17,000+ today for the McCain-Palin rally outside of St. Louis, according to a Secret Service magnetometer count provided by the campaign.

As one veteran of Missouri politics said, that's the sort of crowd usually seen in October for a president — not in August for a candidate.

It's also a record-best for McCain.

Unless you count the 20,000 plus they drew yesterday, Politico. But don't let actuall facts get in the way of your reporting. :)

The comments to the article demonstrate the Obambi supporters’ fear - a couple of them said that McCain/Palin didn’t draw 75,000 as Obambi did, and replying posts pointed out that Obambi has to have a rock band go first in order to get those sizes of crowds. And a couple more mentioned Gov. Palin’s “inexperience,” and were promptly shot down. BWAHAHAHA!

The Democrats are like screeching children in a supermarket line. We now have our own superstar. The Dems are trying to hold the barn door shut, but the horse already went to town.

I have to give McCain credit for this scam. His ploy of bringing on board someone who people at least precieve is a conservative has made people forget McCain is a socialist.

Man, do I hope this woman comes to Minnesota. I wouldn’t drive three blocks to see McCain, but I would stand in line for hours to see Guv Palin speak!!

Let's hope so.

17,000+ people sat on the ballfields lawn (except for those considered “VIPS” who got seats) sat in 90+ heat for almost 5 hours to hear McCain/Palin!

It was also GREAT to see Huckabee and Romeny there supporting the Ticket.

My only suggestion to McCain Camp is get rid of the VIP special entry. It was very disheartening to all of us on the lawn. A few dignitaries are OK, but over 500 VIPS?

You are running on a ticket of serving the people, not special interest groups. The rumble in the crowd was that if you had enough money you got a seat. Many older people had to stand for 5 hours because of bad knees, hips, etc.

There was also no sense of direction of how to exit the event. We had to wait for 45 minutes at the north gate of the ball field to be let out, while the VIPS were going to their cars. A VERY rude bald headed copy from the City of O’Fallon threaten us that we would be all arrested if we kept complaining. In the meantime a PRO CHOICE gal arrived outside the event and we all suggested she was more dangerous than those of us behind the gates. The copy spent 20 minutes talking with the attractive chick. She left, but came back 5 minutes later and gave us the finger...or I guess the Obama salute, took a picture of us like we were caged animals. I'm sure you will see is posted on DU.

Hope McCain organizers get their act together for the next event!
