The "bombshell" revelation from last April's National Intelligence Estimate (NIE), which was leaked to the New York Times in September, was that the war in Iraq had resulted in more terrorism, not less. As reported by United Press International's Claude Salhani, "Did we really need 16 intelligence agencies to tell us that? Ten minutes of watching the newscast of your choice, from Al-Jazeera to Fox News, would be enough to convince most observers." But the key question is why the war has provoked the global Jihad.

One answer has to be the influence in the Arab world of the America-
hating network Al-Jazeera. The AIM DVD on "Terror Television" shows film footage of captured terrorists saying they came to Iraq to kill Americans because of the words and images on Al-Jazeera.

PRESS RELEASE SNIPPET: "WASHINGTON, DC. - U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) special agents this morning arrested six illegal aliens who possessed security badges allowing them access to restricted areas within the airport and onto the tarmac.

The illegal aliens were working for T.C. Drywall, Inc., based in Alpharetta, GA.
The aliens were arrested after they were determined to be illegally residing and working in the United States. The arrested men are all citizens of Mexico."

Coalition, Iraqi Forces Detain Terrorists; Iraqis Killed in IED Attack

WASHINGTON, Nov. 29, 2006 – Coalition forces killed six Iraqis in a firefight, and Iraqi forces detained two suspected terrorists in separate operations this week, military officials reported.

Six Iraqis were killed in conjunction with a firefight in the hostile Hamaniyah area of northeastern Ramadi yesterday.

Before dawn, coalition forces discovered an improvised explosive device in Hamaniyah. The patrol spotted two insurgents moving away from the trigger site. The two men took up positions on the roof of a house and observed the coalition forces clearing the explosive device.

As coalition forces cleared the bomb, the insurgents engaged the security element with small-arms fire. After establishing positive identification, coalition forces returned fire with small-arms and machine-gun fire. As the insurgents continued to engage the patrol, coalition forces returned fire with main-tank-gun rounds.

Coalition forces conducted an extensive search of the house and found one boy and five girls, ages ranging from infant to teenaged, dead. One woman injured at the scene refused treatment. According to local residents, the house was a known insurgent safe house. Officials believe one of the insurgents was wounded and other insurgents came to remove him from the scene.

"In a very tragic way, today reminds us that insurgents' actions throughout Iraq are felt by all," coalition spokesman Marine Lt. Col. Bryan Salas said. "Efforts are under way to coordinate and offer available assistance to surviving family members."

In another operation, Iraqi army soldiers of the 2nd Brigade, 9th Iraqi Army Division, detained two local citizens on a motorcycle carrying three mortar rounds and a large sum of money in Taji Nov. 27. The two suspects were placed into custody after allegedly firing two mortar rounds into the 2nd Iraqi Brigade's area of operations. The suspects were passing through an Iraqi checkpoint at the time of their detention. Iraqi army soldiers were conducting a reconnaissance mission in the area after discovering mortar rounds had been fired in their vicinity. The two men were apprehended during this recon.

Elsewhere, five Iraqi civilians were killed and 25 others were injured during an IED attack Nov. 27 in a cell phone store in Muqdadiyah. The attack took place at around 4 p.m., when an undetermined number of insurgent forces entered the cell phone shop, shot and killed the owner, then placed the IED inside the store. The IED exploded when a crowd of civilians gathered near the shop.

The Muqdadiyah Iraqi police responded to the attack, where they found four local civilians dead and 26 injured. Four were treated for minor injuries on site and released, and 21 others were taken to Forward Operating Base Normandy, where they received medical treatment by medics from 6th Battalion, 9th Armored Reconnaissance Squadron, 3rd Heavy Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division. One of the injured civilians died before arriving at the medical facility.

ARTICLE SNIPPET: "One of Iran's most senior clergymen has issued a fatwa on an Azeri writer said to have insulted the Prophet Muhammad.

The call on Muslims to murder Rafiq Tagi, who writes for Azerbaijan's Senet newspaper, echoes the Iranian fatwa against Indian writer Salman Rushdie.

It was issued by the conservative Grand Ayatollah Mohammed Fazel Lankarani."


ARTICLE SNIPPET #2: "They accuse the Azeri writer of portraying Christianity as superior to Islam and Europe as superior to the Middle East.

They allege that he has ridiculed all the sanctities of Islam and done it knowingly, fully aware of the consequences of his action.

In response, Grand Ayatollah Lankarani is said to have issued a fatwa calling for the death of the writer and also the person responsible for publishing his articles.

Earlier, an Iranian cleric had offered his house as a reward to anyone who killed the Azeri writer.

But this latest fatwa comes from one of the dozen or so Grand Ayatollahs in Iran, who has a large following.

An Azerbaijani court sentenced the writer Rafiq and his publisher to two months in jail for an article which was illustrated by the same cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad originally published in Denmark that caused outcry in the Muslim world."

Thanks for the ping. Having been through the Hartsfield-Jackson airport four times since September it doesn't surprise me one bit. It is such a humongous place. One good thing is I always see lots of traveling soldiers there.

5 Russians Detained Over Illegal Purchase of Portable Surface to Air Missiles

Police detained five people trying to sell anti-aircraft missile systems in the South of Russia Monday, the Associated Press reports.

According to the statement of the regional police four Strela 2M missiles were seized from the criminals. The raid took place on Monday in the town of Adler, just south of the resort city of Sochi. Police has opened a criminal case against the criminals who are being accused of smuggling.

The heat-seeking Strela missiles are produced in Russia, Eastern Europe, China, Egypt and elsewhere and are the anti-aircraft weapon of choice for guerrillas, rebel forces and terrorists worldwide. Three years ago, the United States, Russia and 31 other countries declared the Strela missiles, which are small enough to pack in a suitcase, were a serious threat to civil aviation and agreed to take steps to keep terrorists from obtaining them.

Explosives missing at construction site (California)

Two packages containing 110 pounds of explosives were stolen over the weekend from a construction site in Menifee, a federal firearms official said Tuesday.

Workers arriving Monday at the site in the 25000 block of Newport Road found a chain-link fence broken and the door to the explosives magazine pried open, said Susan Raichel, spokeswoman for the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

An inventory of the materials later revealed that two 55-pound cases of Blastex blasting agent were missing, she said. The theft was reported about 6 a.m. Monday by an employee of the Edic and Watt Inc. construction company. The explosives are used for quarry and construction blasting, Raichel said.

"In the wrong hands, this could be dangerous," she said. "It could create a deadly result if someone doesn't know what they're doing."

Croatia charges two found with explosives at port

ZAGREB, - The Croatian police said on Tuesday it had charged two Croatian men found armed with plastic explosives that was to be activated in the Adriatic port city of Zadar.

One of the men was seized early on Monday near a boarding dock for the ferry boat linking Zadar with Ancona in Italy. The other sped away by car but was stopped by police road blocks outside Zadar.

"We have prevented an act that would have had huge consequences," state news agency Hina quoted Zadar police chief Anton Drazina as saying. Another police official said the target was "in the very heart of Zadar" but did not elaborate.
