and I have just as much responsibility as George Bush does in changing our culture to better reflect Conservative values. Right now, this very moment, Conservatives have the government they deserve. We put them there. They are not our mommies and daddies sent out to bring home our Conservative bread. That responsibility lies with all of us. These Republicans represent us, they don’t serve us. Our job is to pick the best individual and send him/her to Washington in the hope that their CHARACTER will see them through.

This is why it is such a nutty thing to consider punishing the Republican party, when we should be letting them know that we’ve got their back, but if they cant do the job, we will replace them with ANOTHER Republican, instead of handing the reigns of government to the party of anger, hopelessness and despair. We sometimes like to think that those people we send to Washington are different from us, that they are capable of meeting our every need and desire.

I want every one of you to think about what you would consider to be your perfect mate. Maybe some of you think you have found that person. If you are married and totally in love with another person, that is great. Now I want to ask you to think about the last time that person you love, who is PERFECT for you, completely pissed you off. Remember, this is your perfect mate, your one true love. Do they do everything you want them to do? Obey your every desire? If you answer yes, I am going to put you on my troll list.

Those people in Washington do not even cut your lawn, yet you expect perfection. Get over it.

I am issuing a challenge to every person who considers him or her to be a Conservative; why don’t we all commit to a return to HONOR? Do we honor our Conservative agenda when we comport ourselves in disgraceful ways? Is it an honorable thing to suggest that our President is a moron, as I read here a few days ago? Is it honorable to attack Laura Bush or any other person representing true Conservative values?

Some of you might argue that George Bush is not representing Conservative values to your liking. I would remind you that the first thing Bush said upon taking office, is that he was going to be President of ALL the people, not just some. You know that if you followed Bush from the beginning that he campaigned of the very immigration platform he is defending right now. Did you vote for him? Yeah?

If you have ever had a steak at a Ruth’s Chris restaurant, you know that sometimes they bring that wonderful steak to your table with a sprig of parsley on it. I hate parsley. Hate it. If I were to treat my steak the way some of us want to treat our President, I would have to throw out the steak, due to that nasty parsley that comes with it. I can deal with the parsley to get the steak, and that is what I am asking FReepers to do.

Expecting perfection from any person, group or team is a recipe for disaster. George W. Bush is my president. You can disagree with him, you can blame him for your problems if that is your desire. If you disrespect his office, his service, his risking his life to be with our troops in Iraq, his steadfast desire to bring a new tone to Washington, or if you just like the way he keeps Democrats so pissed off they lose their minds on a regular basis, I ask you to treat him and his wife with respect and cut the personal attacks. If you call him ‘Shrub’ or ‘Jorge’ consider yourself my enemy.

Right now, our real enemy are the Main Stream Media, the Democrat Party, and all who follow and support them. If you want to jump-ugly on someone, why not start with those leaky bastards and give our side a break?

Do it for Pukin.

I knew that you could.

Thank you.
I've been hanging around this place for 3-4 years. I seldom post. Have posted 1-2 articles, and have never posted a vanity that I can remember. The last month or so has made me question why I spend so much time here. If the people on this forum, who I believed were the spine of the conservative movement in this country, could break apart and collapse this quickly, then what do we have to anchor ourselves to.
To open Breaking News (my first stop everyday), and see your comments there as a beacon in the dark, gives me new hope.
Thank you again.

You say that but you really do not mean it. You say it now, while the going is good. Just how long will the going be good?

The only exception I'll take with your reply is to note that "tax hawks," "pro-lifers" and what you're terming as "border bots" are not mutually exclusive groups. I'll venture a guess, based upon many people in my acquaintance, that you're dealing with all three qualities, rolled into one person, in close to a majority of instances, in border states at least.

Let her know about the environmental "disaster" her non-earth-friendly car car will create in a serious accident.

She is already a disaster. A good friend, though. Just painfully misguided. She live in U City (Which my buddy calls Red Square)and drives about 15 miles one way to work. She says she gets about 25-30 MPG. When I asked how that was different from, say a Geo Metro or a Yugo, she said its different because Im doing my part! Total puppet. I wont buy a hybrid because I need a big vehicle, my gear and the places we take it, like the woods, the lake, the backroads, isnt conducive to a car like hers. Plus, I want to arrive at the fishin hole in a big gas guzzling, terrorist supporting vehicle. After all, nothing drives the left crazier than someone who catches and releases fish. Ill save that story for another time, but it was classic granola-speak...

The Pennsylvania republicans were kicked out for suggestinga raise for themselves.

Suggesting? The sorry SOBs actually gave themselves one in violation of the state Constitution (raises take effect after the election, this one was immediate) which was upheld by our sorry SOB judges because the legislature gave them a raise in the SAME BILL.

The first sitting Supreme Court justice to be recalled happened last November because of it.

I have 2 national IDs, a passport and a ss card. I don't need a third.

Does it change your position if that whole stack of ID's is replaced by one....instead of adding to the ones you currently have?

I don't know what is so difficult to understand. Anyone can disagree with the President, but when it goes off into personal attacks that make this forum resemble the DU crowd, you put yourself at risk. What is unclear about that?

I disagree with your methods as they are too dangerous for the battles we are facing.

We don't need 10% here quitting, 10% there quitting - we need all working toward our goals. There has to be a way to get the word to the party without the silly tantrums and losing of elections as they are far too costly in today's environment. We are not under the former Pres. Bush's America - we have more enemies than we can handle.

I refer you to Halgr's post with his theory of our real situation and it is something to think about.

Halgr's post #2039

"Yes I am enraged over our policy of kowtowing to Mexico and terrible border security and Immigration realities that are an embarrasment.

However, I have come to the conclusion these last several years that there is a darker issue afoot.

The Leftist/Communists/NWO aren't dummys, they have a well planned and so far well implimented agenda that is taking the Constitution and America down. (Think NEA, ACLU, The Media et el)

For a while, I thought that Bush wasn't a part of that "Conspiracy"....I let my idealism and patriotism get the best of me especially after 9-11...I wanted to believe that Bush was an honorable and rightous man, above the corruption and beyond the conspiracy.

Too many things that he has done and said of late have convinced me otherwise now....and I am angry not only with the situation but with myself for allowing myself to be suckered in.....and angry that things are worse than they appear on the surface....and that my children and grandchildren are going to see America dismantled....taken to a second or third world position.

And then I am angry with myself for my lack of Faith.....not consistantly believing that God is indeed IN CONTROL and that He is going to use this evil for His Own Eternal Purposes and Prophetic Fulfillment....I forget that all too often.

The Patriot Act, the National ID card, etc....have all been or will be snuck in on the tail of public outcry...."They" did and are doing a great job of getting us closer to 1984 (Orwell) and we conservatives for the most part remain oblivious, naive and unorganized.

But the bad guys are smarter than we think...they have infiltrated even the hallowed halls of conservatism so that there is no chance of organizing or fighting the wave as it washes over us for they are everywhere and they know the who, where and why of true American Patriots....they are just accumulating data for that time when they can take us out....and we will be powerless and probably by that time, weaponless too.

I think their game plan now is to eradicate the "Middle Class"....bring wages down to the point where "we" are scrounging to survive too exhausted to voice our malcontent.
(Think NAFTA)

I've seen articles about the NWO (Council of Foreign Relations) describing a North America somewhat like the EU....to a great extent Borderless....so that America gets watered down to such an extent as to vanish. I think there is even a plan to begin to impliment this in 2010!

I'll even come further out from underneath my rock and say that the arabs are being used, set up and exploited and yes radical islam is being fanned like a fire....but alas they are not the real enemy...just an accessory to bring whatever plans the real bad guys have, to fruition. (Think NeoCons)

Also I believe that the current adversarial battle between republicans and democrats...it's all a show, smoke and mirrors to keep us from seeing the real "man" behind the curtain."

"My comment is simple. It means punishing the party which is closest to conservatives' positions is INSANITY."

Is that our new standard? Close?

Let's say we go with that. I have a new question:

How far away from conservative principles should we be in your opinion before we can raise some sort of objection in a public forum?

Right now, there are republicans that where the R on the back of their name the way someone would wear a NY Yankee's ballcap - which is to say, that just because you are wearing the cap, doesn't mean you play for that team, or even root for them.

"Many more Republicans than in Colorado, or Texas, or any other state for that matter."

That happens to be the inevitable result of having the largest population of any state in the nation. You have more people than Colorado and Texas combined. You've probably got more Communists than any other state either, but that doesn't make you a Communist state. Look, I don't blame Republicans in California for our nation's problems. But I find it ironic when people from California blame the nation for their problems. You reap what you sow, and as long as Californian's keep sending people like Pelosi, Boxer and Feinstein to Congress, you're sowing weeds, and the rest of the nation can't help you out.

And I don't smoke.

"I disagree with your methods as they are too dangerous for the battles we are facing."

Vicomte13's method is to point out a dangerous blind spot, and how to avoid going over a cliff as a result. How would giving the "fence" (and not just a partial one) to this group, in order to avoid a big problem in the fall and possibly 2008, be dangerous for the battles we are facing? It would heal a dangerous rift, just as Alito's nomination healed a dangerous rift.

Trust me FRiend, moderating is a hard job and the last thing a mod will put up with is someone monday morning quarterbacking their very hard decisions.

Sheesh! You make it sound like you're the President sending the troops into Iraq.

I think you are not alone in that jackson but I really think that this thing cannot be swept under the rug anymore. I could see this turning into a oust the encumbant election if they do nothing.

That cannot be good for either anyone. I will just keep my hopes high that progress will come soon. If it doesn't....well I guess I just keep my boycot of Lowes and sears stores going ;)

Since the large illegal alien street demonstrations there has been a lot of complaining about the Pres. It is mostly misguided complaining. The Pres must have funding from Congress before he can do much besides a temporary and limited assignment of troops in some of the border areas.

It's the same with Iran. And it will be the same as the economy gradually turns south. The Pres cannot just 'take care' of these problems. Most all Federal action begins with Congress. The Pres administers what Congress funds, and there is no reason why he should be required to have kinglike or other superhuman powers. Requiring that would be giving up our own powers as citizens.

Hold your line Dane and simply deny what I have told you being the reality based truth that it is. After all, denial is what you do best.

Pretend I am telling you something other than the truth all you want to. If you are ever in this neck of the woods stop on by beardstown and have a look for yourself.

Thank you kindly.
I just got sick of hearing the same disrespect for my President (agree with him or not) that I read in PJ's DUmmie FUnnies.
This is a man with character, and morals, and his wife is a true Lady, and they should be afforded the respect the have earned, and deserve.
For goodness sake, this is The leader of the free world, and he still chokes up, and gets misty when he speaks of our brave soldiers. That's not an act, and it speaks volumes to the type of person he is. The opposite are the Clintons, who have openly said they "loathe the military".
I can only imagine the terrible pull at his heart it must be to send our young people into harms way. If for nothing else we should respect him for having to make those decisions every day.
