Twelve people have been killed and 31 wounded in a shooting spree at a Texas military base by what officials believe was possibly carried out by an Army officer.

The suspected gunman was identified by ABC News as Major Malik Nadal Hasan.

The shooter was killed and two other suspects, who are also soldiers, have been apprehended, Lt. Gen. Robert W. Cone said.

The gunman used two handguns, Cone said. He wasn't sure if the shooter reloaded the weapons during the attack.

Too early to tell. If I was organizing the attack on a day where they were graduating soldiers, and there were lots of families on base, why wouldn’t you come loaded down with explosives?

My money is that its nutters. Like I said before, even the Columbine kids thought in terms of pipe bombs.

MS-13, Al Qaeda, etc. would have been better prepared than guys with rifles.

Last I checked it is un-American to kill people based on their religion alone — First Amendment, murder laws, and all that.

The question isn't whether members of the military commit murders, it's whether they do so at a significantly higher rate than civilians. And in fact, they don't.

That's not true for Colorado Springs, at any rate. The 10 guys from the same unit who've been arrested are responsible for disproportionately large percentage of the total killings in Colorado Springs. Not that our murder rates are very high to beginw with ... but even the Army has acknowledged that they've got a problem.

UPDATE: Fort Hood Casualty Count Rises
As many as nine people are dead and as many as 30 more are injured after two or more gunmen in military uniforms opened fire Thursday afternoon in a deployment processing center at Fort Hood. Schools on and around the post are locked down and hospitals report receiving mass casualties.
