A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day
Free Republic made its debut in September, 1996, and the forum was added in early 1997.   Over 100,000 people have registered for posting privileges on Free Republic, and the forum is read daily by tens of thousands of concerned citizens and patriots from all around the country and the world.
A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day was introduced on June 24, 2002. It's only a small room in JimRob's house where we can get to know one another a little better; salute and support our military and our leaders; pray for those in need; and congratulate those deserving. We strive to keep our threads entertaining, fun, and pleasing to look at, and often have guest writers contribute an essay, or a profile of another FReeper.
On Mondays please visit us to see photos of A FEW OF FR'S VETERANS AND ACTIVE MILITARY
If you have a suggestion, or an idea, or if there's a FReeper you would like to see featured, please drop one of us a note in FR mail.
We're having fun and hope you are!

I spent a day over the weekend watching classic movies, staring actors like Bob Hope and Jimmy Stewart. What a great way to spend a rainy Sunday. I thought what a drastic comparison this is to the way things are today. I can't be bothered or care what Hollywood has to say today. The old movies show love of America with patriotic Hollywood Heroes. Now, all we see from Hollywood is anti-american propaganda.

There was a day when we could be proud of many Hollywood producers and actors—when Hollywood’s actors and producers actually had something worthy to say. They were patriotic and performed selfless acts. They served our country in the military, entertained our troops, and supported our troops. They even left successful careers to serve in the military to defend America. These heroes, I admire. Tinsel town has since lost it's shine. Here are a few of my favorites. Who are your favorites?

(Mega-Movie Star when war broke out) Although he was beyond the draft age at the time the U.S. entered WW II, Clark Gable enlisted as a private in the AAF on Aug. 12, 1942 at Los Angeles. Capt. Gable returned to the U.S. in Oct. 1943 and was relieved from active duty as a major on Jun. 12, 1944.

James Stewart Entered the Army Air Force as a private and worked his way to the rank of Colonel. Stewart earned the Air Medal, the Distinguished Flying Cross, France's Croix de Guerre, and 7 Battle Stars during World War II. In peace time, Stewart continued to be an active member of the Air Force as a reservist, reaching the rank of Brigadier General before retiring in the late 1950s.

Bob Hope's commitment and dedication to the morale of America's servicemen and women is entertainment history, indeed, world history. His humor and wit was absolutely brilliant. A legend for all time.

An interesting website Hollywood's World War II Heroes

Here are a few scenes from some of my favorite movies. Can you guess who they are and from what movie? :)

I'm fine, Thanks! How are you doing today? Another rainy day here. Good excuse to be on computer. LOL

I am doing good, thanks!

And St. John River up here is under a flood watch.  Supposed to have 11 more inches of water by tonight.  Thank God I don't live near it, but it is raining non-stop up here.  But it's in the 50's, so thank God, it isn't snow!!!

Unfortunate for us Hollywood spiraled down to mostly bottom feeders. LOL Many were real men of honor. They were so much more attractive and masculine too. So many these days are wimpy guys. LOL!

Terrific! I love Joan Fountaine.

I especially enjoyed watching this man's films. :) Neat, he made an appearance in each one. Just crossing a street or eating in the background. Clever man, Alfred Hitchcock

Dirty movies: why today's Hollywood is a polluter (no triple-entendre intended)

Associated Press
Tuesday, November 14, 2006
Guardian Unlimited

Special effects explosions and idling vehicles are among the reasons for Hollywood's newly-discovered role as an air polluter, a university study published today said.
University of California research revealed the film and TV industry makes a larger contribution to air pollution in the Los Angeles region than almost all the five other sectors studied.

The industry creates more pollution than either aerospace manufacturing or hotels, the study found, with only petroleum manufacturing giving off more emissions.

"People talk of 'the industry', but we don't think of them as an industry," Mary Nichols, who heads the university's environment institute, said. "We think of the creative side, the movie, the people, the actors - we don't think of what it takes to produce the product."

Researchers considered the emissions created both directly and indirectly by filming, looking at both the pollution caused by a diesel generator used to power a film set and the emissions created by a power plant providing electricity to a studio lot....
