Anti-Business States Awash In Red Ink

Shortly after he was confirmed as governor of New York earlier this year, David Paterson told a group of business executives that when he received congratulations from old friends he hadn’t heard from in years, he was surprised how many no longer lived in New York. "All of them basically said the same thing," Paterson told the group. "'Good luck in New York state, but we can't pay the taxes. The opportunities aren't there.'”

The DCI study, coming as it did amidst growing talk of state fiscal crises around the country, is particularly revealing. Of the approximately $48 billion in accumulated budget shortfalls that the 29 states with projected deficits are facing, $33 billion, or two-thirds of the gap, is concentrated in those five states considered by corporate executives to be the least friendly to business.

What a surprise!

This has to be one of the great “DUHS” of history. Yet, the morons in these states still vote DemWit... as their government handouts diminish.

The “poor” a merciless master?

Joining New York and California on the list of most unpopular states were New Jersey, Michigan and Massachusetts.

Red states all. Pity.

If you parse BO’s economic plans, he is talking about some$50B to bail out the states. I presume that he is talking about NY,CA,NJ,etc.
This hasn’t gotten much press otherwise.

ML, did you hear that Obama has got Laura D’Andrea Tyson as his Economic Advisor? She was the Clinton hack that wanted to tax employer contributions to 401k’s as current income and impose a 15% retro-active tax on the principal to make up for them not being taxed in the first place. I predicted the Dems when do this when the took over congress. With Barack in the White House, it’s a given. The government seizing 15% of the market? That’s a Depression.

If they consider the mass exodus of hard working Americans from these so-called blue states a problem, may I suggest a typical democrat solution? Raise taxes and increase regulations. That should surely fix the problem! /s

The most common gripes included high taxes and anti-business regulations. Joining New York and California on the list of most unpopular states were New Jersey, Michigan and Massachusetts.

What about the Peoples Republic of Maryland?

This is the problem with 401K. There is nothing to stop the government from seizing them. And as the baby boomers retire in big numbers, it will be too tempting to do so in order to continue the giveaways. It will go the same way as the housing debate is: those who did the right things and lived modestly within their means so they could set something aside for later will be penalized in order to shore up the ones who spent recklessly or irresponsibly and now have a crisis.

They're already into our savings and retirement accounts - what do you think 10-12 percent real inflation is doing to our nest eggs, when 8-10 percent is a good conservative return?

I lived modestly and set aside lots of precious metals - lead and brass.

“...the morons in these states still vote DemWit..”

Worse .. they vote in the Dems who increase their taxes to the point where they can’t afford them and don’t want to pay them, so they move to low-tax states, and vote in Dems.

VA has been victim of that scenario and I am sick and damned tired of New Englanders/New Yorkers/New Jerseyites and Marylanders moving her to escape high taxes, then voting for the tax and spenders as if those votes had no consequences.

Things that make you go hmmmmmmmmmmm.

You could NAIL Barry with this info in late September. He wouldn't be able to dump this little stinkbomb fast enough to do him any good in the runup to the election.

The government seizing 15% of the market? That’s a Depression.

Actually, a Rebellion. Is there a point in negotiating, finally, with armed and pitiless thieves?
