Rasmussen : Perry 44% Obama 41%; Pres Leads Other GOP by single digits.
Rasmussen Reports ^ | rasmussen

For the first time this year, Texas Governor Rick Perry leads President Obama in a national Election 2012 survey. Other Republican candidates trail the president by single digits.

A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey shows Perry picking up 44% of the vote while the president earns support from 41%. Given the margin of sampling error (+/- 3 percentage points) and the fact that the election is more than a year away, the race between the two men is effectively a toss-up. Just over a week ago, the president held a three-point advantage over Perry. (To see question wording, click here.)

Perry leads by nine among men but trails by five among women. Among voters under 30, the president leads while Perry has the edge among those over 30. The president leads Perry by 16 percentage points among union members while Perry leads among those who do not belong to a union.

Former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney currently trails the president by four percentage points, 43% to 39%. That’s a slight improvement for the Republican compared to a week ago. Earlier in the year, Romney held a one-point edge when matched against the president. Prior to today’s release, that was the only time a named Republican has held any kind of lead over President Obama. A Generic Republican currently leads the president 48% to 40%.

If Congresswoman Michele Bachmann is the GOP candidate, the president leads 46% to 38%. Unlike Perry and Romney, Bachmann’s numbers are a bit weaker now than they were a week ago.

Finally, if the Republicans were to nominate businessman Herman Cain, President Obama would attract 42% of the vote to Cain’s 35%.

IF we’d be in some what normal economy and job environment...you’d be right, a Texan wouldn’t have a chance. Americans at this point bottom line are jobs and the economy...who has that record...Perry. So the Texan part will not be an issue.

Obama’s worse than than that, he opposed the Born Alive Infant Protection Act. That alone should have given voters a clue as to the kind of person that he is, but the media buried it.

It was on Gateway pundit and I think it was posted on FR earlier this morning. I didn’t hear about a raid but this was a radio interview. If you can, link me to the raid story.

>> What makes you so confident that we’ll put another Texan in the White House so soon after Bush?

When the choice is between “another Texan” or “same old failed Kenyan”, it’s a no brainer.

Anyway, Texas this time around isn’t just “that cowboys ‘n oil wells state” — it’s an economic MODEL. The US is ready for a workable model.

Focusing on Obama wasn’t Mitt’s mistake. Being Mitt was Mitt’s mistake.

Perry should do just that. Focus on Obama and try as much as possible to introduce himself as the best alternative to Obama.

Bachmann, Cain, and Santorum should be gone by SC at the latest. Newt will probably stick around until his Platinum Visa card starts coming back denied.

Don’t know how I missed the raid by the Eco bastards. I just searched it. That’s bad news and now it is making some sense.

I’m confident. Barring some kind of melt-down, Perry is going to win the nomination and the election.

And Palin is going to help him do it.

I think women went for 0zer0 in 08 by 56%.

That was the Oprah and The View factor. They infiltrate the minds of women who can't think for themselves.

Yup go after Obama and ignore Mitt, no one wants to see the party infighting, they will pay attention as to who can annihilate Obama on a day to day basis.

When he was a child he was actually very poor. Tenant farmers in the middle of nowhere Texas. NOTHING like Bush's pampered beginnings.

When you get a chance, read up on his background - it's the quintessential (and quit inpsiring) American story of the poor kid who made good.

Perry's story as told by him to the Texas Monthly

The son of tenant farmers from Paint Creek…

…who became an Airforce officer, married his high school sweetheart and went on to become the longest serving governor in Texas history

Interesting that Cain is polling better than Bachmann.
I would love to see a Perry/Cain ticket, with Palin later appointed Secretary of Energy or the Interior. Interior is actually where all the oil and gas decisions are made, no?

Bachmann should return to what she does best: the House.

“Jobs”

For illegals perhaps when Perry pushes through amnesty.

Finally, if the Republicans were to nominate businessman Herman Cain, President Obama would attract 42% of the vote to Cain’s 35%

Cain's numbers will improve as folks get to know him. He's still an unknown to the majority of folks. In fact whenever I tell anyone that I support Herman Cain they always ask 'Who???'.

At any rate I'm thrilled to see Perry doing as well as he is doing. I would love to see Cain and Perry share a ticket.

It sounds like what you noted about relocating is tied to the raid on Gibson (about a week ago) which was about using wood from Madagascar which wasn’t totally processed using Madagascar labor. So the raid wasn’t even about US law but rather a foreign statute.

THey had raided Gibson I believe last year as well and had seized about $500,000 worth raw material which the feds are still holding. It’s my understanding that in neither case had Gibson broken any laws.

Here is a link on the raid issue:
