How The West Was Won

The rapid and unexpected decline of the Sunni insurgency in Iraq was officially recognized this week, when Maj. Gen. John Kelly, commanding the Marine Expeditionary Force, turned operational control of Anbar Province over to the Iraqi army and police.

Anbar, a vast expanse of desert the size of North Carolina, had been the stronghold of the Sunni insurgency. For years, foreign fighters loyal to al-Qaida had sneaked across Iraq's northwestern border with Syria, into Anbar and down a "rat line" of safe houses in Haditha, Ramadi and Hit.

From Fallujah, the arch terrorist Zarqawi dispatched suicide bombers to murder hundreds of Shiites in Baghdad. So fearsome were the al-Qaida leaders in Iraq that by 2005 they had taken control or intimidated Sunni resistance cells 10 times their size. Read More

Later, after radio host Laura Ingraham spoke, Schlafly returned to the podium, and additional Code Pink protestors mounted the stage and chanted from in front of the stage. These protestors were escorted from the stage and the front of the stage to outside the hotel.

Abileah was among the Code Pink protestors escorted out of the hotel after the second disruption.

“Someone gave me it from a media outlet,” Abileah said outside the hotel. “It’s friendly of them. There’s a lot of media out there that support our message.””

Why is this nonsense allowed to continue? Why isn’t Rae Abileah being brought before a court of law for among other things, theft, ID theft, and false impersonation? Being escorted out the door, is less than going to bed without dessert!

Code Pink has made a habit of infiltrating events and getting close to officials under the protection of the U.S. Secret Service.

Yesterday Code Pink member Desiree Farooz rushed the stage and came dangerously close to President Bush at Monticello. The weekend before she rushed John McCain. Last fall she got close enough to Condoleeza Rice to place her hands around the Secrtary of State’s head.

At the McCain event, legitimate reporters noted that McCain was heckled from the press area by a protester:

On May 13, 2008, I transmitted a message to the Congress transmitting the text of a proposed Agreement for Cooperation Between the Government of the United States of America and the Government of the Russian Federation for Cooperation in the Field of Peaceful Uses of Nuclear Energy (the “proposed Agreement”), pursuant to sections 123 b. and 123 d. of the Atomic Energy Act of 1954, as amended (42 U.S.C. 2153(b), (d)) (the “Act”).

In view of recent actions by the Government of the Russian Federation incompatible with peaceful relations with its sovereign and democratic neighbor Georgia, I have determined that the determination regarding the proposed Agreement in Presidential Determination 2008-19 is no longer effective. Accordingly, a statutory prerequisite for the proposed Agreement to become effective, as required by section 123 b. of the Act, is no longer satisfied. If circumstances should permit future reconsideration of the proposed Agreement, a new determination will be made and the proposed Agreement will be submitted for congressional review pursuant to section 123 of the Act.

ARTICLE SNIPPET: “EL PASO COUNTY - A security breach at Cheyenne Mountain Air Station put authorities on high alert Friday afternoon. At 2 p.m. a man was arrested by the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office after military police detained a man near the visitor center. According to the sheriff’s office, the man was arrested and taken to the Criminal Justice Center because he was wanted on several warrants.

At 3:30 p.m., in an unrelated incident, military police began searching for a second man who also breached a security checkpoint. According to the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office, the man was asked to leave but refused.

Military police somehow lost contact with him and a massive manhunt began. The Colorado Springs Police Department used its helicopter to search by air, and the Sheriff’s Office used K-9’s to search on foot.”

I saw the propaganda links coming in before going to bed in the am, but wasn’t really impressed and since I don’t speak Arabic; I really don’t know if there is new content here...aside from the graphics, etc.

Abdulla Ahmed Ali, Assad Sarwar and Tanvir Hussain were found guilty of plotting to kill “persons unknown,” but not necessarily on planes.

The prosecutor told jurors during the trial that the men planned to attack United Airlines, American Airlines and Air Canada flights by smuggling liquid explosives onto jets and detonating them in-flight.”

Coalition Captures 15 Terror Suspects in Baghdad, Mosul

American Forces Press Service

WASHINGTON, Sept. 8, 2008 – Coalition forces detained 15 suspected terrorists, including two wanted men, during operations targeting al-Qaida in Iraq in two of the country’s largest cities today.

Coalition forces captured a wanted man with alleged longstanding terrorism ties during an operation in Baghdad and detained two additional suspects.

In the northern city of Mosul, coalition forces detained a dozen suspected terrorists, including a wanted man believed to distribute extremist propaganda and act as a liaison between senior leaders of multiple terrorist networks, while targeting al-Qaida in Iraq propaganda cells.

Also today, coalition and Iraqi troops seized several weapons during operations to increase security in southern Baghdad’s West Rashid district. After receiving a tip from a local sheik, U.S. soldiers with the 153rd Infantry Battalion, along with Iraqi soldiers and police, seized six 125 mm rounds and 12 82 mm mortars.

“Bomb-making video of Al Qaeda terrorists bro hits internet,” from ANI, September 8:

London, Sept 8 (ANI): A YouTube spoof video posted by the brother of an Al-Qaeda terrorist, in which he boasts how to make a bomb, is making rounds of internet circles.

The video shows Musa Ahmet, 47, chillingly looking into the camera saying: Hi everybody. Im going to show you how to make a deadly bomb in two minutes.

Then he is shown fiddling with components out of view and finally holding up a sign with Deadly Bomb scribbled above a rough sketch of a device.

Musa is the brother of Atilla, 44, hook-handed cleric Abu Hamzas personal bodyguard who called himself the No 1 al-Qaeda in Europe.
