“DoD approves sale of bunker buster missiles to Israel”

ARTICLE SNIPPET: “The US Department of Defense has notified Congress of a potential sale of 1,000 small diameter bunker-buster missiles to Israel, which would likely be used in the event of a military strike against Iran’s nuclear facilities.
The notification of the possible sale to Congress was made over the weekend by the Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA), the branch of the Pentagon responsible for evaluating foreign military sales. The bunker-buster missile Israel has asked for is called GBU-39.
The deal is valued at $77 million and the principal contractor will be Boeing Integrated Defense Systems.
In addition to the missiles, Israel has also asked for 150 mounting carriages, 30 guided test vehicles as well as two instructors to train the Israei Air Force how to load the missiles on its aircraft.”

Hizbullah Warns Against Attempts To Disarm It
Hizbullah’s foreign relations chief Nawaf Al-Musavi has warned senior Lebanese officials planning to act to disarm it under the national dialogue.
He said that such attempts to disarm Hizbullah, in the guise of “integrating the weapons” into the Lebanese Army, will be in vain.
The national dialogue is to begin next week.

WASHINGTON, Sept. 14, 2008 – Coalition and Iraqi forces detained three suspected Iranian-backed “special groups criminals” and discovered weapons during recent operations throughout Baghdad, military officials said.
In operations yesterday, local police found more than 1,700 small-arms rounds, 18 grenades, 10 AK-47 assault rifles with magazines and eight munitions vests in Baghdad’s New Baghdad district. Also, a local citizen turned in a 60 mm mortar round and a rocket-propelled grenade round to U.S. troops patrolling the area, officials said.
In operations Sept. 12, a U.S.-Iraqi-joint patrol captured an alleged Iranian-backed “special groups leader” in Baghdad’s Jihad community. The suspect is reportedly responsible for orchestrating a July attack on troops at Baghdad International Airport. Also, U.S. troops discovered a rocket system in Baghdad’s Zubaida community based on a tip from Iraqi policemen, officials said.
In operations Sept. 11, U.S. troops and Iraqi policemen detained two alleged Iranian-backed “special groups criminals” in Baghdad’s Bayaa community after responding to a drive-by shooting on a police checkpoint. Also, in Baghdad’s Hadar community, U.S. troops found various small arms ammunition and two artillery rounds, officials said.

Coalition, Afghan Forces Kill Militants, Detain Two

WASHINGTON, Sept. 14, 2008 – Coalition troops and Afghan national policemen killed an unspecified number of militants and detained two suspected insurgents yesterday in Khowst province, military officials said.
The militants are believed to be part the Haqqani terrorist group and are responsible for numerous bombings throughout Afghanistan, officials said.
As coalition and Afghan forces approached the enemy fighters’ compound, several militants maneuvered on them with Ak-47 assault rifles. The militants ignored coalition pleas to disarm, which coalition troops considered as the militants “displaying hostile intent,” officials said.
Coalition forces called in precision air strikes from coalition aircraft, then engaged the enemy fighters with small arms, killing several. Two militants were later detained, officials said.

Quoting Chinese government sources, Tokyo Shimbun reported on Sep.t 15 that Kim Jong-il collapsed because he was distressed that U.S. postponed the delisting of N. Korea from terror sponsor list.
The sources reportedly said, “He is alert enough to take charge, but still experience impaired limb movement, requiring some period of rehabilitation.”
The sources explained that he collapsed on Aug. 14, and suffered from both cerebral infarction and cerebral hemorrhage, that is, some blood vessels blocked and others ruptured in his brain. He has been extremely tense until Aug. 11 when U.S. delisting of N. Korea from terror sponsor was expected.
As soon as Kim went down, Chinese government sent five specialists. He is (currently) recovering at Bong-hwa Clinic on the suburb of Pyongyang, after undergoing operation, the paper reported.
