What Would Free Republic Do If Fred Thompson Is Not The Republican Nominee? (Vanity)
December 9 2007 | jveritas

It is very obvious that Fred Thompson is Free Republic most favorite candidate and by far. On the other hand every other top tier Republican candidate, Guiliani, Romney, Huckabee, and McCain are absolutely disdained by most Freepers. Therefore this is the important question:

What would Free Republic do if Fred Thompson is not the Republican Party Nominee?

I dunno, FR might become even more important if Hillary! decides to do away with elections.

“Let me tella something, pilgrim. If Rooty Giuliani gets the GOP nomination, FRee Republic will definitely go third party.”

You think? I honestly consider Giuliani a preferable candidate to Huckabee. That’s not saying much, but it is what it is.

No one is doubting that, what I am saying is what will be FR majority opinion and behavior in case Fred Thompson is not the Republican nominee.

I won't vote for Huckabee under any circumstances. Better to lose an election than win and destroy the conservative movement.

The REAL Mike Huckabee

If you are saying that it’s better that America suffer at the hands of lib control so that we can have a “truly conservative party” then I must disagree with you.

Whether we agree or not is of little difference. If the Republicans do not support their Conservative roots, the rest is just an inevitability.

I just like listening to him speak.

I love his courage to speak his mind regarding immigration, pandering be damned.

And it seems by his skyrocketing numbers, I'm not alone.

“Excellent post.”

Oh, I get it now.

You posted this question to ‘bait’ everyone here. Especially the ones that say ‘NO’ to Rudy no matter what’.

Now I’ve got it.

Not falling for it.

>>>>>You think?

If Rooty gets the nomination, Jim's already said that FR will be part of a third party movement. As a conservative forum, we don't support liberalis. Same might hold true if Mitt Boy or the Huckster gets the nomination.

"1. You third party nuts are suicidal kookburgers."

Depends. Not if the nominee is a liberal.

"2. If a monkey in a bellhop suit with an (R) behind his name is our candidate I’m pulling that lever."

That's just stupid. As blind stupid as Black voters pushing the button for Democrats without considering what the hell they're doing. That "R" has to stand for Conservative principles in deed, not just in talk, or you get nothing.

"3. Every one of the GOP candidates is preferable to any one of the liberal, socialist, appeasing, anti-military, taxing abortionists on the left."

Wrong. A RINO enacting a liberal agenda would be FAR worse than a Democrat doing so. Split the base, gin up cynicism, breed more apathy, see us lose on a massive scale at midterms well beyond anything we saw in '06, and when they lose or fail to run for reelection, the Democrats get it ALL.

"Take the party that best fits your values and work to shape it to your liking. Don’t kill 95% of your issues because you’re to shortsighted to see beyond your all-consuming single issue."

Why would I vote for a liberal RINO I agree with on 10% of the issues (in actual deeds, not bullcrap words) ?

I see an underlying theme here with the various posts. Politics is part strategy and part ideological convictions. When to exercise each for maximum political efficacy is where individuals differ. In other words, do I vote like a philosopher or a gambler?

I will vote for whomever our nominee is, because the alternative of Obama Hussein or The Borg Queen is too frightening to contemplate.

It is very obvious that Fred Thompson is Free Republic most favorite candidate and by far.

I'd say that hasn't been my experience. There's been no shortage of Freepers spouting the "fire in the belly" line.

I'm sure that the jveritas statement above is based on the current sidebar poll where Fred is at ~ 60%...

As for me, I prefer Duncan or Fred, but will vote my tagline...

I will support whomever is the last Repub standing. . .

Just listened albeit with a degree of nausea; to McCain; once again, worrying about how much the world likes or respects us re 'waterboarding'. . .and then damning the Agent(s) responsibile for decisioin to destroy 'interrogation files'; without any benefit of doubt as to why they were destroyed. (Would we have been better served to have them on the front pages of NYT's?)

(Funny, how none of the protesting voices - including McCain's, were heard when Sandy Berger did his 'stuff and burn' act; not in the 'service of our nation' but rather ONLY, to protect Clinton, Inc.

(We also have to suffer here, the irony of ironies that Ted - 'the swimmer' is leading Dem attack against government 'deception' here.)

But I digress; would still vote for McCain; if he was our nominee; but honestly would find it easier to vote for Rudy. . .I think.

But vote, I will. . .for a Republican ONLY!

I love you too RM. ;^)

The irony...FOXNEWS Geraldo interviews Mike Huckabee and all I can say is WOW!

Huckabee is leading in virtually ALL the states....Michigan, Texas, Delaware. He sounds very presidential.

Maybe he and Fred can work something out. heh-heh.

Write-in or possibly 3rd party. Why waste a perfectly good vote on a RHINO?

What does the "H" stand for in RHINO?

Good point. Odds are, the last pure ideologue who was President was George Washington. Since then, strategy has always been a part of the equation.
