Obama: ‘I’m Not Going to Take Your Guns Away’
Wall Street Journal ^ | September 5, 2008 | Christopher Cooper

Posted on 09/05/2008 2:32:16 PM PDT by neverdem

The Obama campaign talks a lot about new ideas and expanding the political map, but in the swing state of Pennsylvania, which the campaign has focused on almost exclusively since the Democratic convention, old-school issues still rise to the fore.

The latest example came Friday during a small political event at SCHOTT North America Inc., a glass factory in Duryea, Pa., where even a hand-picked crowd threw Barack Obama a curve ball.

A woman in the crowd told Obama she had “heard a rumor” that he might be planning some sort of gun ban upon being elected president. Obama trotted out his standard policy stance, that he had a deep respect for the “traditions of gun ownership” but favored measures in big cities to keep guns out of the hands of “gang bangers and drug dealers’’ in big cities “who already have them and are shooting people.”

Those communists always say “we won’t take them away. We’ll just apply ‘sensible’ regulations, which effectively takes them away.”

He still doesn't get it.

No, he get's it, alright. It is you who don't: that man will say or do ANYTHING to obtain power, and once he obtains it, he'll do ANYTHING to preserve or increase it...starting with degrading the power of the people to forcibly resist the tyrannical dictates that he plans to shove down our throats. He DOES get it - if we have guns, he can't do everything he wants.

Here is a big problem with Barack Obama; he knowingly associates with terrorists, radical pastors, and those being investigated for felony financial crimes.

First there is William Ayers who Obama served with and did speaches with between 1999 - 2002. In 2001 (on Sept. 11, 2001 to be exact) the New York Times printed and interview with Ayers on his days as a Weather Underground leader. In the interview Ayers states he does not regret bombing police stations, the capitol, and the pentagon and that he would not rule out doing it all again. Yet Obama never denounces him and the group he is a paid leader for gives money to Ayer’s wife’s orginization.

Then there is having a man like Rev. Wright as your mentor and naming him to your campaign. He did a 30 minute speech supporting him and refusing to denounce him; until.... his polls took a hit. Then and only then did he distance himself from the radical preacher. The man is a nutcase and Obama only seperated himself from him to save his campaign. He says our government gives the black man the drugs, our government invented HIV to eradicate blacks, etc. Nutcase.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=617eK2XIaLk
Then there is Rezko, the Syrian born scum lord and felon who helped Obama buy property in Chicago. Obama accepted this even though there was multiple stories in Illinois about the investigations into Rezko. Obama later called it a boneheaded mistake. Yes it was, like many others.

And then there is the fact that his childhood mentor was a known member of the communist party of the united states, a fact Obama now admits.

Any single man with this many associations with people of such terrible backgrounds a serious problem is who he surrounds himself with. That is a major stumbling block for him to overcome.

So he tried again. “Even if I want to take them away, I don’t have the votes in Congress,’’

What a dumbass statement which turns out to be a warning to every gun owner in this country! With him behind the wheel, the entire democrat congress and senate would be orgasmic in their opportunity to enact overwhelming and comprehensive gun control laws and bans........

From the comments on the original article:

Of course he won’t. It would be kind of hard to since we’re all “clinging” to them.

He’ll just limit ammunition through serial numbers, or give control of ammo to the EPA or make it a health problem and turn the problem over to the Surgeon General. No reason to go to Congress, just make some rules at the administrative level and enforce them.

This guy is lying through his teeth.

And by the way, it sounds as if the wheels are starting to come off the old campaign. Even the handpicked participants are beginning to rebel.

An excerpted comment from the WSJ discussion:

Man, reading some of these comments really shows how narrow minded people in my own country. Out of 300 million people living in the USA, the majority of them don’t have guns in their homes. I haven’t seen or read one piece of data, that having a gun has made a life better, has it put money in your pocket?? If you are not using it during hunting season, has it put food on your table? Has it created a job for you? Has it provided an opportunity for you to afford health care? Has it allowed you to save enough money to send your children to college if they desire to continue their education?? Has it kept this country out of a war, that has ruined our reputation, drained our economica resources, taken innocent lives of US Military men and women in Iraq. NO!! Wake Up.. Comment by Ignorance - September 5, 2008 at 3:26 pm

Clearly there are idiots that take "majority rules" to an absurd conclusion.

I believe John “the hunter” Kerry said the same thing. But his voting record showed otherwise. It’s standard for Dems, during an election campaign, to claim that they are not trying to disarm the public.

"Even if I want to take them away, I don’t have the votes in Congress"

So he put enough thought into trying to do it that he checked with his party hacks whether they would support the bill he already drafted and is waiting to submit.

Well, I guess he's got us there. The right to bear arms is one thing...but anything below the wrist is fair game.

Never believe this zero. As with all socialist he will remove as many guns from the people as he can get away with.

But, as is also common with demagogues, he will allow his auxiliaries (criminals, gangs, the new political corp he has intimated he wants) to be armed, whether by law or benign neglect.

Whoever he or his minions send to take my guns will get them but not until I use them a time or two. That way I figure there will be one or two less to visit my neighbors. I do not expect to win the battle on my own, but I will do my part. Please to ensure your gun collectors are equipped with body bags as they will need them for themselves and for me. No brag, just determination.

Obama also went to “Happy Valley” and told the kids at Penn State that he was happy to be with the “Natty Lion.” Anyone who doesn't know that their mascot is the Nittany Lion, cannot be trusted on any pledge to maintain our right to keep and bear arms. Rush had the audio on this gem today and its probably on his site as I write.

Also, Dick Morris when pressed, told Sean Hannity this afternoon that he expects Obama to win by 1 - 2 percentage points. Morris is probably betting that this will happen because of the fact that there has been a population shift, but no Census and subsequent Congressional redistricting that means that the Republicans we expected to be in Ohio have gone west and since they will overwhelming elect McCain in western and southern red states those states won't have the electoral votes that they will have after the 2010 census and we will loose with the slimmest of margins. This may very well be determined be a case where Obama has a majority in the electoral college but a minority on the popular vote count. Just like Bush - Gore in 2000. So we have to hope to hold Ohio and quite possibly roll Colorado. It would be nice to have Pennsylvania, but there are just too many Dems there to overcome.
