Top Photo: Shanghai in 1990.

Bottom Photo: Shanghai in 2010.

Just an interesting photo of where American wealth has gone to fund the huge building boom in China. Shanghai is the most populous city in China.

The statement assumes that US$ were used to fund the construction, and fails to consider there is more to the world
than America

The statement is without factual basis and represents tunnel vision

Took them two-and-a-half years to finish the intersection at Genesee St. and Cayuga Rd., catty-corner from the Buffalo Niagara International Airport in Cheektowaga. Every time we visited, the union guys were standing around talking, drinking coffee or taking breaks.

The Chinese seem to have solved the union problem. Really solved it.

In the same 20 years, Texas has rolling backouts and hospitals going dark, because if big cold cloud....

In California the glue sniffing governor attends gay pride day, where 50 year old hairy men parade down main street in diapers.....

The building in the lower left hand corner is where all the Presidents of the US have gone to eat dinner when visiting.

I don’t know what it is called, but it must be special because they didn’t tear it down.

In the restaurant you can eat while looking out large windows onto the ships and the river below.

I got to sit in Bill Clinton’s seat at the table, but they loved Bush by far. I was there with a liberal cracking jokes about Bush at the table and none of the Chinese laughed. They thought that it was impolite to joke about even the US President and seemed shocked at the liberal attitude to the President.

One of the ladies at the table whispered they love Bush, he is the greatest President of all time. They said Bush built Shanghai more than anyone else.

I don’t and didn’t agree with Bush’s position on China, he was rolled too many times because he was dealing with 911 and his attention was elsewhere. But to the Chinese that live in Shanghai, there is genuine love for him.

Unlike many here, these pictures do not make me happy..

They do not make me happy, either.

Sad that we have people who support Free Trade with Communist China...and revel at how China has grown...at the expense of the re-distribution of American wealth to Communist China.

Supporters of Communist China are no different than the Walter Duranty-type of people of the 1930’s....who sugar-coated Communism while hiding what was really happening. The Free Trade Communists who support Communist China are just the Walter Duranty’s of our time

Real Americans, and Real Consevatives, do not support any Free Trade with Communist China. It was not too long ago that, if you were so supportive of a Communist nation, you were tried and punished for treason.

My, how we have fallen!

My brother owns a business and lives there for at least seven months out of the year. He says it's like the wild wild west for making money.

Will you guys stop standing around and boo-hooing? Get with it and help make America proud and strong again.

Your American forebears helped one another conquer a wilderness and create strong nation. I can't imagine they'd have much patience with all of the caterwallering that goes on about how far we're behind the Chinese.

I doubt the problems that beset America have much do with Freepers, we are already, after the self-reliant, American values, REAL free market individuals.

What specifically would you suggest we do when half the population is on board with socialism, and expansion of government, and approaching 1/8 of Americans are on food stamps.

What do you want us to do, open a machine shop?

The builders of this economic miracle are capitalists not Communists. All this reminds me (as indicated in #33) of how building better lives is possible. Abroad. A few years ago, remember, the French built the longest in some category bridge in 18 months. Please do yourself a favor and check how long and for how much has the rebuilding of SF Bay Bridge has been going, with no end in sight, how many squabbles, lawsuits, commissions it took, and for all I know, is still taking. Well, how about the WTC site? We’ve become a self-paralyzed giant!

I've been to Shanghai 3 times in the past 4 years. I understood on my last visit that one out of every four heavy duty cranes (used for constructing high rise buildings) in the world was in Shanghai. The tallest building which looks like it has a handle on top wasn't even to the ground breaking stage the first time I was there in early 2007. It is right next to the second tallest building, the Shanghai Hyatt Hotel, which appears just to the left of it. The Hyatt has a spectacular dessert tea every afternoon, which I highly recommend.

Wasn’t it a couple of months ago that a high rise hotel in China was fully built in ONE DAY?

Don’t be blaming wal mart or communism. This is all about discipline, and striving for excellence. Chinese students are cut throat competitive to get into the best universities. American students want to tweet about Justin Bieber.

They strive for superiority. We strive for political correctness and diversity. They want the best. We want equality and therefore, stress mediocrity.

China has the best train system in the world. Did you see how they performed in the opening ceremonies in Beijing? Perfection.

dont’ get me wrong. Not a fan a communism. I just cry at what America has lost in it desire to just be “correct”. Look at how we elected this ridiculous joke of a president.
