Palin to RESIGN as Alaska Governor
Real Clear Politics ^ | July 3, 2009

UPDATE: Palin To Resign As Alaska Governor UPDATE: KTUU-TV in Anchorage reports that Palin not only won't seek re-election, but will resign later this month.

ORIGINAL POST: Gov. Sarah Palin (R) has announced she will not run for re-election in 2010, CNN reports. She's scheduled to make an announcement shortly.

The decision frees Palin to travel in the Lower 48 as she considers a potential run for president in 2012. A re-election campaign could also have been tough on the former vice presidential nominee; her approval rating has dropped from stratospheric highs, and a number of candidates in both parties are said to be considering runs.

Even if she won, the race would have been dominated by the specter of a presidential bid, giving her adversaries an opportunity to wound her politically. She's still fending off ethics complaints, many spurred by the "Troopergate" scandal.

Has a lot of respect for her.

Not the “last press conference” I was referring to. That’s from his farewell address to his staff. I was talking about the press conference at the Hilton in 1962 after the 1962 Calif. gubernatorial defeat. “You won’t have Nixon to kick around anymore.”

"And Americans (at least in MN) don't like folks who use the Governorship primarily as a stepping stone to DC."

I don't think that any fair minded person would label someone as an opportunist if they simply finished the term that they were elected to and then ran for higher office some two years later.

I think if Palin would have stood for reelection, and then announced just a few months after her second term had started that she was a candidate for President, that would have soured many people in her state, and rightfully so.

I really don't understand her logic. It seems likely that she doesn't have any more political aspirations. And, given what she and her family have been through the last year, I can't say that I blame her.

I’ve only watched Fox News and yet the comments are coming hard and fast. Drama queen, fishy doing it on the Friday of the July 4th weekend, they think there may be another shoe to drop, a “you won’t have Nixon to kick around anymore” moment”, etc, etc.

She still had 18 months left to serve.
Can’t imagine what it’s like on CNN and others.

Obama still had 4 years and 6 more months to serve in the US Senate

Hillary had not finished her term in the US Senate

GW Bush still had 2 years to serve as Texas Governor

Bill Clinton still had not finished his term as Arkansas Governor

Obama has been pushed aside from the headlines on the 4th of July weekend

The media was caught with it’s pinko panties down around their ankles

With Cap & Trade and ObamaScare and McAmnesty ahead - Sarahcuda is out swimming now in deep waters and her teeth are sharp

Sarah will run for the presidency by talking straight to the American people with no filters, trick questions and RINO handlers. By the time 2012 rolls around, you will feel like she is your own kid-sister.

Love your read on Sarah's gameplan. She could start a blog tonight, and it would become one of the most visited places on the internet in 24 hours. And, it would stay that way, too.

She will probably take the media path you've indicated. It's perfect, and totally doable. She should ignore the Obama Propaganda Ministry altogether. It doesn't make a lick of sense for her to give them another single interview, considering the fact that their entire intention in interviewing her is to rip her to shreds.

I can't wait for SarahTV.com!

“A good point guard drives through a full court press, protecting the ball, keeping her eye on the basket… and she knows exactly when to pass the ball so that the team can WIN. And I’m doing that – keeping our eye on the ball that represents sound priorities – smaller government, energy independence, national security, freedom! And I know when it’s time to pass the ball – for victory.”

More like she’s taking her ball and going home.

“What we do not know is what are her exact future plans. Presidential run? Senate? Out of politics completely but still working for America....”

Her political career is over.

The media and Rats relentless attacks have poisoned her in the minds of just too many people .

The same could have been said about Nixon. Now THAT was a far more improbable political comeback than Sarah faces.
