The FReeper Canteen is asking all FReepers to please keep 68-69TonkinGulfYachtClub in your prayers.
He has suffered a massive stroke and heart attack.
We know that many of you will have questions, but as of right now we don't have any further information.

He spoke to Mr.Tonkin on the phone earlier this morning. He says Mr.Tonkin's speech is slow, but clear. He now has some movement. Please pray for his eye sight that it is fully restored. Stroke wise this early that's very good news. It sounds like the frontal lobe was spared as well which controls behavior IIRC. That can be the hardest part to deal with in stroke patients if that part is effected. This early in the stroke recovery and with what you have said it sounds real promising. You're right he does have a big hill to climb.

Here's the input from Rambette, my lovely wife and a registered nurse:
First, the fact that he is already talking and moving is quite a good sign, especially given how far we've come in treatment for stroke.
Second, an ischemic stroke is far less serious than the hemorrhagic type, so it could have been much worse from the get go.
Also, it's likely that his shoulder pain was referred pain from the beginning of heart trouble. That doesn't matter now, but it's something that Freepers 40 and up should bear in mind if their left shoulder hurts persistently.
