FBI Warns of Potential Terror Attacks

The FBI and Department of Homeland Security today issued an analytical "note" to U.S. law-enforcement officials cautioning that al-Qaida terrorists have in the past expressed interest in attacking public buildings using a dozen suicide bombers each carrying 20 kilograms of explosives.

Authors with the U.S. Office of Intelligence and Analysis added that they have "no credible or specific information that terrorists are planning operations against public buildings in the United States." The FBI and DHS analysts said they were releasing the note because "it is important for local authorities and building owners and operators to be aware of potential attack tactics."

According to the note obtained by NBC News, a "recently discovered audio recording of al-Qa‘ida training sessions conducted several years ago provides instruction to potential suicide terrorists on seizing a publicly accessible building and damaging or destroying it with explosive charges." British woman gunned down by Afghan militants on Kabul street; murdered for ‘spreading Christianity’
The Daily Mail (U.K.) ^ | October 0, 2008
Posted on October 20, 2008 3:05:06 AM PDT by Stoat

A British woman working for a Christian charity helping disabled Afghans was shot dead in Kabul as she walked to work early this morning, officials and the group said.
Gayle Williams worked for SERVE Afghanistan, which describes itself as a Christian charity, confirmed the incident but would not give any details.

‘Our people carried out this attack in District 3 of Kabul this morning at 7am,’ the Taliban’s spokesman Zabiullah Mujahed told The Times. ‘The reason that we killed her was because she was spreading Christianity.”

‘Two armed men sitting on a motorbike shot her dead. Some bullets hit her body and some hit her leg and when police got there she was dead,’ Bashary said.

Taliban beheads bus passengers
Men traveling in civilian clothes to find work, although they claim that many of them were soldiers. In any case, the beheadings are sanctioned by Qur’an 47:4, which tells Muslims to “strike at the necks” of the unbelievers — a verse routinely ignored by the televised pundits who have assured us repeatedly that the Qur’an says nothing about beheading.

“Taliban beheads bus passengers,” from Agence France-Presse, October 20:

TALIBAN militants hijacked a bus in southern Afghanistan last week and killed as many as 40 passengers, authorities said, although only six beheaded bodies were recovered by today.

A spokesman for the insurgent group confirmed the militia had seized the passenger bus in Kandahar province and said 27 on board were killed because they were soldiers.

The defence ministry denied they were troops.

Kandahar provincial police chief Mutihullah Khan Qatah said there were 50 passengers aboard the bus when it was ambushed on Friday in Maiwand district about 50km east of Kandahar city.

“Among them 10 people were released after they were said to be civilians. The rest of them were killed,” he said.

Six bodies were in the district clinic and about two dozen more were believed to be in a Taliban-controlled area, Mr Qatah said later.

“We are still trying to find them.”

The police chief said the men, all apparently aged between 20 and 25 and in civilian clothes, were from Kabul and travelling to Iran to seek work in the neighbouring country. Hundreds of Afghans work illegally in Iran....

You needn’t go world wide to caution people, you will find
that it’s already too late for caution. I’m talking about the new communism in the U.S, it’s called Liberalism. It has become so overpowering in it’s influence that to speak
your mind against it is to be ridiculed and belittled. As a Canadian observer I have seen this communistic cancer grow and spread through the political landscape, it is here. Every institutuion has bought into the liberal lie.
The media (with rare exception) and that will be stamped out when Obama and the rest of the liberals take over, Your
institutions of learning, Hollywood and the music industry
and of course the liberal party itself. Conservative views are considered the devils handywork. I predict that the day is near when conservatives will gather in small clandestine groups and wonder what in the hell happened. The new communism is
liberalism, make no mistake, a new cover but the same old
draconian book. The election of Obama is the first step to
the fall of America as we knew it.....Change is already here, it’s just a matter of making it official.

“Change is already here.”

I agree.
It’s here because of apathy and political correctness.

Thank you for your feedback, greyfox.

“”Top Ten Gun Safety Tips” Censored at Lone Star College in Texas
Young Conservatives of Texas Threatened with Probation and Derecognition”

October 20, 2008

FIRE Press Release

PRESS RELEASE: “HOUSTON, October 20, 2008—After distributing a jocular flyer listing “Top Ten Gun Safety Tips” at the school’s “club rush,” a student group was threatened with probation and derecognition at Lone Star College–Tomball, a public college near Houston. After college officials banned the Young Conservatives of Texas (YCT) from distributing the flyer, the school’s general counsel invoked the specter of the Virginia Tech shootings, suggesting that even a “mention of firearms and weapons” is inherently a “material interference” with the school’s operations. The group has turned to the Foundation for Individual Rights in Education (FIRE) for help.

“Distributing a joke-filled top-ten list at a student activities fair is a creative way for a student group to educate its peers about itself,” FIRE President Greg Lukianoff said. “Lone Star should be ashamed of invoking the tragedy of Virginia Tech in an attempt to justify the censorship of any mention of firearms at Lone Star. Doing so is not only an affront to constitutional rights—it trivializes the experiences of the true victims of gun violence.”

On September 8, YCT was distributing flyers, along with other student organizations, during “club rush,” an event where student groups attempt to recruit new members. YCT’s flyers featured the “Top Ten Gun Safety Tips,” including “If your gun misfires, never look down the barrel to inspect it,” “Always keep your gun pointed in a safe direction, such as at a Hippy or a Communist,” and “No matter how excited you are about buying your first gun, do not run around yelling ‘I have a gun! I have a gun!’” The flyer invited students to the club’s informational meeting the following week.

According to YCT Chairman Robert Comer, Program Manager for Student Activities Shannon Marino told him that the flyer was inappropriate and confiscated the flyers. Comer appealed to Dean of Student Development E. Edward Albracht, but Albracht also said the flyer was inappropriate and invoked last year’s shootings at Virginia Tech. In response, Comer made new flyers without the “Top Ten” theme and distributed them for the remainder of the club rush.

The college’s efforts to censor YCT’s expression did not end there. On September 11, Marino informed Comer that the school’s legal department would be reviewing the flyers and that afterward, the school might disband YCT or put the group on probation for the year—simply because of the recruitment flyer.

FIRE wrote Lone Star College–Tomball President Raymond Hawkins on September 26, reminding him of the college’s constitutional obligation not to subject YCT to prosecution and censorship. FIRE noted that as a public college, Lone Star College–Tomball is required to respect the First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution and to acknowledge that the flyer’s contents constitute protected speech. FIRE asked President Hawkins to respond by October 10.

On October 14, FIRE received an e-mail from Brian S. Nelson, General Counsel for the Lone Star College System. Nelson stated that any “mention of firearms and weapons” is inherently a “material interference with the operation of the school or the rights of others” because such language “brings fear and concern to students, faculty and staff.” Nelson also stated that “the tragedy of Virginia Tech cannot be underestimated when it comes to speech relating to firearms—however ‘satirical and humorous’ the speech may be perceived by some.”

“The First Amendment does not make an exception for unreasonable hysteria over a humorous firearms-related top-ten list,” Adam Kissel, Director of FIRE’s Individual Rights Defense Program, said. “It is outrageous that the Young Conservatives of Texas are apparently still under investigation more than a month after distributing their flyer. When speech is so obviously protected by the Constitution, there is simply nothing to investigate and not a single reason to censor.”

FIRE is a nonprofit educational foundation that unites civil rights and civil liberties leaders, scholars, journalists, and public intellectuals from across the political and ideological spectrum on behalf of individual rights, due process, freedom of expression, academic freedom, and rights of conscience at our nation’s colleges and universities. FIRE’s efforts to preserve liberty on campuses across America can be viewed at www.thefire.org.”

“Senior Iranian Official Recommends that Iran Mark London as a Target – In Order to Deter Bush from Attacking Iran in Last Months of Presidency”

SNIPPET: “In an October 18, 2008 article on the Iranian website Aftab, Wahid Karimi, director of the Europe and U.S. department in Iran’s Foreign Ministry, recommends that Iran mark London as a target, since it is the capital of the country that is the U.S.’s closest ally in Europe. This, says Karimi, would be with the aim of ensuring that the Bush administration does not attack Iran in its final weeks, after the U.S. presidential election next month and before Bush officially leaves office on January 20, 2009.

Following are the main points of Karimi’s article:”

Algeria: Al-Qaeda Kidnaps, Beheads Young Boy......
Allah seems to be a fan of headless corpses....

ALGIERS, OCTOBER 16 - Three municipal guards were killed and two others seriously injured yesterday when a bomb exploded in the Setif region, 300 kilometres east of Algiers, while a young police cook was assassinated in Boudouau, in Kabylia near the capital.

The head of the boy taken hostage two days ago has also been found alongside railway tracks, according to Liberté.It is a macabre action which, said the newspaper, is a clear sign that the Salafite Group for Preaching and Combat (GSPC, now Al Qaeda for the Islamic Magreb) has adopted the gruesome methods used by the Armed Islamic Group (GIA).

Coalition, Iraqis Detain 11 Suspects, Seize Weapons

American Forces Press Service

WASHINGTON, Oct. 20, 2008 – Coalition forces apprehended 11 suspected terrorists in and around Baghdad today and yesterday, military officials reported.

Coalition forces captured a wanted man and six others in Baghdad today. The man is believed to be a courier and of having ties with foreign terrorists as well as regional al-Qaida in Iraq leaders, officials said.

A separate operation in Baghdad today netted another wanted man and three additional suspects believed to be associated with regional al-Qaida in Iraq leadership.

Iraq security forces and coalition troops also are increasing their seizure of illegal weapons. A tip from an Iraqi citizen to a “Sons of Iraq” citizen security group member led to a large cache find Oct. 17 in Baghdad. An Iraqi National Police brigade transition team working in partnership with U.S. soldiers with the 1st Armored Division’s 2nd Brigade Combat Team seized the cache in the city’s Madain Qada area.

The cache contained 723 1.25 pound blocks of C-4 explosive, four 15-pound bags of crushed C-4 and 20 30-pound bags of various explosives, all suspected to be Iranian manufactured, officials said. The U.S. Army’s 63rd Explosives Ordnance Disposal Team consolidated and destroyed all of the weapon cache items in a controlled detonation.

The find was one of the largest weapons caches discovered in Madain Qada area in several years, Lt. Col. Wayne Marotto, a 2nd BCT public affairs officer, said.

In other cache finds of illegal weapons in Baghdad over the weekend, coalition and Iraqi forces seized:

— A rocket cache in Baghdad’s Rashid district consisting of 21 107 mm rockets;

— A 125 mm rocket, a 57 mm projectile, blasting cap and remote-control jack in the Jihad community;

— Four AK-47 assault rifles, an MP-5 submachine gun and two pistols from a man they detained in the Karada area;
— Eight anti-aircraft rockets, two mortar tubes, five 60 mm mortars, two Kaytusha rockets and 20 AK-fired grenades; and

— Two rocket-propelled grenades at a technical college in Karadah, as well as five sticks of PE-4 explosives, five electric caps, a grenade fuse, about 200 rounds of small-arms ammunition, 25 feet of detonation cord and a 10-round magazine for an SVD rifle.

“When the Lowest Bidder is a Chinese Company”

ARTICLE SNIPPET: “Eyes should be opened wide when it comes to the process of awarding contracts for the security of our ports and critical infrastructure. It was noted last week in Government Security News that a Chinese company had underbid two other companies (Smiths’ Detection and Rapiscan Systems) for an x-ray scanning system for the Port of Los Angeles.”

ARTICLE SNIPPET: “Further, according to reports, the Port of Los Angeles appears to have followed all procurement procedures, and there was no “Buy America” provision in its regulations.”

A spokeswoman for Food Standards Australia New Zealand said Monday that Orion brand Tiramisu Italian Cake with Cheese Cream and Dali Yuan brand First Milk vanilla-flavored drink were recalled Friday after government tests revealed the Chinese-made products contained low levels of melamine, the industrial chemical that has sickened tens of thousands of Chinese children.
