How Can Glenn Beck Be Right on So Much and Yet Still Believe the book of Mormon? (serious question)

Posted on 10/26/2009 7:51:02 AM PDT by Scythian

I'm a huge Beck fan, in fact I'm listening right now here

http://www.ksfa860.com/common/gap_streamer.php

but something really confuses me. It takes the ability to use real critical thinking to know what Beck (and most of us know about the state of the country and where we are heading). That is, we have the ability to discover the truth no matter how much the media or conventional wisdom try to hide it. Yet on Mormonism, Beck is cleary wrong. Any Christian knows that the book or momonism is severely flawed and that Joseph Smith was no prophet. How can Beck cut through all the chaff of what is going on in our world and come to the truth and yet believe the writings of Joseph Smith? It doesn't make sense? I'm not saying he's up to something secret, not by any means, it's just that he's so right about so many things and completely wrong on the most important thing. Now, he just said on the air that he believes Jesus is the Savior of the world and that he is Mormon.

I also think that because he is Mormon he is not attacked near as much if he was a Evangelical Bible only believer. Anyway, am I nutz or does Beck being a Mormon seem bizarre?

TChris. Those other churches don't claim that their male members hold the holy Melchizedek Priesthood. Which as your organization claims:

” Men in the Church must be worthy Melchizedek Priesthood holders in order to receive the temple endowment and be sealed to their families for eternity. They have the authority to administer to the sick and give special blessings to family members and others. With the authorization of presiding priesthood leaders, they can bestow the gift of the Holy Ghost and ordain other worthy men to offices in the Aaronic and Melchizedek Priesthoods.

When a man receives the Melchizedek Priesthood, he enters into the oath and covenant of the priesthood. He covenants to be faithful, magnify his calling, “give diligent heed to the words of eternal life,” and “live by every word that proceedeth forth from the mouth of God.” Those who keep this covenant will be sanctified by the Spirit and receive “all that [the] Father hath.” (See D&C 84:33–44.) “

These men who attacked and killed the innocent were priesthood holders, and ecclesiastical leaders. So are you now claiming that the LDS are no different than the rest of Christianity. You've got nothing “special?” Yeppers, that's what I've been saying all along. Thanks for confirming it.

You're very good at attacking the messenger. You could be a disciple of Obama - you're THAT good at it. :)

Then why don't YOU "post the truth" and let lurkers see which side is doing the LYING?

That's the point: Those who want to know the truth can easily find it. Seeing through all the smears and lies isn't difficult. It's not like you're fooling anyone. You aren't convincing anyone who doesn't already feel the way you do.

Like liberals in the Leftist Media, you aren't interested in accuracy, but only in the emotional impact of your words. Rather than choose words for accuracy and fairness, you choose them for their inflammatory power. You want to push peoples' buttons to incite anger and fear towards Mormons.

All you're accomplishing is to make more and more FReepers, both Mormon and non-Mormon, really despise your posts. Haven't you noticed yet?

Your challenge to "post the truth" would be a monumental waste of time, because all your material is so OLD. The same accusations, slanders and smears have been repeated ad nauseam for well over 100 years now! They have also been answered, exposed, dismissed and otherwise disproved many times over.

The Church hosts a website for those who truly want to learn what we believe.

In addition, The Neal A. Maxwell Institude (previously FARMS) and FAIR do an admirable job covering most of your well-worn material. The FAIR website has a Links page for access to other information as well.

Those who are truly interested in the subject will find plenty of information at those sites.

Kindly point out the Catholics, Baptists, etc, whose crimes you have blamed on their Church. Show me ONE POST where you have done so, CC. Just one.

Well...since I've never been Catholic or Baptist, I don't have any first hand knowledge like I do with the crimes of Mormonism that took place right in my very back yard, but if it makes you feel better, I read that some priests sodomized some young boys and there were some Baptists that hung black men from trees.

Do you feel better now knowing that Mormonism is nothing special?

What a weasel.

Still chickening out on the original subject, I see.

Gonna defend your pathetic double standard or not?

You must feel so relieved! You've FINALLY posted something about members of another religion.

I don’t give a fig if he is a Wiccan or an atheist. If he supports the constitution and free market capitalism that’s good enough for me.

Actually I don’t. I never feel relief in the sins of mankind (including my own) and I have them TChris, I do.

That is why I am so blessed to have a Savior who died for my sins and loves me. It makes me want glory for Him. It makes me want to serve and obey him. Not for my glory, but for His.

Truth is very important to God. There is no place in God for a lie.

John 8:31.... Jesus said, “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. 32Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”

33They answered him, “We are Abraham’s descendants and have never been slaves of anyone. How can you say that we shall be set free?”

34Jesus replied, “I tell you the truth, everyone who sins is a slave to sin. 35Now a slave has no permanent place in the family, but a son belongs to it forever. 36So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.

Ironically the LDS website is where Elsie gets his information, quoting the very documents contained within, often in the entirety...

As far as using FAIR, BYU etc., for a fair and accurate appraisal of LDS history and dogma...

Wow...

That's like turning Consumer Reports over to a Madison Avenue advertising firm...

One tends to get real antsy when they realize long held beliefs may not be all they seem to be.

BTW I am interested in the accuracy of which you speak.

Where are the lands of the BOM?

Between New York and the Southern Tip of South America is not really an answer...

Where are the descendant of the numerous people that traveled here?

The DNA evidence is lacking even by BYU standards now.

There is only one God but Jesus is God and God the Father is God and they are separate personages. That has yet to be defined accurately especially when the “we are not polytheist” mantra is brought out.

(I tastefully left out the Mormons who met their duty and achieved the promised Godhood so soften talked about but never elaborated on even by LDS folk here, that has to run the God count up)

You speak of accuracy, you speak of truth, you speak of slander.

Here is your chance, rise to the occasion!
