Text of a letter sent to Sen. Patrick, Rep. Simpson, Lt. Gov. Dewhurst:
Dear Sen. Patrick,
I understand from press reports that Federal agents have threatened to impose a "No Fly Zone" over Texas, as has been done in the past and present to rogue states such as Iraq, Libya and Bosnia, and this threat is in response to the exercise of the duly constituted legislative powers of the Texas Legislature.
I am of the opinion that this federal threat is contrary to the U.S. Constitution, as per Article 1, section 9 quoted below.
Article. I. - The Legislative Branch Section 9 - Limits on Congress No Preference shall be given by any Regulation of Commerce or Revenue to the Ports of one State over those of another: nor shall Vessels bound to, or from, one State, be obliged to enter, clear, or pay Duties in another.
I am further of the opinion that the regulations or policies imposed by the Secretary of Homeland Security regarding unwarranted searches and seizures of persons boarding aircraft are contrary to the 4th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution.
Accordingly I strongly support your efforts for passage of HB 1937 in defiance of federal threats of a No Fly Zone and air blockade. I further suggest that should the federal authorities make good on their threat, the Texas Railroad Commission should, in the name of safety and security, shut down all interstate pipelines carrying natural gas and refined petroleum products out of Texas.
You have my full support.
Best regards, aka "ThirdMate"
I posted the earlier article that led to our meeting to get people in Texas riled up. Now if they will used that energy to press their state house maybe it will be worth the replies I got. lol
Some state has to say no more to the tyrants, Texas is our best hope!
Thanks again ThirdMate
Snuph
The legislation has been stopped essentially. It will take a special session to pass it now.
The bureaucracy wants to blame Congress for its overreaching. Well why won’t Congress rein in these Keystone Kops.
“Hey Hussein, have you ever heard the saying:
“Don’t Mess With Texas”? “
Sounds great, but I believe it’s just so much hot air now.
COOL!
TIME FOR THE STATES TO GET TOUGH WITH OUR ROGUE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT
The Legislature will likely continue into special session due to the budget and school funding debate.
The bill had unanimously passed the House, and had at least 30 votes in the Senate until the U.S. Attorney’s threat letter began to circulate. Then support dropped, and Sen. Patrick withdrew the bill from a vote.
The debate is far from over, and is at a stage where citizen pressure can still tip the scales.
This is no time to relent.
Thanks Snuph, and Freegards.
The truth is you can mess with texas all you want and they’ll do nothing. That’s the reality on the ground despite all the misplaced bravado ...
Drawing a line in the sand? We don’t even have a border.
Besides if Texas reciprocates with shutting down pipelines, we could actually go back to 25cent a gallon gas. Remember the slogan, Drive 90, freeze a Yankee?
Freeze a Yankee
1979
Music by Bob Arnold
Lyrics by Bob Arnold & Bill Sturgeon
CHORUS
Freeze a Yankee, drive seventy-five and freeze em alive
Freeze a Yankee, let your thermostat rise and give em a surprise
Governor Briscoe promised us that if any [darn] Yankee [raised] a fuss
Wed turn off the gas, cut off the oil and let em all freeze and boil
VERSE 1
Now President Carter was a good ol boy, a Southerner through and through
But when he asked all Americans to sacrifice, he really meant you-know-who
He wants all our oil and our nuclear fuels
Now what does he take us for, silly fools?
The president wants us to pass our gas, now aint that a kick in the . . .
CHORUS
VERSE 2
They dont want an oil rig around their seashore, Lord its a terrible sight
And dont you try to drill in their dirty, old water, if you do youre in for a fight
Senator Kennedy told me himself
That he wouldnt let us drill on the Continental Shelf
So when they try to get Texans to drill another well, we can tell em all to go to . . .
Hyannis Port
VERSE 3
Cram them Yankees into little bitty cars while we drive around in limousines
There aint nothin in the world any more fun then pumpin gas in them big mo-chines
Us Texans love our Cadillacs, big Continentals and Pontiacs
Were gonna keep all the oil that we can make, and let them Yankees shiver and shake
VERSE 4
Them Yankees say they need our oil and they gotta have gasoline
But dont you put no refineries way up north, they wanna keep their air real clean
They only got enough lignite to last till midnight
Not enough fuel to keep their beer real cool
But well send you lots of oil, now dont you fear
If you promise not to move down here!
CHORUS TAG
Freeze a Yankee, Alleluia
Keep your Confederate credit cards, the Souths gonna rise again!
Ummm.... Kind of hard to argue with that.
Funny how utterly fast the senator and his buddies caved on this when they got this letter...
So what they are saying is you can use big words to scare the beejeezus out of a few Texas legislators and they’ll pull a piece of legislation that would put the Feds in their place...
Hmmmmmmm, a tactic worth remembering...
All I can say is that the feckless nature of the majority party in Texas is once again demostrating their inability to stand firm and be committed to serving this state and their constituencies....
Hmmmmmm, I hope the people in Texas Senatorial District 7 are paying attention...
Or if not waiting to hear their feckless leader when he gets on his radio show...
I am of the opinion he should have stayed on TV as a sportscaster...
Especially after his bill that passed his clubhouse that gave state elected officials the protection to carry a firearm, pretty much anywhere they want to...And those of us who are not state elected officials can still be restricted by the provisions in the Texas CHL law...
Thanks Dan, you be a bucket full of peaches.../sarc
Ex-wife had a copy of this on 45RPM. Funniest thing I had heard for years.
Dewhust (sp) killed the bill not patrick.
Many thanks. I hope TX stands up to this tyranny. I live in Oklahoma now, and I’m sure a lot of Oklahomans stand with you. I know I do.
